Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Saudi ArabiaI liked the gesture from the staff when they upgraded our room to one butter after we found a spot on the floor looked like puke. The only thing that was needed to improve that there are no A/C and could be hot during the day. However everything else was nice.

United KingdomLike the overall quality but it is very misleading with the ‘spa’ feature. In countries like France, Italy, and even Switzerland if we book a ‘spa’ hotel, spa (sauna, pool, steam rooms, etc.) is all included and no time limit. This hotel charges extra and pool is closed for winter..

United KingdomThere were two experiences that tarnished my most recent (March 2025) visit. The rooms are described as being equipped with “Nespresso Machine & Teas”. What it doesn’t say is that four Nespresso capsules are provided and if you want more you have to buy them at a euro each. I have no objection to that if you are staying for one night. But I had booked for nine nights and was told the same rule still applied so that once I had used my allowance of four I had to buy more. This seemed unduly parsimonious, especially given that my towels and even my bath robes were replaced regularly. Providing at least one capsule per person per day would seem fairer. I was also disappointed by the variable quality of the restaurant service in the evenings. The hotel’s website describes the restaurant in glowing terms and its prices are certainly as high as some of the better local restaurants at Les Praz such as Le Castel and Cabane. The first time I ate there, I had the tuna tartare (15€) and the trout fillet (29€) and they were both good. However on my second visit I had the French onion soup (12€) and the lamb rack (35€) and I can only describe both of them as shameful. The soup consisted more of lumps of mushy bread than of soup. And the “lamb rack” (35€) consisted of two soggy lamb cutlets consisting of a lot more fat than lean meat swimming in an uninteresting pool of sweet potato purée. I complained about the lamb rack and was given a free cheese course but really, any chef should have been ashamed of serving it. I really hope the kitchen was having an “off night” or the normal chef was absent. In summary I shall certainly return to the Excelsior but I shall in future go out for dinner to one of the excellent local restaurants at Les Praz rather than risking dining in the hotel.
I like this hotel very much so it is a shame that on my latest visit there were a few things that I found disappointing (see below). It sits on its own in Les Tines, at least an hour’s walk from the centre of Chamonix, but it is very conveniently placed both for the local bus service and the train station. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. There is a pleasant bar and good spa and in the summer the large outdoor swimming pool is a real asset. The ski room is well fitted out and spacious, with individual locked cabinets with plenty of space for skis, poles and boots; and in winter there is a ski concession on the hotel premises available for ski and boot hire, The wifi is excellent. Breakfast is adequate without being outstanding. Perhaps most important, the people are unfailingly pleasant and helpful. The overall four-star rating is perhaps slightly flattering but thee days the four-star rating is a very flexible one and the hotel is not alone in this respect.

United StatesThe location is not ideal -- getting into town required a bus or tram ride. The busses get very crowded, and run off-schedule, while the trans are very reliable but run infrequently.
Rooms were nice, with all the required conveniences. Rooms were clean, and had nice views of the mountains.

United KingdomRelatively pricy but it was peak hiking season
The swimming pool was decent and the surrounding scenery felt like you were in a secluded part in the mountains, spectacular views and quiet, certainly more relaxing than in Chamoinix itself. Bit of a pain to get into town though.

NetherlandsBreakfast is a bit disappointing, with not a lot of options. Room service could benefit from an improvement, given one day they forgot to clean our room, another day we needed to ask for towels and yet another for coffee.

Costa RicaNobody told us about the transportation cards for the first two days until we asked, there was no fan or AC and we had a room with no view, only to the wall of the building in front of us. Those are small things

IrelandThe only thing I personally would like is if the hotel had some bikes onsite to borrow. There is a bus stop a few mins walk but I would personally preferred to have the option to use a bike to get in and out of chamonix. The buses were a little unreliable I found and often very very full
