Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomOnly negative issue, the bed creaked.
Situated town centre, so obviously there was car noise. Restaurants easily accessible. Lovely breakfast served in a very elegant, historic room. Elegant crockery too. Old property full of character and charm. The owner obviously artistic with interesting furnishings and art work. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

BelgiumNothing wrong at all.
Everything! I can only confirm what most other reviews have said. This is exactly what a great chambre-d'hote should be like. Not jet-set luxury, but homey, clean, tastefully decorated and furnished, and attention to detail that I've rarely seen in any other accommodation. Add to that a friendly and interesting host, good breakfast, and central location, and it made the visit to Semur-en-Auxois worth the trip just for the accommodation itself.

United KingdomThere didn't seem to be a lock on my bedroom door. This wasn't a problem for my stay, since I was the only one there and was only staying the one night, with minimal belongings. There's no shower curtain, so you can't stand up for a shower. This could easily be improved.
A cross between an hotel and a B&B, run by the owner who was very friendly and not intrusive at all. Between us, we had enough English and French for her to explain that I was the only one staying there, I had use of the lounge area and a set of keys to come and go as I pleased. I was lucky to be able to park right outside (other street parking and car parks are available in the vicinity) and the hotel was just around the corner from the town centre and a number of restaurants. The included Continental breakfast was filling and tasty.

United Stateswould have liked to have had a stand up shower
The location was perfect for walking around the charming town; the owner was very welcoming and made an excellent suggestion for where to have dinner. The property is a large private home ; the owner makes available a bedroom and adjoining bathroom. Everything is correct but a little spartan. The bathroom has a bathtub but no stand-up shower.

United StatesGreat place! Very cool artistic vibe. Great location within a very short walk of the old town center in Semur-en-Auxois. Great breakfast every morning with coffee, crossaints, baguette, etc. Bathtub had adjustable showerhead, but no stand/holder to hold it up high, so it was challenging to take a shower.

CanadaCyclists be aware: Semur-en-Auxois is at the top of a very steep hill, something we did not anticipate when we planned our cycling holiday. A great town and a great chambre d'hôtel, but you need to be fit to get there.
Great welcome by our hostess. Great location a half block from the main eating and strolling street. The room was large, the bathroom has an actual bathtub, a welcome rarity. We were the only guests and shared the common areas with our hostess. We were on bikes and there is a gated compound for undercover bike storage. Breakfast was standard French continental, and was served at her dining room table -- fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, bread, and homemade confitures. We had a seating lounge just outside our room on the first floor. We were the only guests, and we think that there may always be only one room rented. Very quiet.

United KingdomThe mattress was a bit soft to my liking
Small, unpretentious bed-and-breakfast in the classic sense of the word: you get to stay at the owner's big house and enjoy a home-made breakfast in their dining room. Our room and bathroom were absolutely private being the only ones on our floor (and I think the only guests on our night, too). Both were spacious, bright and spotless. The host was responsive and informative. Breakfast was very good quality with our choice of drink, yogurt, croissants, bread and spreads.
