Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Hostel was quite far from centre of Biarritz. It was quite expensive for what you got - a very cramped room with triple bunk beds, might be the norm for this area though. Facilities basic and no staff on site to explain anything.
OK for a one night stay.

I was the last to arrive, so no idea if there was a fan or window because it was dark. What i experienced was there was no air circulating in the room. It got very warm, but worse, someone was sick and was coughing and open mouthed breathing all night. You are sealed into a small room with people stacked three high and no flowing air. You really take your chances. I was at the start of a big trip, and tried to sleep with a mask on most of that night - not very comfortable.
The bathroom was clean. The living and kitchen areas were fine. In theory, the bed area was fine, with nice curtains for privacy.

The lower bunk bed is the equivalent of sleeping in a coffin, got no sleep whatsoever, very cramped....

Bathrooms were dirty and stinky, the person working there used the bathroom for nearly 1 hour in the morning herself and left the sink dirty and filled with her hair… Beds were uncomfortable and made sounds and movements every time when somebody was moving)…

Beautiful lounge area. Well equipped kitchen. I liked the concept, that the things left behind by other guests including food are then displayed for new guests to take instead of throwing the things away. For some people it might be a bit far from the beach and the stores, but I personally didn't really mind.

There is one windowless room crammed full with triple bunk beds. It STINKS to high heaven and is unbearably hot as there is no possibility to circulate air. Genuinely puzzled how that is legal to operate.
They were able to reserve a bottom bunk bed for me (disabled), which was lovely. No staff on site so you have to be self reliant. Sofa corner and showers were good.

Distance from center; challenge to find at first(small sign by the entrance)
Clean, away from everything but a bus or 20-30 minute walk to center and other locations; super consideration of other guests maintaining silence inside the dorm; great kitchen, bathroom, living room with simple and beautiful decor.

It’s a very social hostel as it only has one room where everyone sleeps in. You get to know the others very quickly and I made some great memories there.

The dorm room stunk of feet as everyone had their shoes inside, being quite hot also probably didn’t help but couldn’t get out of there quick enough

It was not clean even though there was someone cleaning everyday. The workers were not nice at all. The atmosphere was very arrogant and snob which I was not expecting at all from an hostel. You have to pay for EVERYTHING 5€ more. So in the end the hostel next door for 4€ more it’s cheaper! You don’t get breakfast nor a towel at Utopy. There is no surfboards available and no bikes either (which there are at the one next door). But what disappointments me the most is the bad vibe at the hostel. I would not recommend this accommodation for solo travelers at all.

No security at all anyone can walk in off the street. Beds were very uncomfortable and it was expensive for a 15 bed dorm.
