Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyI had only stayed for a few hours while waiting for an early flight. It was quite nice and comfortable with a lot of privacy for a hostel. The pods were well lit and roomy, with the USB port being quite handy

United KingdomNot really a negative, just that there was limited availability for female only dorms, although that’s just because it’s so popular.
It was in a central location. Very clean and the staff were very friendly

United KingdomI don't have anything I didn't like.
I had an amazing stay here. There was a free walking tour which I took part of, and it was really awesome having Sarah show us round the town and tell us stories about it. It was also my birthday and I got a celebration doughnut courtesy of the CoDE team, it was really thoughtful of them. Pods are so private and comfy. Bathroom and toilet was clean. I love the proximity of the hostel to Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle and Palace of Holyroodhouse.

GermanyThe bunk beds on the lower level don't have much air circulating, but the hostel provides fans, and one can simply open the curtain a tiny bit to get some of the AC air coming in. So not big bother after all...
Great hostel, super quiet, amazing staff, clean facilities and very good breakfast. The location is amazing, I will definitely go back or advise anyone I know to go there.

The location was amazing, could not have been better. The bed was very comfortable and the little curtain across the bed was very good and blocked out light. The rooms were clean and so were the bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and accommodate my wish to have a bottom bunk . There was alot of activities organised by the staff. I chose not to participate but the option was there, which was nice

CanadaA/C wasn't turned on at night despite it being quite hot out. Towels cost 3 pounds to rent, and staff wouldn't let us swap out for a newer towel after a few days unless we paid again.
Love the pod concept for added privacy, bathrooms were always clean and empty, staff was great. We had a noisy roommate and staff talked to them. Location is amazing.

United KingdomThere could be more toilets, as there were only three toilets in the LG female bathroom and one was out of order the entirety of our stay, so only two available without going to another floor. There weren’t clear signs in the kitchen regarding washing up responsibilities so some pans etc were just left in the sink by guests which made it unpleasant for others to use. Some staff could better explain information (eg. Directions to the luggage room on arrival) to help guests.
The hostel is really well located, just off the Royal Mile by St Giles Cathedral it is ideal to use as a base for exploring Edinburgh, and is an easy walk to the train and bus stations if you want to explore further afield. The rooms are clearly named and the code system works well instead of worrying about keys etc for access. The pods are comfy and spacious, with a shelf, hook, rail and 2 USB plugs in each. They also have two light options with switches in the pods. The bedding was clean and everything was comfy. They are numbered and these also correspond to the lockers in the rooms which are easy to use and allow you to set your own code. The lockers can fit a small-medium suitcase and also have a hook inside. There was also a row of numbered hooks for coats inside the room which was a good feature. The room has a large mirror with USB and three point plugs beneath for chargers and also hairdryers etc. The lighting in the room is great with an overhead option, low blue light for the evenings/mornings, and individual pod lights. The pod curtains blocked light well. The hostel kitchen is clearly labelled and had plenty of seating, with additional seating available in the reception area. Staff overall were friendly and helpful, and desk is staffed 24/7 so someone is always on hand if you need them. There is also a WhatsApp number provided in the pods to text if you need assistance/to report issues and the hostel wifi was pretty good.

FinlandOn arrival i found a scented oil in the room, a freshener. Being very allergic to chemicals and artificial scents this was a big inconvenience, that i was not prepared for. I've never come across these in any hotels/hostels i've stayed in. Unfortunately this triggered a migraine and an asthma attack. After removing the scent from the room everything was ok, and all went well from then on.
Super nice staff, very clean and excellent location. Stayed in a private room with a private bathroom. The room was small but had everything we needed.

Hong KongStayed at 8 pod one after I had three days tour to highland. It is better than the 14 pod one as relatively more space in the room. The ladder is wider than that of 14 pod too. Besides designated lockers, there is space for putting your shoes in. The location is really convenient that I can put down the things after shopping and go out again. Although the room is right next to laundry room, no sound is heard inside the room.

United KingdomBreakfast food a bit bland for the price paid. One of the loos wasn’t working in the communal bathroom (of total of 3 available), not ideal for such a busy hostel. If you have any physical issue which might affect you being able to climb into a top pod, I would definitely request a bottom pod - I don’t, but I’m not exactly fit and the ladder system tested me and was a struggle to get up and down. The door to the room impossible to close quietly so the people in the pods next to the door might be bothered by this. However, balanced against the positives, I still really enjoyed everything else about my stay here.
Hands down best hostel I have ever stayed in. The building use to be an old jail and they have done a amazing job of converting the space to a hostel. Very clean and great value for money considering the Royal Mile is a few steps away. Facilities provided were everything you need - lockers in the room, additional luggage storage available, plenty of charging points, great staff on the reception (24 hours). Shared bathrooms were great, this place has better shower heads and pressure than some of the ‘fancier’ hotels I have stayed in! I spent 3 nights here and would definitely stay here again.

FranceThe dorm doors are so heavy (being an old prison), but whenever someone goes out it’s very loud. Better with earplugs!
The location is perfect and I really like the concept of the pods. A bit of privacy is a must and it had usb port, a towel rail and nice lighting :) The bed was very comfortable. Loved the fluffy duvet. The bathrooms were fairly clean and there was plenty of hot water. The breakfast had good options. I wish I tried the waffles!
