Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt's always a pleasure to go back! Bernie and Leslie are some amazing hosts, the breakfast they serve in the morning is exceptional, and the location is all you need. Conveniently located 2 minutes by walk from the beach and the Esplanade (there are plenty of cafes and little restaurants) and 10 minutes by walk to the old city and couple of big supermarkets (including Lidl). The bar across the road (Charlie) offers you a drink in the evening and walking back toward the city there is a pizza place, a Chinese restaurant and a chip shop - all of them amazing. Highly recommended!

United KingdomOur stay was too short, we should've booked a longer stay! Next time?!
We had a very warm welcome by the hosts Bernie and Lesley and were offered an upgrade of a family room with a sea view. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing, with a superb breakfast each morning and our room serviced every day, with nothing overlooked, even the dog bed was tidied! There was a varied choice for breakfast, with dietary requirements and preferences catered for. Shanklin was a very pleasant town, with a clean and tidy esplanade along the beach and a very quaint old part of the town with many thatch roofed properties. The island had so many attractions it was hard to choose where to go and it was easy to travel around out of the busy season, so we could cover many places but we need to return to see more! Many thanks to the helpful, kind and friendly hosts and the conscientious Chambermaid.

United KingdomWould of been good if you could order for in, as you can with quite a few hotels now. Also a seating area in the front gardens would of been great to just sit and chill with a drink watching the world go by.
The location was perfect for what we wanted. Great little walks along the seafront only a stones throw away. Breakfast was really good and liked how it was served as in all tables were waited on. Staff really friendly and helpful.

United KingdomThe shower was pretty poor, re the pressure and outflow. Having used a similar shower, in another b&b we use, it was disappointing. However, apparently it was to do with a lever on the shower head? The shower basin leaked around one area of the shower screen. Could have had more sockets, as opposed to extension leads. Again, even in some hotels, this can be an issue
The accommodation was pretty good. The breakfasts were excellent and hot! Well, where hot was required! It was good to have large bath towels. So often, in both b&bs and hotels, these as scrimped on. Barely get your 'bits' covered! Slight issue with the shower and a tap, in our room. Mentioned it to Bernie and he was going to fix it that day.

A great place to stay. Especially location wise , we were lucky enough to get the room with a sea view. The shanklin beach is hardly 2 mins away by walk. The morning English breakfast was nice, filing enough till the lunch. Overall a cute , lovely place to spend few nights away from the hustle and bustle of city. Highly recommended.

United KingdomOur room didn't have a Wi-Fi (wasn't a big issue for us but may be would be good if it was specified beforehand). The bathroom didn't have a shower either and the hand shower that was provided was bit clunky. Also due to old structure probably, the noises from other rooms were easily audible but just mentioning it for awareness of others, as not sure management can do much there.
Excellent location with amazing sea view from the window of our room. Easily walkable from Shanklin railway station or nearest bus stops. Leslie and Bennie were great hosts and even allowed us to stay till afternoon on the day of the checkout as that room was not booked for the night. Breakfast was adequate and rooms were very clean.

United KingdomMy room wasn’t dark at night, which made sleeping very difficult. Bed frame needs fixing, so does one of the night lamps. But I think, these are easy fixes, so they can be sorted quickly.
Great location. Nice view. Breakfast was nice and so were the hosts. I had a lovely spacious room, all for myself which was lovely!

United KingdomWiFi only in some areas - needs revamping - updating. Perhaps an option for self service for things like tea, coffee , cereal and toast for breakfast which could make it easier on the host.
