I had absolutely no internet, there was a notice on the wall in my room about logging in into the internet, that didn't work. There was a notice on the wall in the bar, that didn't work either. The TV in my room only had channels 1 and 2, the other channels either didn't work or had lines across the screen, these channels were not watchable. These issues really impacted on my stay.

The staff were amazing and couldnt do enough for me. The food in the restaurant was top notch.

I wasn’t informed when booking that they close on a Monday, so no meal available Monday evening, which I was told about at breakfast that morning, so had to source a meal elsewhere and as a solo woman I felt vulnerable there on my own as no way of contacting owners in an emergency. As they are not there on a Monday my room was not serviced so didn’t have enough milk and tea bags for Tuesday morning until breakfast at 8am.

We were sleeping 2 hours after we checked in and heard someone unlocking our door and opened it. Saw we were asleep and relocked the door and ran down the stairs. Couldn’t find any staff to raise concern. Felt paranoid over the stay about our belongings being inside the rooms. When we were checking out staff didn’t come down for our departure and when trying to raise our concern over the phone they ignored us and said “have a nice day” Walls were very thin. We heard a lot of walking around. Being on a roundabout too you hear a bit of traffic.

Facilities were good. Property was clean.

Room much too hot in warm weather-no aircon or even a fan provided plus room located over kitchen area and extractor fan very noisy. Nowhere comfortable to sit in the room and only downstairs bar available which was locked during the day. Wifi poor in the room. Room not cleaned between day 1 and 2. Breakfast £10+ very poor value-no soft fruit, muesli, yoghurt offered and no choice of breads.

Unfortunately did not end up staying, as when we arrived the shower ceiling in our room had collapsed, staff could not be more apologetic and refunded us immediately.

This is my first visit to this part of the country. The Lion&Fiddle is located in a small village with no nearby cafes for morning breakfast. As chef was not available in the L&F, there was no breakfast option. I did not expect to have to travel to a convenient store for sandwiches. I expected to have a breakfast meal for my business trip.

What went wrong was that I was woken up both mornings at 6.15pm by noises like a boiler going on and off upstairs where the staff were or downstairs from the kitchen. This noise went off after about half a minute but kept recurring every few minutes making sleep impossible. It really is beyond credulity that people can be expected to pay for a room where sleep is made impossible and one would have expected, given the effort put into making the room so otherwise perfect, that this would not have been allowed to happen. The most important and really the only reason for staying there or at any hotel or guesthouse is to sleep. If one is prevented from sleeping then everything else becomes totally irrelevant otherwise the whole exercise is pointless.

On the face of it the place was excellent, the breakfast was too but it was not made plain enough at the outset that this is not "bed and breakfast" deal with breakfast as an extra. Also the system of booking ones breakfast the night before conflates with the fact that one might feel different about whether one wants to have breakfast or not in the morning. With the room perfect what could possibly go wrong?

very friendly staff, nothings to much trouble. very clean room beds comfortable. food is wow out of this world will travel from South Wales to have it again. all in all a brilliant stay will definitely be returning soon.
