Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

No meals in the evening. I had to go to a local pub/restaurant for dinner. This isn't apparent on Booking.com
Friendly welcome. Room was beautiful. Bed was really comfy. Breakfast was excellent.

It's on the flight path to the airport, so you do get the occassional plane noise.
Easy and friendly check in. Room clean with drink making facilities and a hair dryer. Bathroom small but with everything you need. Good cooked breakfast and very good coffee. Would happily revisit.

Would have liked a few healthier options for breakfast.
Very handy for where we wanted to be. Staff were lovely and really helpful when we were running late for check in.

Only one thing. Only a curtain separated the bedroom from the toilet area- a door would be better in our opinion for obvious reasons. this did not detract from our stay but it has to be mentioned

Very homely family run hotel yet extremely professionally run. an ideal venue for weddings etc or just a county break.
A most beautiful hotel, set in the gorgeous Darbyshire countryside. Only a five minute drive out if the picturesque village of Melbourne (UK not Aus :)).

The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful, especially the waitress who served us breakfast. It was a short distance by car to the cafes and shops in Melbourne. I would be happy to recommend The Melbourne View Hotel.

Would like breakfast to be served from 7am instead of 8am. I & 3 other guests had to leave before 8am & therefore missed breakfast. Would like biscuits with the tea & coffee making facilities but cannot really complain at £60 per night.
Excellent value. Good location. Clean & comfortable. Good parking facilities.

Although we knew the location was close to the airport, the planes flying over do spoil an otherwise lovely relaxing environment and stay.
Lovely staff, helpful leading up to, and during, our stay. Breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh which is a very nice touch.

There wasn’t really anything we didn’t like but maybe a Fruit option at breakfast would’ve been nice.
We received a very warm welcome and we were well looked after. The hotel is good value for money. The full English breakfast was excellent and we were continually asked if we wanted more tea or toast. Excellent views.

It was very welcoming, warm and comfortable. The beds were lovely and the room was very fresh and clean. The breakfast was beautiful and we were looked after by a lovely lady. ( sorry I didn’t take her name)

They could offer how you would like eggs cooked. I also would have liked fruit to be available and also water rather than juice however sure they would have brought this. The toilet seat did not stand up. Breakfast could have been offered later as last time 9am
Breakfast lovely and clearly made when ordered rather than just being warmed up. The bed was comfy and it was very clean. The waitress was very polite

Although it was a peaceful location, occasional planes flying overhead were extremely loud.

Lovely large room and super comfy bed! So close to Donington Park and very clean. Breakfast was included in our room rate but we didn’t have a chance to enjoy due to busy work schedule.
