We had a lovely comfortable stay at Moonrakers, a beautiful house.

I had to chase for information how to collect the keys when arriving after 6pm - the phone number provided for the office rang and I was on hold for over half an hour before giving up. I asked for a call back that didn’t happen, tried again 2 hours later - again on hold for nearly half an hour, then asked for call back. The call back did come an hour or 2 later in the end, and I was then sent the details to pick up keys from a lock box. I don’t know why this had to be made so stressful and time consuming? It would be nice to have tea (not de-caf) and regular coffee available when you arrive.

The location is very central in Dartmouth, yet the house has a sizeable secure garden and fantastic terrace and balcony with views over the dart estuary

Despite all of our observations and most of these are very easily fixed we had a great stay at Moonrakers.

These are our observations. The signage to the house is poor and we had to guess which garage was ours to use. The house has been painted blue so is not the same colour as advertised on the booking sites The garden is lovely but if it was tidied up and loved it would be amazing. Some of the garden furniture is looking tired. The garden door needs some attention as it does not lock properly and could be a safety issue for young children and dogs escaping. The toilet in the downstairs toilet was not working when we got there and despite reporting it immediately on arrival it was not fixed during our stay. Fortunately we managed to fix it temporarily and did need to use it during our stay. We went into the local office and they said they didn’t want to disturb during our stay and it would be fixed after we had left. There was not enough toilet rolls and hand wash for all of the bathrooms. There were no hand towels in any of the bathrooms. We were not informed about the draw front not being on one of the cupboards. Not a problem for us but it could have been if there were small children in the house. We had to play hunt the washing machine and found it in a cupboard in the en-suite. The bins were full of rubbish so we could not follow the house instructions of putting the rubbish in the bins the night before. After talking to the office we were informed to leave it in the house. If there was a recycling bin it would definitely reduce the rubbish overload.

The view from the house is amazing. There is everything you need in the house for your stay. Cosy house and has a family feel about it.

I would mention that to get to it it’s quite a big climb, wasn’t an issue for us, but could be for people with prams or bigger luggage.

Lovely large property, very nicely designed, central and close to everything.

comfortable but the plumbing and the garden need attention

The bathroom plumbing is not very efficient: the toilet in the separate bathroom needs serious attention to the flush system and the shower mechanism is not functioning properly in either of the bathrooms, in that the hand shower units cannot be used without the rainfall shower making it impossible to shower without getting wet hair. There is a faulty light in the bedroom with the ensuite shower: the light over the bed seems to have a faulty connection and needs attention as it can be a health and safety issue. The patio needs cleaning up as it's full of weeds and overgrown plants and the furniture on the patio is very tired. The rest of the garden was fairly well kept but the footpaths need to be cleared of overhanging and overgrowing plants which were obscuring the handrails in places. The latch on the gate to the garden is broken (as other visitors have mentioned) and when we arrived the gate was open. We found dog mess in the garden which could have been from a stray animal getting into the garden through this access. We tried to mend the gate latch but with no success so this needs attention as well.

Location is very good for the views which benefit from the good room and space layout with the kitchen/dining/lounge areas being on the upper floor
