the Hotel is very welcoming the staff carnt do enough for you . We had a Seaview room which was beautiful furnished We had breakfast and evening meal at the Hotel which was amazing we will definitely book again .

Water from wash hand basin came back up in shower. Clicking noises all night long no idea of the cause. Other rooms very noisy. sound proof plasterboards should have been used in renovation. Rusty handrails.

Super location with sweeping lawns overlooking the estuary. Lovely views from the lounge and dining area. Very spacious feel throughout. Excellent lounge area. Oodles of parking (marvellous and rare these days). Very good food with excellent (if a little formal) service. Lots of outdoor tables. Lots of very nice watercolours on all walls, of the sea and boats etc. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

Being picky our room was a little small although comfortable - next time we will choose a larger one with sea views.

Super hotel with attractive views overlooking estuary. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff were particularly warm and friendly. Ideal for a short break. Instow is convenient for Bideford, Westward Ho and Saunton Sands - all worth a visit. Nice little ferry trip to Appledore at high tide was worth doing and there are some nice local pubs within a short walk.

Couldn't find fault.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the manager and staff. We had bikes with us which the manager personally stored for us and readied for our use each morning of our stay. I would say the staff went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

The meals were very good and the dining room has excellent views. Cleanliness throughout was exceptional and the staff friendly and efficient. Would very happily stay there again.

The breakfast was disappointing! The full English was greasy and the muffin hollandaise had too much sauce, wet spinach and wasn't seasoned. Such a shame as the dining room and view from it is fab.

A superb hotel in a great location, it looks like its straight from the French riviera! The staff were very welcoming along with a complimentary cup of tea on arrival. The rooms are as you would expect from a hotel but very clean and comfortable. We had a room at the back so no view but the rooms at the front would be worth having if you were staying for longer than a couple of nights.

Bland interiors, little activity, the bar isn't inviting, restaurant could be great but has a lovely outlook, but is functional.

The location of The Commodore has always been excellent but the hotel has lost its mojo.

Our room service was not as we expected i.e. on our second morning our tea/coffee/milk was not replenished - no clean towels for the day - bed was not made - little things that mean a lot.

Bed rather small. Breakfast hot order limited. Ordered avocado and thought it would be fresh but it was a supermarket guacamole on half a muffin!

The Reception staff abrupt and quite rude, no good morning or how can I help or even a smile might have helped. They could have done with a few lessons in how to talk to guests. Breakfast the only hotel I've been to who don't offer fruit just a small glass of yogurt with berries on the bottom, other than that breakfast were good. The hotel seems to have a lot of guest over the age of 70 who come back year after year, so they get priority over others almost like an old people's home. There is no atmosphere in the hotel. If you want an evening meal you have to book and you have to pay £40 a head even if you only want 1 course or 3 courses, never heard of it before. I could go on.... but I think the Commodore has no competition in Instow being the only hotel a shame because it's in a lovely position.

The actual position of hotel right on the sea front and being able to park our car in carpark without any fuss or payment.
