Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe bed was very small for a double and the mattress very uncomfortable. The evening meal was rather pricey and the quality not as would have been expected for the price.
The staff were first class in every respect. They were extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere within the pub was great, warm and friendly with a good buzz. The breakfast was great too.

United KingdomUnfortunately during the night we kept getting woken up by the pipes making awful noises, it was really quite loud. The room was hot. Don't these point put you off, we still had a lovely time at the Devonshire but we had to mention it.
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary with the kids, the room was lovely. the staff were brilliant, it was really clean and pleasant. Unfortunately our daughter wasn't very well when we arrived so we spent Most of our stay in the room, but the staff cared for us really well and even made her some toast in the afternoon (during a busy lunch service). we are really grateful, nothing was too much trouble. The staff gave us a bottle of Prosecco and some beer as a welcome gift because they knew we were celebrating, it was a really lovely touch! Thank you!!!! The Devonshire is in a great location. The food was amazing too.

United KingdomOn arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room (room 4) by Amy, which set the tone, as all the staff we subsequently met were polite, helpful and very friendly. The room was a small double, as advertised, (all that was available as we booked at short notice), so I now have a few bruises from catching the corner of the bed walking round to my side. However, it was adequate with the space used well and contained everything we needed. The room was well decorated and spotless, and the drinks tray contained tea and coffee, with bone china cups and saucers and a cafetiere. Two bottles of local beer were a lovely addition, which may have been because it was New Year's Eve. The bathroom was clean, with a very good, powerful shower over the bath and the towels were soft and fluffy. Breakfast was delicious - my husband had the full English and I had Eggs Royale. The additional self service breakfast buffet was basic but fine, with a choice of cereals, plain yoghurt and a toaster with a basket of brown and white bread, jam and honey. It would have been good to have also had some crumpets and fresh fruit, but that's just a minor niggle. It was a wonderful stay and we will definitely stay again. If we were staying for longer than one night we would need a bigger room as storing luggage would be an issue in the small double. As lovely as the Devonshire Arms is, the very best thing about it is the staff, who are an absolute credit to the business.

United KingdomNot a lot really.
Really great place to stay. Staff were welcoming, room was very comfortable, made even better by the complimentary beers. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. Room was very quiet and bed very comfortable. The Devonshire Arms is a short walk from Chatsworth House and close to Bakewell. I would recommend staying here.

United KingdomThe mattress and pillows were too hard for us. The bed also had a footboard which is a nightmare for my partner at 6’3” and made for an uncomfortable night for him. At least without a footboard he can dangle his feet more comfortably off the end of the bed. In this instance he had to carefully poke them through the bars! A blackout blind on the front facing window would be good too as the current curtain lets in a lot of light.
Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. We didn’t eat dinner here but the breakfast was fab!
