Room 2 is where we stayed. All freshly decorated with nice little extras on arrival like a personalised welcome note, brandy, chocolates all looked on the surface top notch. However the smell of paint did get to us after a while and it's a shame that instead of replacing a well worn mattress it had 2 toppers to try and disguise the fact that in our opinion the mattress was well past it's best which made for a restless night. Added to that was the fact room 2 just felt like it perhaps was used previously for storage. You could hear absolutely everything. The way the main door opened outwards also added to my suspicions that perhaps this wasn't a guest room originally.

Lovely place in terms of the location and quality of interior with a warm and helpful welcome. Had an excellent evening meal here.

Room was freezing. Radiator broken. We were given 2 extra heaters but was a big room & didn’t heat up. Had a meal in bar….tiny portions. Disabled toilet was next to our room & you could smell urine. But unbelievably we had 2 elderly men walk into our room whilst trying to find the toilet!!! Better signage needed but gave us a laugh as we were in bed!!! Very tiny bathroom.

Location of hotel. Room would be lovely in summer as had its own terrace next to river. Room was spacious.

It became clear pretty quickly that the managers take little genuine pride or care in offering hospitality here. One small clue to the general attitude is paint just lazily slapped about in the corridors. Are you really happy to make it this obvious how little you can be bothered? Would you paint your own house like this? A detail, but unfortunately just one of many frayed edges that combine to create an unpleasant atmosphere of a lazy and shortcutting attitude. Do yourself a favour, pay a little more and go somewhere with some respect.

The staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly.

Many areas looking a little tired and threadbare. Bathroom needing a complete update, with mould around the bathtub, and creaky floors need addressing. Four poster bed an unnecessary feature.

The breakfast was appalling. Supplies (like bread) were limited and what was there was not restocked. Coffee machine kept running out of water. Our waiter forgot us, twice! We eventually got what we ordered after nearly an hour. Totally unacceptable service.

Very good location right in the middle of Baslow

Room in dire need of renovation eg ceiling had paint/paper hanging, top of hot water tap missing, loo flush jamming in, one window latch broken, etc. Also situated right above a regularly banging main entrance/exit door. Not at all what we expected for £160 per night.

Hotel positioned conveniently for Chatsworth estate in a beautiful area of the Peak District Breakfast tasty and served with a smile

Nothing major. We both felt a little frowned upon when being checked in as we were in walking gear however we took precautions not to get anything dirty including using shoe covers.

Lovely hotel with lots of added extras and a lovely breakfast the next day. Very comfortable bed and a great location for our needs. The young girl serving breakfast was nice and very helpful. Check out was 11am which was fab after a hard day of walking prior to staying over.

The hotel is best described as tired with chipped paintwork, snagged and scruffy carpeting in the communal area. The room was dark with poor lighting. The wifi wasn't effective and although Netflix was advertised it wasn't available due to network issues. The food was some of the worst I have eaten in a while, at breakfast the scrambled egg was rubbery, and the mushrooms appeared to have been reheated from the previous day. The evening meal was very poor and expensive for what it was. The salmon was overcooked and the noodles resembled chopped soggy onions and the whole dish was flavourless and not what I had imagined it would be. I should have complained at the time but as I was with friends I hadn't seen in over 30 years I didn't want to make a fuss. Sadly I won't be staying here again and I would struggle to recommend it.

The location of the hotel was convenient with it's close proximity to Chatsworth. The staff were the only redeeming feature of our stay as they were friendly, polite and very helpful. My review is not a reflection of the staff as I couldn't fault them over what is a very busy time of year. They always had a smile and appeared to enjoy their job. The bed was comfy and after we turned the heating up it did get warm.

We paid £187.50 for one night and it was terrible! We don’t mind spending that kind of money on a room but this was not even worth half that! The room was small, and the lighting awful! We got ready for an evening at Chatsworth in very little light. The radiator was stuck on high so the room was like a sauna, we tried sleeping with the window open but it was a ground floor room so we couldn’t sleep worrying about security (Room 3) The bed was uncomfortable, pillows were hard and the duvet noisy when we moved. Being a ground floor room we had the kitchen staff door by our room which continually banged shut, and the cleaners cupboard was outside our door so we had to listen to their catch up in the morning. The bathroom needs updating, the shower flooded the floor which had obviously happened before as the door was swollen on the bottom. Breakfast was very average. My advice to the management is maybe spend a night in each of your rooms to see the customers experience, some things are so easily rectified. Previous reviews mentioned most of these things, they should be addressed.

The location and staff were the only good thing about this hotel!

My big issue here was the room itself. The bed was tiny and meant that we slept poorly both night. Not only was it a tiny double but our toes could toucbt je bottom and we aren’t overly tall. All the floorboards creaked so it was impossible to creep to the loo in the middle of the night without everyone hearing. Finally the water pressure in the shower was quite poor. I think the hotel totally know what they are aiming for but haven’t quite got there yet! Redecorating the rooms and buying bigger beds would hugely improve my rating. I really liked the hotel as a whole but wouldn’t stay in that particular room again.

The staff were very friendly and the bar/restaurant area had a nice buzz about it. Pre Christmas it was well decorated and it felt very jolly which was perfect for our mini family getaway. The food was good and the menu was varied enough for 2 nights away. It is great that they have a family room which has a small connecting room that includes bunk beds - this was perfect for our family of four. I really liked the Bramley products and coffee/tea selection was as expected. We were able to park on site. Breakfast was good - our eggs were over poached on the first day but quickly changed for new ones and the staff were accommodating. Coffee from a machine was better than expected but it would be nice offer hot chocolate too.

The hotel was shabby and overpriced. We moved rooms but we’re still disappointed with the standard of accommodation. The first rooms was too hot too noisy and definitely in need of a good clean. The second room was better for noise and heat, but was so small we could hardly get turned around. The staff were helpful and apologised as they had had complaints and had plumbers out about the heating issue, the refurbishment and also the coffee machine at breakfast. The cooked breakfast was ok, but at the price charged I would’ve expected fresh fruit and a decent coffee/tea selection. I wouldn’t stay again.

The location was great for access to Chatsworth House.

Poor breakfast choice bruised fruit & coffee machine difficult to operate & breakfast sourdough toast was not cooked .
