Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomI was hiking the speyside way so had the single attic room. Possibly a personal thing for me as I run quite hot but I found the room far too warm, the temperature only normalised around 10 pm with the window fully open. I did approach the management who were very sympathetic and indicated the room was near the boiler in the eaves.
Really impressed with nearly every aspect of the hotel, very professionally run. Proper coffee and cafetiere in the room was very welcome. Nice evening meal but breakfast was star of the show, stornoway black pudding, best quality haggis etc all cooked to order with fresh, strong coffee... one of the best ever.

United KingdomCoffee at breakfast was very weak. Would have been improved if it was a stronger cafetiere or espresso style.
Breakfast was fantastic. Location was beautiful and whisky selection was excellent.

United KingdomA Luxurious Boutique Gem in the Heart of Speyside Our recent stay at The Dowans Hotel in Aberlour was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm and genuine welcome from Tim, whose hospitality set the tone for a truly wonderful experience. Though we arrived early, we were keen to have lunch before check-in. As we stepped into the beautifully decorated reception area, we were immediately struck by the elegant attention to detail that runs throughout the hotel. Tim guided us to the bar and lounge, where we were presented with an inviting and thoughtfully curated menu. The selection was just right—offering something for every appetite without being overwhelming. We each chose a sandwich, paired with a rich and full-bodied glass of Pinot Gris, which we were delighted to find available by the glass. The wine list was outstanding, clearly reflecting the expertise and care of Lauren and her team. My Cuban sandwich was brilliant, perfectly prepared and packed with flavor. Our room was ready ahead of schedule, allowing us to settle in before heading to the Macallan Estate for a spectacular three-hour tour and nine-course dinner. Beforehand, we took a brisk walk past the local waterfalls, enjoying the stunning natural surroundings. The hotel’s location is ideal, just a short walk from everything in Aberlour, making it a perfect base for exploring Speyside. One of the true highlights of our stay was the whisky room, a beautifully designed space that any whisky enthusiast would appreciate. Lauren, the whisky expert, was an absolute delight—her knowledge, passion, and storytelling made our time there even more special. It was a joy discussing whisky and its heritage with someone so enthusiastic and well-versed in the craft. Our experience at The Dowans Hotel was luxurious, welcoming, and truly memorable. Whether you’re visiting for whisky, relaxation, or fine dining, this boutique hotel is an absolute gem.

United StatesThe road was steep with a sharp turn to enter and the signage could have been a bit more clear. I had the salad at dinner and it was awful. Bitter green lettuce with no dressing and way too much cheese on top. The rest of the food was excellent though.
Very clean and beautiful property. The staff were friendly although our server at dinner was not the best.

Also the rooms seem newly updated, very clean. Location was close to everything! If you’re unsure about if you should book or not, this is your sign.

New ZealandWe had a small room, but this was expected and was really no problem apart from the room being very warm…the noise from the nearby road was not really a problem either. Dinner prices were high, but given the quality of meals was understandable.
An exceptionally great range on offer for breakfast, probably the best ive experienced in any hotel anywhere in the world, and with a combination of Scottish traditional and healthy foods. Dinner was likewise extremely good; no need to consider eating out. Staff were very helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. The “Whisky Snug” room for tastings is almost unbelievable, with 600 whiskys on offer!
