At breakfast unfortunately staff had not turned in and the poor chef was trying to do everything. He did a great job , but there where items like milk for a cup of tea missing.

Stopped once on the way to Portsmouth and then on the return two weeks later .Both times the reception staff where amazing especially the lady that waited for us at 2min to midnight when we where late due to a road closure

Room was very small for the price point (I booked deluxe) the shower flooded the floor in the bathroom as there is no glass panel to stop it, it then started to drip hours after using it and I couldn’t stop it so the floor was soaked again. It was a warm day and the room was just so hot, so I couldn’t sleep due to the heat - there was a fan provided but it was very poor in terms of speed and functionality. It was such a shame as I wanted to use this hotel as a semi regular stop for work in the area but I wouldn’t stay in the summer again.

Very welcoming staff, pub decor lovely, outdoor spaces nice, parking plentiful, room decor good. Room amenities are first class. Food in the restaurant was lovely and a good breakfast.

Absolutely beautiful room, a little small but fantastic design, well appointed with great attention to detail. Quality bedlinen, fan provided, rainfall shower, big fluffy towels, Bramley toiletries. Breakfast was delicious and I also ate in the restaurant one evening whch was absolutely first class. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great value.

A fantastic change to the normal boring generic chain hotels. Beautiful hotel with fantastic restaurant, bar, outdoor seating for drinks & dinner etc. Every detail has been thought out perfectly. Really beautiful hotel & fantastic for our dogs to! They travel everywhere with us & this is the best hotel for us & them we've been to in years. Beautiful location. Love the layout with the separate rooms in separate buildings in the original coaching style inn it once was. Would highly recommend this fabulous hotel to anyone. Also the sloe Gin in our room was a very nice touch. As well as the very nice tea & coffee etc.

The shower in our room needs a better enclosure as it s open to the whole bathroom . May not be feasible but just a suggestion

The people and the property were great. We were very close to Highclere castle our main reason for staying at the this property. The staff were amazing welcoming and helpful. A great stay thank you for your hospitality

Really superb accomodation and breakfast, not far off A34 but traffic noise not a problem. We would stay there again even if we had to fit the ferry round their availability! We were a few minutes late due to road closures but night staff were able to let us in.

So sorry….. when the restaurant got very busy at peak times it was obvious there was a struggle … It is a bit out of the way if you have no car but we got around on foot & took taxi to Highclere….

The Hare & hounds exceeded our expectations, although the bedroom was small , it was exactly true to pictures . This place is oozes character! We were able to walk into Newbury & Donnington Castle. The food was amazing, the menus available throughout the day/evening certainly did not disappoint, service was excellent & Max was indeed an excellent host - not forgetting the young ladies in the restaurant who were excellent & so friendly & professional. The outside eating area was a bonus given the weather & a chef on the barbecue on the bank holiday weekend…. Let’s say the icing on the cake!!! Food was 10/10 ….. from start to finish…. Bravo !

Beautiful hotel, loved the decor and all the little touches like pillow spray and toiletries. bed is super comfy with quality bedding. Restaurant and bar lovely cozy surroundings, well thought out. Food was to a really high standard, wines reasonably priced and high quality. Nailed it. My dog also had a great stay!!!

There was a mix up at checkin where I was given keys to room that was occupied, I disturbed the person staying in the room by walking in on them as they were getting out the shower which was embarrassing and I apologised and went back to reception and was given a different and this time empty room but I would have liked to receive an update on the startled guest to let me know that it was explained that it wasn't my fault.

The room was exceptionally clean and very lovely decorated. The breakfast was really good, if there was good coffee and fresh juice it would be fantastic. Lots of secure free parking
