The room was quite dirty. Cleaning between guests clearly is reduced to the minimum of replacing the bedding and giving the sink and toilet a quick wipe. Lots of dirt in corners of the room, on walls and blinds. Also, our room 8 was next to the main entrance door and stairs and you could hear people entering and exiting and walking up/down the stairs as if there was no wall. Also note that you might actually not stay at the place given in the description on Booking.com, but in a property a few hundred metres away.

the room was very hot, the fan available in the room wasn't suitable, there wasn't cold water in the shower (you could only get either hot or nearly boiling water), the utensils provided weren't very clean (cutlery and cups), the soundproofing is non existent and the accommodation is right on a main road - that added to the fact that we had to sleep with the window open made it a sleepless night.

Minor problem, I would have liked a light I could have left on, either in the bathroom or hallway, for my youngest child. He was a bit scared in a new place with it being so dark.

Great layout for a family. Good facilities, kettle, microwave and bowls make for easy meals with kids.

Walls a little thin so can hear guests coming and going and I was paranoid they would hear my noisy children in the morning but that could happen in most hotels!

Not the hotels fault, but we we’re unfortunate enough to have noisy family above us. Stamping and slamming around from 1:30am until we left at 8:30 in the morning.

the walls were thin, our room on the ground floor felt claustrophobic there was a microwave, small Fridge on the window sill

we booked three rooms for family, this was our second choice of accommodation as our first was cancelled. it was one over night stay after a visit to Colchester zoo.

Stars to room steep not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. No mention of this when booking. Room was clean and comfortable but no ensuite, the bathroom was next door and accessed by a corridor which was used by other customers. This was embarrassing when going for a shower in nightdress or going to the toilet at night if other customers were coming in late

everything - don’t portray yourself as anything other than a youth hostel. The stairs are dangerous - way too steep - and the room I was in looked like it should charge by the hour. the TV doesn’t work and the shower hasn’t been descaled at all which means it goes everywhere other than on you.

the room was compact as we expected but the shower cubicle was not clean and there was no towel for the floor. We expected a small room but did not realise that there would be no-where to put things. Bizarrely, there was an ironing board and we used it put our clothes on it. No-where to put things and not clean in the shower.
