The room faced the road and it was quite loud with the cars driving by on the main road. But once I fell asleep it was fine and couldn’t hear it much.

The room was nice, clean and a good size. Everyone who worked there was so lovely and friendly. Felt very welcome. The location was beautiful and convenient to catch the bus. The food at the restaurant was good too. Nice selection.

Just one nitpick, it’s not an issue and did not affect our stay in the slightest but the shower head in Room 3 could do with replacing or repairing, the chrome part of the shower head just felt as if it could come off at any point, apart from this, everything was just perfect!

I’m not often moved emotionally by a location, however the Travellers Rest really hit the spot for me! It was a long awaited catch up with my partner and we could not have found a better place, the staff are amazing, they genuinely make you feel so welcomed with a fantastic none judgemental attitude, we have found in the past being a male couple, some establishments act awkward or not very welcoming but not here, it was like coming home and being welcomed by family! The pub/restaurant is absolutely fantastic, could not fault the food, even though we arrived quite late on, they still accommodated us so we could have a good hearty meal! After our food, we where shown to the room (No3) what a beautiful, clean and comfortable room, I thought that we had been put in a much more expensive room but this is the standard that you can see they clearly strive for. Being out in the countryside, the hotel was amazingly quiet with just the occasional traffic noise, this did not bother us at all, we sleep with the window open so could not moan in the slightest, they have secondary glazing so I am confident that you would not hear the traffic noise! Breakfast was just superb, a great selection of cereals and drinks to get you started, the menu selection is also very good with plenty to choose from, we both had the full English breakfast, this set us both up for the day and a 6 hour walk! I would 110% come back here, especially knowing that they are dog friendly in certain rooms. If you do choose to stay here, I must suggest that you go outside when it’s dark and the bar has closed, the darkness and silence is almost spiritual, a genuinely perfect location! Not having enough space to sit and have a drink in the pub everywhere was set or reserved for people to eat we ended up sitting in our room to have a drink so not impressed at all.

Heating at night was a tad too much

The place was simply amazing, clean, the style of the establishment had an appealing style. Food 10 out of 10 the staff friendly attentive and professional. The room that I stayed at was clean and the bed was comfy extra points for extra pillows will definitely be booking a room again when I plan to go for hike in the area.

Although it didn't bother us, the Travellers Rest is on a busy road. To be fair, the traffic is at a minimum late evening and overnight and we slept well throughout our visit. Don't let this stop you from visiting what is a really great place,

We liked the room, it was nicely decorated and dressed, the shower was great, the bed very comfy. There was a nice little lounge area for residents and two nice sitting areas to sit outside with a drink and look at the views. The dining room is full of character and the food absolutely delicious, the staff were attentive and very friendly. The pub is situated outside Grasmere village but it is an easy walk to the centre., overall we loved our stay and will be returning.

There was a bulb out in the shower cubicle and there was nowhere to sit other than on the bed.

Noisy road during the night trying to sleep

Great location, friendly staff, good bar and restaurant, free parking, good hotel price...we always try and stay there if not fully booked.

The bedrooms overlooked the road and when windows were opened to let in fresh air it could be quite noisy at busy times during the daytime however did not cause much disturbance as we were out all day and was not a problem at night as the road was very quiet. Double glazed windows ensured minimal disturbance when windows were closed.

Fantastic location, friendly and very helpful staff, very comfortable and clean property with lovely restaurant. Cosy but comfortable room for two people. Would definitely recommend to others and would book again without any hesitation.
