Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt was close to the road and a little noisy, there were road works during our stay. Windows are not double glazed although the shutters cut down the noise a little.
Tall ceilings and nice floor tiles! Nice the lower ground seating area.

United KingdomThe sheet situation, you get one sheet and it’s very thin. The bed sheet on the bed is a towel material which is a bit scratchy then the one sheet you get given is to cover yourself which when it’s cold or windy you’re left shivering. If I could suggest offering people two sheets a medium one and thin one and they can choose to put it down on mattress to sleep on top of or sleep with as a blanket to regulate temperature. Also the blinds when it is hot really stop any air coming in so it’s really not well ventilated. Additionally I would make it really clear that there are other toilets/showers as everyone was waiting for one bathroom next door when there’s a whole room a few steps away.
It was clean, with all the facilities you needed, even in the kitchen which was really useful. Staff were helpful, and there was also a cute cat. The bed itself had sockets and a privacy blind. The bus to and from the airport stop just down the road (it’s not very clear online but it does) and it’s a straight forward walk to the town centre.

IrelandNothing to say
It was in a good location, within walking distance to the city centre, the room was equipped with air conditioning and I had the luck to have a bathroom in the room, so everything was great. The staff was perfect and Efi (sorry if I write incorrectly) was really nice and cool to chat.

AustraliaNothing at all.
Everything. The staff were delightful, the amenities top class, the reception area was like a good cafe with great drinks and food snacks options, the common sitting areas were luxurious. It was more like a four star hotel than a hostel yet with all the socialising advantages of the latter. Cant recommend it highly enough.

GreeceNothing to note. Would visit again.
The double rooms in Kumba Hostel are situated on the top floor of this beautiful building with high ceilings and elegant architecture. We loved the vibe of the Hostel and the room was filled with natural light, clean, and just the right size for our two-night stay (at half the price of any other hotel). What is more, the location was very convenient for us.

BelgiumI had a big issue with one guest who apparently is staying there for a loooong time (months). I heard many people had the same issues as me. So I wrote a kind message to the owner to explain what I was dealing with and why this person was crossing many bounderies (like respect of the other, respect of the room in terms of noize, screaming, farting, burping, laughing like a mad man)... But the owner didn't even take the time to answer.
The hostel is really nice in a beautifull area. Big common kitchen (laking of quality stuff to cook) but clean, big and working. The chilling area is very nice, cozy and confortable. The staff is very helpfull and will make your stay nice and lovely. Room are nice, mats are very confy and you get a tick curtain to enjoy little privacy. Recommanded

BulgariaI am allergic to animal fur and there was a cat inside the hostel. Cats in Crete seem to be sacred animals, they are everywhere around the island, and I understand that it might be part of the culture. It is just that my health condition allows me only to enjoy them from the distance.
I really liked the atmosphere at the Kumba Hostel, it is beautifully decorated with African pieces of art and I loved that. I learned that Kumba means Home. It has vast and cozy common areas which is great. It is also very clean and well maintained. My bed had a blind which provides extra privacy in a shared dorm. The girls at the reception were very friendly and helpful. The coffee you can drink there is one of the best in Chania in my opinion. I would definitely recommend Kumba Hostel to everyone planning to visit Crete.

RussiaI didn't like that the dorm didn't have window and the air was not fresh due to working moister collector and that I had to ask for the 2nd bedsheet (it's was everywhere only one on beds to put down) and towel was for extra price. The dorm was quite close to the hall where it was very noisy in the beginning.
The atmosphere was very nice. It's clean, modern, personal is friendly and helpful, there is minibar and coffee bar with snacks, beds have good mattresses, it had shower in the dorm (but no toilet).
