Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Greece1. there is SO MUCH NOISE outside - i could hear the speakers of a techno party nearby buzzing for hours! it was so annoying, I had a headache the whole day because of that. Make sure you bring some earplugs!! Usually I never care about noise in accommodation, but these buzzing speakers were driving me crazy. 2. the location is quite far away and it's really annoying bringing your heavy backpacks and luggages up all this way. 3. don't trust the tuktuk guys!! we got off the ferry and a guy told us he would get us to the hotel for 20 quetzales (2.5 euros) - after some bargaining. We started walking up and there was no tuktuk to be seen around. We walked for around 5 minutes with our heavy backpacks and there was no tuktuk! We asked him what's going on and he said his tuk tuk is just around the corner. We went there and he said that actually we wouldn't get the tuktuk and he would just take us to our hotel without any means of transportation or carrying our bags. We said that we didn't want him to come with us and he started saying that there is a lot of crime and he is a policeman (LIES!), so it's safer for us to go with him. We told him we didn't want him, but he insisted. He brought us to the hotel and asked for the 20 quetzales. He was really insistent and we got scared and just gave him the money. Very heavy experience. 4. the google maps location for Casa Berena is wrong. you need to improvise a bit to find it.
Nice and clean rooms. There are hammocks outside where you can enjoy the view from.

AustraliaHard to find. Search casa Berena on Google maps rather than hotel berena. would be great if the hotel could put a sign near the laneway with the big blind lemon sign so people know where to go.
An incredible view for a bargain price. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

MexicoThere isn't a "reception" desk or hours, so wanting to add days or laundry was a bit tricky knowing when you'd see staff go ask them, but that's it! The private showers aren't great, I used the shared ones but having a private bathroom was worth it to me.
This place is a hidden gem! Such a good value for the money, stunning view with hammocks to sit in and great, clean room. Really close to Centro, only a 3 mins walk to the main road.

United StatesThey moved me in the evening after I checked in and while I was sleeping, they made a mistake when they gave me the wrong room. The beds are not comfortable (in my opinion). No mosquito net on the windows Not good sound insulation (you can hear everything)

JapanWe came and nobody was here to check us in. There is actually ni reception! When we talked to other people here they said they also had to come here, call the hotel and wait a few hours until someone came just like we did! There are bugs in the room and no hot water. Also we asked for a private room with a shower and they told us it is not available even though we booked it. Please, stay away from this place! It is the worst I have ever seen and I have been traveling for a while. Every guest I met here said that. I really don’t understand how they are graded so well here.
Literally nothing

NetherlandsThe WiFi is really bad, if you need to be working online then this is not the best place. They also lock the kitchen at night which is not good because we had stuff in the refrigerator and have to leave early to catch the bus. We almost missed it because of this. Also the description of the place is bad, luckily a taxi driver knew the place but on our own we would never be able to find it.
The location was good and the view is nice.

GermanyAmazing view, friendly stuff, super clean. Every room has his own hammock. 10 minutes walk from the pier. Go in the direction of the Moonfish café, take the street before the café to the right and follow the street until the "farmacia". Take the way to left.

United KingdomThere is no reception desk, so we were supposed to ring someone to pay and check in. Our pillow cases had no covers and some stains on and we were woken up multiple times both nights from cockerels and dogs barking.
On a day with clear skies the view would be beautiful from the balcony. There's free water and a kitchen with lots of utensils.

SlovakiaSometimes there is smoke because the neighbors are burning things down in the gardens.
New building and equipment, nice view of the lake, volcanoes and sunrise like in the palm of your hand. Each room has its own hammock. The employees are wonderful, helpful, nice.

United KingdomThe staff are kind but not exactly helpful, I had a few problems during my stay and then never attended to them. For example, the window wouldn't close correctly. It literally needed 1 screw to be screwed in but during my 2 week stay they never fixed it. I was hiding my valuables every time I went out because it was not secure. I have an allergy to polyester and asked for cotton sheets, they were never able to provide these for me, but kept telling me 'mañana, mañana' so I slept for 2 weeks on a bare mattress. The same when I asked for a clean towel half way through my stay. There is no furniture to put your clothes/items anywhere so I had everything on the floor There's not even hooks to hang your towel The wifi pretty much never works well enough to be able to use it. The shower pressure is not strong enough to make the electric shower work so I had mostly freezing cold showers while I stayed. It's also probably one of the loudest places in San Marcos because being on the side of the hill amplifies the dogs, the church, the bombas etc. Dogs often bark all night long. Ear plugs are essential. The kitchen is new but also badly thought out/designed. The sink sink underneath a large over hanging cupboard so you have to stoop to use it. The table is also in the way of the stove if anyone is sat there. They have a total of 2 pots for cooking anything. It's very badly equipped. The kitchen is also locked at Night but no one told me when I arrived and so I had 1 night without water. It was fine but I wouldn't stay again. It could be great if they had better bed sheets, more towels and better kitchen supplies
The view is awesome and the staff are kind It's also nice that everything is new and there is no mold

United Statesthey overbooked. someone lost their room and took mine before I arrived. no staff was available at the property when I arrived to help me after walking 500ms with lots of heavy baggage. I had to call multiple numbers and fight over the phone to finally have someone find me a place to stay. once the person arrived she was friendly and found a room in another place for me. the other place was a huge downgrade from their hotel but they paid for it so it was a free night for me. I would have rather payed for a nice place though.

United StatesIt’s a little bit out of the way and you have to pass through a dark alley and climb a hill to reach it. But being outside the city also means it’s much quieter.
The room was very clean, and the bathroom was nice. The hotel also has some of the best lake views of all of San Marcos. The staff are also very kind and welcoming.
