Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

United StatesThe beds were not super comfortable, and the walk up from the lake was steep and would be difficult for some guests.
Location off the busy island was wonderful. The pool and rooftop lounge were very comfortable and the views were spectacular. The meals were delicious and the owner was delightful and took excellent care of us.

Really comfortable and clean room with airconditioning. The place itself is really pretty and easy to reach by boat from Flores (only a few minute boat ride). The owner and the stuff are incredibly friendly. They also did our laundry within a few hours which was perfect because we only stayed for 1 night.

SloveniaGreat choice in San Miguel! The view of the island of Flores is available all day, from the restaurant or terrace with hammocks. All their food is excellent, worth a try. There is a viewpoint nearby, just the right distance for a walk. The staff is friendly and helpful, they come to pick you up on Flores Island when you arrive. The highlight of a visit to the hotel is the opportunity to observe toucans up close several times a day, which are always somewhere nearby, they even knocked on our room window.

AustraliaGetting to and from the hotel at night without local phone connection sometimes took a while(not hotels fault). Guy organising the tours was a bit negative.
Liked the views over the island in front and the easy access to the ruins behind. Howler monkeys a very short walk from the hotel. Lovely food and very welcoming chef. Helpful knowledgeable owners.

United KingdomThe only slight downside was the number of loose dogs around San Miguel. I didn't have an issue with them but may not be ideal if you lack confidence around dogs. (The dogs that belong to Zapote Tree are sweethearts).
I found Zapote Tree Inn when looking for an alternative to the more 'party' style hostels on the island, and I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend it to any travellers looking for some quiet and relaxation. Zapote Tree is sat in a beautiful spot in San Miguel, across the lake from Flores, with a lovely rooftop view of the island and plenty of hammocks for relaxing. There are forest trails nearby and it is really easy to travel across the lake (10Q to the island). Peter and Eric are wonderful, so warm and welcoming and very helpful with organising tours and shuttles. The food I ate there was also delicious. I really recommend taking a boat tour of the lake with Peter - the bird life is wonderful.

United StatesBeautiful location and easy/fun to access Flores island with a quick boat ride. I loved hiking the ruins just up the hill from the inn, and I saw tropical birds and howler monkeys several times. I didn’t know what I wanted to do here other than Tikal, but Peter and Eric gave me great suggestions and made everything feel easy.

ItalyWe were afraid we couldn't reach the hotel. The roads in San Miguel are pretty crummy. But Erik guided us to safety! Brenda, who is the chef, made some of the best meals we had in Guatemala - if you stay there definitely try her tamales they're exceptional. Peter, the owner, was a great presence and offered interesting information about the history of the area and what we could explore. This is a place where all concerned genuinely want you to have a good time.

We had such a wonderful stay that we kept on extending our stay. Everything was amazing: the location, facing Flores, in a quiet, beautiful spot; the hotel, beautifully decorated; the staff, insanely kind, always ready to make your stay easier by helping you with all your activities. We felt on vacation like never before! Don't hesitate for a second: book now!

FranceNothing.
So this is an example of how epic a place to stay can be. From the moment we arrived in Flores, we didn’t lift a finger as the team at Zapote took care of EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. We were picked up within ten mins by boat by the very cheerful and helpful owner Peter. He then took us on a tour of the place personally and ensured we were comfortable before arranging an incredible meal 20 minutes after arriving (a little late also I might add). Peter and his team then told us all about the island and how to explore the incredible excavation site and nature walk from the doorstep. We saw monkeys and birds and were greeted by all the locals. The highlight was the trip to Tikal, which was organised (and great value) effortlessly by the team there and again we didn’t have to organise a thing. The sound of bird life in the morning (and the occasional chicken!) were such a soothing way to wake up and enjoy the sounds of Guatemala. We want to thank the team at Zapote for such an incredible experience, friendly team, Great food and kind people. What a place. What a place.

GuatemalaExtra charge for the AC. Q50 and worth it on a hot night! There is a fan in the room.
The Guatemalan man who works there is incredible. I wish I had caught his name. He was so nice and helpful during our short stay there. A very peaceful hotel with views of the water and a lush garden. I didn't see any toucans but my partner saw one perched next to one of the rooms in the morning. We had the traditional dinner with eggs, fried plantains, beans, cheese, toast and fruit- it was delicious! We had the same for breakfast and it was the perfect meal to get us through Tikal. The prices for the room and the food was all reasonable. There is an extra charge to use AC but that's across the board in the area. Highly recommend!

United StatesWe thought everything was great. There were some firecrackers that were lit early in the morning, but that could happen anywhere and wasn't really a fault of the location.
We loved our stay! Peter and Eric were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They organized our tour to Tikal and transport so we didn't have to worry about a thing. Honestly, Brenda's cooking was the best food we had during our entire trip to Flores and we didn't even realize that we could order our meals there so that was a wonderful surprise. We found the entire place charming for our first stop in Guatemala. We lazed in hammocks and couldn't get enough of the view. We also liked that it was across the lake in San Miguel instead of Flores because San Miguel was more laid back and relaxed.

Great experience to take the boat back and forth. Eric takes great care of guests and is super helpful, you can tell he is the heart and soul of the property. I hadn’t booked my tour to Tikal and was able to did so at the property at a great rate. You can walk to a nearby excavation site, viewpoint, and even a private beach. Good water pressure, warm showers, and great AC. I ate several meals at the property and they were all delicious and generous portions. Great lounging areas to relax.
