We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. GermanyAlthough it is highly emphasized that your Bale will have full seclusion and privacy, unfortunately it wasn't really the case for us. In the morning, there were some staff really close to the bottom of our Bale and were cleaning there or passing by. Some of the staff even looked up into our Bale, and it felt really uncomfortable as we were using the bath at that time. So be aware of your own privacy, especially for females.
The resort is located deep inside the forest, about 2 hours car ride away from Denpasar airport. The isolated location makes the surrounding very quiet and immersive in nature. The no doors no walls experience was exceptional, and the view from the room and the dining area was simply stunning! On a good weather, you get a chance to see the beautiful mountains beyond the clouds of mist. The staff at Buahan knew their guests' name and would greet us so, and they catered our experience according to our preferences. Ingredients they used for cooking were sourced locally, and mostly plant-based. Depending on the day of your stay, they provide different tours/activities. We got to participate in their private waterfall tour and cocktail making session. Would love to be back in the future.

PortugalBuahan by Banyan Tree is a wonderful escape into nature whilst allowing us to feel right at home. The resort rooms and premise are spectacular, as it made us feel to be at one with the nature surrounding it. What made this experience even more outstanding was the attentive staff which were prompt to help with any query or doubts we may have had at any time. Upon making special requests or last minute arrangements, Widi would always provide detailed and personalised help, which made the stay magical as we felt we had a close friend always helping us throughout our stay.

United StatesNothing! Literally liked everything about the resort. You must be patient with the 2+ hour drive from the Bali airport, but so worth the effort. Ok... Buahan, Banyan Tree is a splurge but you will not regret spending your hard earned money at this resort!
The property location was incredible! True story- we had booked only one night and was moving to another location , after we arrived at Buahan Banyan Tree my wife and I looked at each other and at the same time said "we aren't leaving this place!" We cancelled the other hotel! The Buahan villas were incredible! Only 16 villas, so very private. The staff greets you by name! Our private concierge, De Gus was always available to answer any questions, help with tours, and make our stay as comfortable as possible. There is a private waterfall on the property, so beautiful! All the food is sourced from the resort gardens or local suppliers. Villas are open air but the curtains close around the rooms and the bed giving you privacy. The bed has its own a/c system for you if you're concerned about the jungle temps!

United StatesThe number of downsides (or things to watch out for) in a resort I ranked this high and that we ultimately loved is precisely because of its high standards. First, you can get amazing villas for around 300USD/night in Bali, which makes Buahan one of the most expensive hotels on the island. I do think it is slightly overpriced but if you can afford it... It seems most people only stay 2-3 nights for this reason, which brings my next major issue. Since Buahan is meant as an all-inclusive experience, they were very dismissive of our requests for assistance with daily excursions. We were often told "don't go there, it's too far", like Blue Lagoon Beach or a day trip to Nusa Penida island (both very doable). Given their standards, I appreciate advice but I expect impeccable concierge service to support my trip (we used Putu Bali Driver). Which brings me to the 3rd downside: location. Buahan is 1h from Ubud and 2:30h from Denpasar (+traffic). It makes Buahan way quieter and less touristy than Ubud. But you will have a hard time to use Grab car (Bali version of Uber). Not a huge issue if you plan for trips with a company. The 4th issue is a matter of taste. 5-courses prix fixe dinner was a bit of a hit and miss for us, with some unexpected savors and textures. The issue is that there isn't really a carte to order from (there is a villa service with more options but with a surcharge and lesser quality). The food is very fresh and healthy however. Fifth issue is one I'm ashamed of: WiFi quality was quite poor/unstable, although the staff did their best to assist with a local router. You should be unplugging when in Buahan, but at this price tag... Lastly, please note this resort is on a hillside, which means: stairs! The most private villas are at the bottom, with 250 stairs to the car pickup (that's 500/day!). Villas up top are available but not restaurants. Careful if you have mobility issues.
Buahan is everything it promises to be: a luxurious yet immersive experience in the Balinese jungle. The grounds are enchanting (with the caveat of stairs - see downsides), with stunning views (see photos). Our villa/bale was a River Valley style (#17), very quiet and private. Beds are comfortable, with mosquito curtains (you will need them - and repellent) and a powerful/silent AC system. Hot water supply was impeccable. The pool is on the cold side but a welcome relief in the tropical heat, and relaxing. The staff is plentiful and incredibly nice and helpful, in the tradition of Balinese hospitality. Food was the most surprising, with a daily prix fixe dinner menu meant as a culinary exploration of local products (see downsides). Breakfast was amazing, with delicious mini-pastries. We did not take advantage of all the wellness offers since we had our own plans but they seem like a huge plus of this resort. We walked down to the waterfall on our own (with waiver) which was a moderately arduous hike with steep stairs; you can walk into the waterfall with the right shoes (rocky river), which makes this short hike worth it. Overall, Buahan gives you the opportunity to comfortably wake up to the trillings of birds while watching the sun rise on a steamy tropical valley. Doesn't get better than this.

BahrainThe only thing that I would change is the bedding. It needed a refresh.
This hotel was one of my favorite stays throughout my travels! The Hotel is nestled into an expansive lush jungle with nothing as far as the eyes can see. It is secluded and far away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hotspots in Bali, and I could not be happier with my selection. The staff were absolutely fantastic too! They were friendly, attentive and a joy to deal with. The villas are stunningly beautiful and seamlessly blend into the surrounding greenery.

This property was absolutely amazing. Being in the heart of the jungle was such a unique experience and Banyan Tree Escape made our first trip to Bali so memorable. The staff was what made this experience so dear to our heart. Our host, De Gus, went above and beyond to make us feel at home and even assisted with setting up our proposal. It was perfect!! The staff at the spa were exceptional and even management took a moment to introduce themselves to us and congratulate us on our engagement. We simply cannot recommend this property enough!

AustraliaIt is truly a hidden sanctuary with intense positive aura and purpose. A very unique place in the world and a brave idea implemented by the makers of Banyan Tree with no walls, no doors opening up to infinite green amidst, and a safe and tranquil jungle Buahan has a very unique and intense sense in the surroundings that passes on,uplifting your mood to an easy state of relaxation straight away. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again. We truly enjoyed our time with the staff at Buahan. Everything felt so personalised and genuinely caring. Had the best experience with Arda, Ikan, Olive, Yana, and Weidi. We will simply come back for the experience, love, and care we received from the staff here. The chef was amazing too, and the food here is fabulous, with mostly plant based is a treat. Half board is totally worth the experience. Arda, thank you for following every query of mine to a tee with a smile always. Ikan, you make the best cocktails in the world, and thanks for the special negroni. Love you all much🥰

United StatesI didn't like that I had to leave.
Buahan gives a completely new perspective in a hotel stay (a modern take on a traditional Balinese house) while giving you a true experience of the culture and appreciation of nature and wilderness. You won't leave without learning something about yourself. It is an escape with an open, breathtaking view of the world like no other, an elegantly designed room using natural materials for construction and furnishing, with hospitality that is genuine and warm, and cultivated foods to detoxify your body and soul. I could only dream of a place like this away from a polluted, busy civilization. If you don't like this place for any reason, you are missing the point.

SpainEverything was more than perfect, it was a true pleasure to stay
Everything was beautiful. The rooms are spacious and very private, the pool is just great size with beautiful views (definitely go for the valley views instead of the river). The bed is extra comfortable and cozy, as beautiful when they close the curtains at night. Plenty of activities also free of charge like hiking, waterfall, farm… staff is unreal, everyone is very attentive and smiling all the time. Arpa was available at any time during the whole stay doing everything and beyond to make us feel like home. We were shocked with R, he makes the most beautiful cocktails with all farmed ingredients and even prepare their own alcohol. Food menus are very curated and delicious. Definitely worth the expense to stay in this marvelous property, they have done a great job with sustainability and it’s beautiful seeing they tried to touch the least possible the environment and surroundings.

United Arab EmiratesThere was nothing we didn't love.
Nothing short of spectacular! One of the most unique places on earth to spend an evening. We had a fabulous time. The occasion was our 10th anniversary, thank you Susi and all the team for making it a special time. We travelled North and around the coast via Lovina to spend the evening here. We would recommend other visitors do this if you are centrally located as we found the drive a bit more comfortable and accessible. We have taken southern roads before and the travel time is longer in our opinion. There is a narrow private access road into Buhan which is charming and the facilities are very private and secluded. We loved this. On site the surroundings are stunning and this is a gross understatement. The vibe comes with a true Balinese cultural service experience we cannot praise all the staff enough. What we would typically expect from a hotel lobby, reception experience is something entirely different here. It redefines this experience for a guest. You have to go there to experience it first hand. There is no obvious defined lobby or reception as such the whole experience is tour in stages and makes for a very warm hospitable experience. The accommodation is nothing short of dream worthy. Photos do not it justice no matter how impressive the photography. Be prepparred for a complete outdoor experience in complete privacy. The Treetop construction is both fascinating and uplifting to experience. The private pool and adjacent resting cabano areas are perfect for chilling out and lazing around. In the evening we sat by the fire pit and the guest team prepparred all the bamboo screening and internal nets (for those scared of the local wildlife). In that respect, despite the obvious outdoor venue there is very little of this for anyone with any concerns. We were also extremely impressed with the level of overall material finish, like the sanitaryware, showers, bath etc. Whilst this is undoubtedly a luxury experience nothing has been short cut.

AustraliaWish we could have stayed longer!
From the moment of arrival, we felt instantly relaxed and excited to begin our holiday. It was lovely chatting to the Resort Manager Puspa and hearing stories about the Buahan journey thus far from an insider's point of view. Buahan's commitment to sustainability, fostering community and encouraging guests to be at one with nature are highly commendable. For us it's the amazing people, exceptional food and unique experiences that made our stay truly wonderful and unforgettable. A special mention goes to De Gus, our host who was professional, friendly, engaging and always anticipated our needs. On numerous occasions he went out his way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Special thanks to Chef Eka and Chef Agus for the mouth watering meals they prepared for us. We love the concept of 70% plant based, and also the opportunity to go foraging for ingredients, we have learnt so much! A few tips and must do's to share based on our experience: - Tjampuhan Waterfall Trek --> Descend down gravel pathways and you'll be rewarded with Buahan's own private waterfall, beautiful and mesmerising. - Pop-up lunch at Tegal Dukuh, Taro Village --> The perfect blend of culture, adventure, education and of course, delicious food. - Yoga @ the Pavilion --> Best way to start your day, breathe in the peace and tranquility, practising yoga amongst the lush forest and greenery. - Cocktail hour @ Botanist Bar --> Enjoy the 'Salak' Cocktail (whiskey sour with a Buahan twist!) during sunset - Subak Buahan Trek --> A delightful trek exploring local plants and flora, finishing with a stroll through paddy rice fields. Last but not least, if you're reading this review and researching a resort to stay at in Bali, look no further and book Buahan - it is truly one of a kind, an experience like no other!
