We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Germanybathrooms could be cleaner (wasn’t horrible at all, but for a 10/10 i would expect a bit cleaner bathrooms), the fans aren’t really good enough in the bedroom dorm (each bed has its own fan but since the dorm is open to the outside it gets quite warm - was here in august) and i would love to have my own plug and night lamp at the bed
beautiful setting and nice pool, excellent free breakfast (great value), lovely staff, working wifi, the swinging bad was really fun for a night and the bamboo construction was just very cool, the curtains around the bed give you good mosquito protection and privacy

FinlandMe and my partner would highly recommend Captain Coconuts. We stayed 4 nights in deluxe villa. The staff, facilities and overall vibe were great, friendly and welcoming. Very local, close to nature but stunning at the same time. In addition, there was vegan options available at the cafe and the communication with the staff in English was very easy. We will stay here again when we visit Gili Air!

Australia- shower terrible (barely any water pressure, next to no hot water, floods the floor) - holes in the bed mosquito net - breakfast hit and miss (didn’t like the egg wrap) - barely anyone staying there/ no vibe - towel raggedy full of holes. Towels low quality - hammocks mouldy - more expensive (about 900k IDR per night) than our other hotel on GiliT - get woken up by loud call to prayer from local mosque around 5am (although you encounter this at most accommodations in Gili islands). (Note we stayed in room Q2)
Pool quite nice. Staff helpful. Helped us organise a great snorkel tour with nearby company ‘Luckys’. Helped us do laundry.

New ZealandIv stayed a few the place seems to be going down hill! The shared bathroom was filthy, and the fan in my mates bed wasn't Woking...asked for a towl and received a rag....asked for breakfast menu and got given a villa one then got it taken off me feeling like I was a second class citizen...I just didn't appreciate it. Treated lower class... We left after one night...iv stayed in a few hostels, but this one isn't comfortable at all. I'm really disappointed and the staff are not happy. Lombok people are so accommodating, but for some reason, the staff here are not! Glad to leave.
Pools always the best part

SpainThe sleeping room is uncomfortable. There is no space to hang the towels, bikinis, etc. Everything is a bit dirty except for the sheets. But the floor is not swept, the toilets should be cleaned more frequently.
The swimming pool area is very nice but it is overpriced. The staff is very friendly. Relaxed atmosphere not appropriate if you travel solo as it is difficult to socialize

Czech RepublicUnfortunately you can hear every step of every person, music playing till late from other hotels, sometimes your bed shakes when someone walks or move in their bed, the floors and everything else is slowly wearing down and the bamboo and doors squeak. When I arrived the bathroom was disgusting with rubbish, hair and mold everywhere, I complained to the staff and they fixed it quickly, but it still needs a deep clean to scrub all the mold of the tiles. Breakfasts were horrible, few oats floating in a glass of milk, deep fried pancake so greasy and heavy you could taste only oil, only the wrap was nice.
Lovely garden and pool, each bed has its own fan and curtains, it’s like sleeping on a boat so you need to get used to it

NetherlandsOne of the toilets leaked so the bathroom floor was flooded all the time. Housekeeping cleaned it every day but apparently never reported the problem. It took a long time for the shower to get hot (waste of water!) or it didn’t get hot at all. It’s not a disaster with it being hot outside, but when you pay such a large amount of money you expect at least a warm shower. We didn’t use the kitchen as it looks old and dirty. We even thought twice before putting things in the fridge. Again: in this price range it should have been cleaner and of better quality.
Private house set in a beautiful garden, only 150m away from one of the nicer beaches on the island, with plenty of good restaurants and beach bars.

GermanyThe bathroom is very dark and the toilets and showers are unfortunately not very clean. Unfortunately, very little water comes out of the shower heads due to all the limescale. The bathrooms need a general overhaul.
The pool area is nice and I liked the idea of the hanging beds, although it's a bit unusual at first and you have to get used to it.

DenmarkI was the only one in the dorm the first night out of two so hard to meet people. Not that social and was mainly families who were there during my stay. The dorms are outside which is nice. But it does mean you can’t close the door when it’s noisy, and there was a lot of construction on the property when I was there. The construction was next to the breakfast area and pool, so you couldn’t sit there and chill without hammers banging. You will also hear the mosque and the roosters.
The vibe is chill, breakfast included, nice location. The staff helps you book activities and transport. It’s very pretty and the included breakfast is nice. The snorkling and ferry they booked was cheaper than booking directly.

Francehowever, I was there at the end of the ramadan and the night was terrible. the mosq was talking all night long, and as the dorm is open on the outside, it was really impossible to sleep. I know it is not the location fault, but still important to know, especially if you go during a celebration period

RomaniaThe pictures do not reflect the current state of the property: -pool is dirty (water and surroundings) and every cushion on the sunbeds were black from stains, I would never sit on them -rooms look nice in pictures, but in reality are really worn down, the walls are made of wooden planks with lots of spaces between, inviting all mosquitos in the room and you could hear every sound from the outside -bathroom is overused and needs renovation, esspecially the toilet lid was mouldy and grey, cheap plastic that got that way from the humidity, also rust stains on the inside of the toilet, disgusting -towels were brown so you could not really see if they had stains of dirt, but were discolored from excessive use, they need a change -bed linens were stained, even if they had dark grey color, probably to mask any stains, pillows had an odd smell -mosquito net around the bed was dirty all over and also ripped in one corner, so it offered not much protection from mosquitos -wifi in the room was almost inexistent, if you were lucky you could get some signal from the common area where the breakfast is served, but non usable if you have to work remotely (only in common area the wifi can be used for some working activities) -breakfast options sound good when reading them, but were awful and inedible, pancakes had the taste of an old frying pan, that you could smell while waiting for it and the other option we ordered, oats with “our special coconut sauce” were a handful of oats covered with a strongly watered down coconut milk that had no taste at all, covered with some apple splinters to look nice in a instagram picture, but also inedible. we left hungry looking to eat somewhere else -bicycles were overpriced, at 50k per day, we got better options at 35k elsewhere
The location is close to the beach, 5 min walking, but everybody rides bikes to get around fast. The owners’ cats were the main attraction and we loved having them around in the common areas. The atmosphere was nice, guests seem to be bonding easily.

BrazilThe bathroom situation was really disappointing. I totally get the concept of the Balinese open shower, but the way it is set up, the toilets are also in the "open" part, which just makes waking up in the middle of the night to pee when it is raining quite annoying (not to mention that the toilet paper gets obviously wet). Still about the showers, the water goes everywhere, except on you, and there are no shelves or hooks in the showers. I wish the cleaning was also better. The second thing I would like to point out is not going to impact everyone, but do not stay in the dorms if you have allergy problems. The concept of the open space and the hanging beds is great, I really liked it, but there is this fine dust that comes from the roof that is terrible. If that is not a problem for you, it is totally worth it.
The location is quite good and the common areas (especially the pool) are quite pleasant. The staff is also very friendly.

MalaysiaBreakfast quality has dropped since my visit in early 2020. Portions are still huge but it wasn't as tasty and well-made as before. The individual fan by the bed was dusty. The bathrooms aren't very clean. There was a leaking sink and an out of order light that were not fixed after I notified the front desk. The dormitory bathrooms were not clean often enough, with used toilet paper often overflowing from the bins. The showers do not have a toiletry cubbie or hanging space for towels and clothes. The water in the showers was not hot at all. The ledges and floors in the shower rooms and toilets were always dusty. The standard of cleanliness has dropped since my last visit.
Pretty setting, love that it's not bunk beds despite being a dormitory/hostel. Staff are friendly, too. Bed is relatively comfortable to sleep on.

United KingdomCharging to refill water! Add this to the price per night. The refill water is 8k idr and is luke warm. When the place is ‘committed’ to reducing plastic, this doesn’t incentivise anyone to not buy a cold plastic water for 10k. Can at times be hard to meet people with most of the place being in private bungalows or families.
Very relaxing place! Hanging beds are unique and super comfy. Good if you want an early night! The breakfast is much better than usual hostels.

Austria🧡 From the moment we met the Captain Coconuts crew, we knew we were in for an unforgettable time and adventure. Their attentive, caring, and fun-loving nature stole our hearts and made Gili Air so hard to leave. As parents, we appreciated every minute of their helping hands and the warm welcome they gave to our little one. This place is simply the best choice on the island if you travel with kids or without. It’s stylish and comfortable, with good food and fantastic service. We loved the combination of dorms and bungalows. It creates a friendly atmosphere for getting to know people.
