Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IndonesiaI didn't like leaving :'(
D'Jarwo is like staying with family! It's the second time I've visited Batukaras and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Highlights include cooking a seafood feast with the host and his friends.

United KingdomBrilliant, small, open hostel made from Bamboo with an amazing view. This hostel was exceptionally clean everyday and the staff were lovely! This is a perfect hostel for solo travellers looking for the local experience. We had such a great time cooking with Kentung, talking about Indonesian culture and being shown the local spots. The staff in this hostel will definitely treat you like family. Thank you so much for a brilliant brilliant stay.

New ZealandMaybe a little too basic for some travellers
I like it. Very basic little hostel down a dodgy looking alley. Nice and secluded and very quiet. The beds were comfy and the price was right. The staff were friendly and answered all my questions about the area. Green Canyon body rafting tour can be booked for rp250k which seems to be the cheapest on offer that I found. 100m or a 2 minute stroll to the surf beach and a 15 minutes walk to some nice warungs. Free tea and coffee, and some toast in the morning. Definitely worth staying if you just want to chill

GermanyI'm pretty sure the neighbour tortures his dog. You can hear the poor animal several times during the day for half an hour or longer each time and also at night. I woke up at 3 AM from a screaming dog (yes, screaming! Not barking or whining). When I went there at 11:30 PM the next night, the neighbours next to the house it was coming from called him on the phone and it stopped. Well, what a coincidence ... At first they didn't seem to realise what I meant, even though it was so noisy. Please take care of this poor animal. I really enjoyed my stay, but that part was unbearable, both as a guest and as a person that just doesn't want animals to be tortured. Showers and toilets could be a little bit cleaner on one side, the other side was good. My bed was comfortable, but at some points the material on the sides and on top can crumble a little bit. You may have some animals very close to you since it's really in nature. I hope it was only Geckos. :D Didn't have any direct encounters, though.
Hesa is a great host, the view, hostel, and cats are great too! The sounds of nature at night are very atmospheric

GermanyIn the off season, there really are not many travellers here. On the upside, you get to know the "real" Indonesia, but if you prefer to have internationals/travellers around, better come in high season.
The host was super friendly, let me borrow the bike to get to the surf spot more quickly, helped me with whatever we needed (transportation, food recommendation) and even gave us breakfast for free. I think for the budget traveller it´s the best place to stay in Batukaras. The house is 1 min from the beach and the surf spot maybe 10-15 minutes walk. It´s super for beginner, especially in the morning between 7 and 9, the water is almost empty most of the times and since it is a point break you always have ways to practice. So I recommend coming here 100%

GermanyAt first Batu Karas is a nice town and perfect to learn surfing. You can book cheap surflessons and scooter at the accomodation and its an simple but lovely hostel, you have beautiful sunsets with the view on a ricefield and its a good place to relax. You can also use the kitchen to cook and we got offered toast, bananas, coffee and water for free.

United KingdomIt may be too remote for some - turning up at night, it was hard to get there as a few roads are unlit alleyways. I found the bed space far too hot - the fan in the cubicle wasn't very effective.
Jarwo is a gentleman, full of wonderful stories. The hostel has a tranquility, being literally in the middle of a rice field.

NetherlandsThe bed could be cleaner.
The guy who stayed at the house was very friendly. He helped me with everything. You can also rent a scooter for 60k a day. And they will help you with transport from Cijulang to Batukaras. It's great because the apps don't work in this area. So it was all good, but basic. I loved the shower, it was almost in the jungle, with sunshines on your face while showering. Toilet was ok. I think the bed was a bit old. Linnen were clean but matras felt dirty. If you like to surf, a good surf spot is just 20 meters walk so that's great.
