Singapore- While the booking was made via booking.com platform and payment to be made directly at the hotel (with one night prepayment prior to stay), the hotel was not able to deduct the amount directly via booking.com site and has had to keep requesting details for payment via messaging platforms. This is not ideal and for me and it poses data privacy and security risk and concern. They were flexible enough though, to request for photo of my passport to secure the booking ahead of the stay. - Location is far away from all the main stretch of cafes so maybe a shuttle service would be useful to have, otherwise it would be great to have a paid short distance transport option - I know this is part of the experience in Kintamani, but maybe if the hotel has some ways to block out/ remove the flies that got into the room that would be even better!
- The service staff are very attentive and thoughtful. - There are beautiful view of the volcanoes that you can enjoy from the pool and restaurant areas. - The food is really good at the restaurants (but less so for the pool bar) - It is not crowded and is cosy and intimate - Beautifully designed hotel - Excellent on-site massage and spa (and probably the only decent one in Kintamani)

United KingdomWe had just stayed in The Tiing in Tejakula - a sister hotel - and booked Desa Oculus hoping our experience would be just as exceptional but sadly, Desa Oculus left much to be desired by comparison. The breakfast included in the price of the room was average and scarce and the food offering for lunch and dinner - although more fine and more extensive - was underwhelming. The overall customer service at The Tiing was unparalleled compared to Desa Oculus - though staff were hospitable, they were not as welcoming and forthcoming and did not add to our experience as much as the staff at The Tiing did. There are many lessons Desa Oculus can learn from The Tiing! Apart from that, the hot springs bath tub is placed on the balcony, with little to no privacy. We were also told that had we opted for a hot spring bath, we would not have sufficient hot water for a shower afterwards, which meant we chose the shower over the bath.
The resort is iconic, definitely designed and built to wow guests. We stumbled across it on our drive to Tejakula when we stopped for food and decided to book a room for a night on our way back. It’s located in the scenic Kintamani region, with spectacular views of the lakes and volcanoes from the rooftop shown in the key picture on Booking. The room was decently sized but came with a massive and really comfortable bed, a balcony with a tub that could be filled with hot springs water, and a spacious, really chic bathroom.
