Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeNothing much.
The padi field view was fabulous. The 10m pool is large and good for swimming and sun tanning. The living and dining area and the lounge area at the porch was very spacious and comfortable. Location is not too far from Ubud Centre for shopping, restaurants and bars. The host/owner is very kind, helpful and attentive to our needs. Definitely a great place to chill, relax and connect with family members and friends. We will return again for sure.

NetherlandsThere is so much to enjoying in the villa, wish we could have booked more nights.
This is the best place we have ever stayed, definitely a 10 plus! Service is the best we ever had! Nagkan and his staff are very attentive and helpful. Anything you need, Nagkan is just a message away, restaurant, ATM, he will take you anywhere and pick you up whenever you are ready. He helped arranging the massage in the villa which was so relaxing. Nagkan has more than 50 years of experience in tourism and knows the best places to go around Ubud and have given us a great tour around Ubud. Nagkan’s wife cooked a great dinner for us for the last night at the villa, it was so yummy! The Villa is very beautiful, even more than the photos, as all those thoughtful details you cannot capture in a pictures. There are various spots you can sit and enjoy the beautiful rice fields, the sun bed, lounge chairs, fish pound. The location of the villa is perfect for us, it is in the middle of the peaceful rice field and just 15 minutes away from Ubud downtown. There is a small shop/snack bar just next to the villa with good set menus starting 40K IDR. You do hear the traffic as it is close to the main road, however it was quiet during the night so I have no problem sleeping through the night.

CanadaNothing.
Our stay at Ngakan’s villa was perfection. It was the best accommodation experience we have ever had. The villa was beautifully built and decorated. The infinity pool was most amazing with an outdoor shower to wash up. The beds are super comfortable. Finally, the view of the rice fields was unforgettable. Ngakan and his team took care of us the whole time. They drove us around to tour different sites and took us into town to have dinners. Ngakan even invited us to participate in the Galungan procession which was the most special experience. We are definitely going back to stay at the Joglo next time we are in Bali.

AustraliaThe traditionally steep stairs may present accessibility challenges for guests with limited mobility, although we found this feature to be part of the villa's authentic charm.
On our first trip to Bali, we had various accommodation options—luxury villas, eco-resorts, hotels—but choosing The Joglo at Umah Sunset, a traditional Joglo-style Balinese villa, proved to be an unparalleled experience. Situated a mere 15 minute taxi drive from Ubud's bustling center, the villa serves as a sanctuary of tranquility and natural beauty. As you enter the property, a lamp-lit walkway along the edge of a rice field, you are led through a gate into a hidden world. Upon crossing a bridge over an entry pond filled with koi, double doors open into an expansive open-plan living space with a full kitchen. This area transitions seamlessly into an indoor/outdoor dining space and daybed, then steps down again into gardens framed by solid timber columns supporting high ceilings and adorned with ornate timber furniture. The experience offers a genuine journey into both Balinese culture and architecture. The villa further steps down, extending to an infinity pool, encircled by loungers and a corner daybed—which temporarily served as my office—offering yet another perspective of the expansive rice fields. It felt as though we were on a seaside property, gazing out over an ocean of rustling green rice stalks. We even spotted fireflies on two separate nights, hovering just an arm's length from the pool's edge. Truly magical. Every detail at the villa is meticulously managed. Our mornings began with tropical fruits and home-cooked breakfasts. The host, Ngakan, and his staff are attentive to every detail, ensuring a perfect blend of professionalism and personalized service that makes you feel both at home and in luxury. In summary, this hidden gem is not just accommodation; it's a holistic experience that melds luxury, comfort, and authentic immersion into Balinese culture. Our sole regret is not extending our stay to fully absorb the breathtaking views, the peaceful ambiance, and the enriching architectural experience.

United KingdomNothing - all good.
What an amazing place. Communication good prior to arrival. Our host picked us up in Ubud to transfer to the accommodation. The location is a little out of Ubud but a taxi or the owner will have you there in 15-20 minutes. Downstairs is open plan with kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and these extend in the garden/pool area with daybeds and loungers around an infinity pool overlooking the rice paddies. Upstairs is an open balcony and two bedrooms with AC. The whole place is equipped fantastically and beautifully furnished to a very high standard. Much of the furniture and furnishings are teak wood. There is a koi pond and food to feed the fish. Water features mean beautiful background noise. The whole place was very clean and everything worked. We were very happy with breakfast and had a meal cooked in the accommodation by the host for 300K Rupiah/2. The host arranged a massage for 2 in the accommodation. We were really happy with our choice and would definitely recommend and stay again.

The view was just something else! To be honest it was very hard to leave the joglo for tours as we just wanted to sit and stare at the amazing view we had. The staff has been absolutely amazing! United StatesThe only thing we weren't too prepared for was the insects, geckos, etc but otherwise was amazing!
The location was located beautiful in the outskirts of ubud but not too far from Central. The host was really helpful and kind throughout our entire stay at the villa. 100% would recommend to anyone visiting Ubud! If you need anything, just let the Host know and he'll be sure to sort you out and provide whatever you're looking for! 👍🏻

TaiwanI’ve been to Bali many times; stayed in all sorts of properties from high-end, boutique, eco-friendly/green, private villa, but Joglo Umah Sunset gives me the most goosebumps that I knew this is the ideal idyllic life style and environment that I want to be in. You will find all the elements meeting almost every 5-star hotel management standard but you have this privacy and home feeling — the vast rice fields and gorgeous view from every angle in this property. The “built” is genius — tasteful decoration, wood carvings, clean yet human touch. Ngakan family runs and treats this place like their own home and I really respect their way of hospitality to their guests. They’ve done a lot of things that I’m really touched. p.s. Make sure you get the omelet on your breakfast menu - the homey recipe is even better than restaurants. Make sure you nestle or meditate on the pavilion day bed feeling the vibration from your surroundings and the Qi. Ubud is always my Bali to-go destination, and now I’m adding this place to my go-to destination too.
