Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesOne of the most expensive hostels I've stayed in over a few months in Europe. I guess that's just the real exposure to Irish issues/the housing crisis...!
Often compared to Sheila's (by other hostel-goers as well as locals) - worth the slight hike in price, it seems, because Bru is known to be very clean; and, relative to Sheila's, I appreciate the smaller bunk numbers (eg 4-bunk dorms being available). Bru's has *the* best location in Cork. If you tell locals where it is, they'll say you're in the best place for a visit - walking distance to countless bars, pubs, and diners. The connected bar downstairs is something like 70% locals and 30% tourists, which is amazing since it's oftentimes difficult to meet locals in hostels.

South AfricaIt is a bit noisy in the early morning when dirt and glass bottle collection comes. The window doesn't seal properly and I don't think it's double-glazed. Heating only goes on late in the night so it's cold around 7pm-10pm. It's a bit basic for a double room; there isn't even a hand towel. It's more like a dorm room that's just for people who know each other. Also staff came in, knocked some things over and left the window open when we were told they wouldn't clean that day.
Good location walking distance from bus station. Enough breakfast options

IrelandWindow taped with duck tape at a drafty point. There is no hot water in the bathroom, which is freezing. Booked a second time in case it was a once off but disappointed there was still no hot water in the bathroom, really cold water instead. 🥶
Clean, warm room with lockable trolleys under the bed. Charging point and light for each bunk. Good music and service in the bar downstairs.

IrelandBuilding is not soundproof. Too noisy from the fan outside the room. Even when the boiler topping up water, you can hear clearly in the middle of the night. The bed is a bit hard. Check out this review of Brú Hostel on Google Maps https://goo.gl/maps/MJCKHP5rTvzjeAnr7

IrelandBetween the loud live music downstairs, the chatting at 1am of fellow residents in the room and then 6 hours of bone shaking snoring from a fellow resident made it impossible to sleep for more than 5 minutes over the course of the night. Maybe warning guests that the hostel is used as temporary accommodation could prepare people for where they will be staying.

United KingdomThere should be more information that there's only stairs to the rooms. No towels provided. There was roadworks on the street when we arrived which went on all night and not advised about this so was very noisy. Other guests can be very inconsiderate to others, both nights we had people chatting outside our room and having parties & slamming doors. This went on from 3am until about 5am. You could hear everything through the walls
Great value for money. Location is great near the bus & train station, lots of bars/restaurants on your doorstep. just across the river from shopping. Room was small but clean, mattresses are hard but didn't bother us. Light breakfast being included in handy, free tea/coffee, toast and cereal.

AustraliaThe room was quite small and the beds were uncomfortable. At night it got very noisy from both the bar downstairs and also extremely loud guests in other rooms. You could hear everything through the walls of the hostel.
