Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

IndiaThe Haveli is located inside the innermost ring of the Jaisalmer fort. The Taxi / Auto stop at the second gate. From there one has to WALK to the Haveli. Of course the hotel will ferry your luggage on two-wheelers. But Taxi will Not drop you to the hotel door. Expect 5-10 minutes of walking to reach the hotel.
We had booked a suite and the room was actually and truly a suite. There was a wide corridor leading to a spacious seating/dining area which opened into a large bedroom. The Haveli window opens directly to the highest rampart of the fort. So our bedroom itself was a view point!!!!! The open courtyard and the intricately carved windows and doors really take you back in time. We loved the complimentary HERITAGE WALK, learnt many interesting / unheard of stories that are not in the pages of travel magazines. Like the Unique Wedding Invitations of Jaisalmer and the Unfinished Memorials of the Kings and the Relocated JAIN Temple. The hotel also organized a DESERT SAFARI. We were told that we would be taken to a unique spot NOT frequented by other tourists. We thought it was 'marketing talk'. But the spot where we were taken to (On Camels) was actually a very beautiful and secluded spot. The Sky was so close and soooo clear. It was almost like watching the dome of a Planetarium. My daughter loved it.

United StatesLovely old Haveli in the Fort. The family is very welcoming and understandably proud of their history and heritage. The walking tour was very informative. The front rooms are more atmospheric than the back rooms, but all are spacious and well kept. The “nooks” were spectacular for watching the sunrise/sunset and viewing the chain temples. We booked a camel tour through their recommended guide which we enjoyed.

GermanyBathroom could be problematic for older or disabled persons.
The building is amazing (500 years old, breathtaking history). Family lives in the house (a real home stay) and tries everything to make one feel good. Breakfast on the rooftop of the house next door with a wonderful view of the Jain temples. The rooms/suites are so special (beautifully carved stone).

If you’re after a heritage property with no frills thus us your place. Our train was delayed and arrived at 1 am but the hotel had arranged transport for us from the station & we were welcomed even at that time. The room looked palatial, well decorated & a view onto the street. There was no aircon but this was as advertised & the fan was more than sufficient while we were there. We stayed over the Holi festival & enjoyed the celebrations with the family on the Thursday night. They also advised us on the day itself. We had a complementary tour of the fort which was fab. Each time we arrived back at the hotel we were welcomed as if we were part of the family. Great stay & would recommend.

FranceThere was nothing we didn’t like. The facilities were fine but the house is historic and the facilities had to fit within its architecture
The care, the welcome and the warmth of the hospitality of the family, especially Shubham and Gokul, were simply incredible. We were given a free walking tour of the city by Shubham, who told us of its history, its religion and its special places. We were only there four days but at the end we felt like members of their family. And they were all so cheerful! The haveli is an amazing 16th century house and our bedroom, with its stone carvings and sculpted niches, took us back all that time

United KingdomFabulous ancient house, built into the fabric of the fort. Stunning stonework, some of it 500 years old. Huge room, quirky, as in having stone columns at the end of my bed, but very clean and comfortable too. Host was amazing, and full of interesting information about his family home from hundreds of years. Also about the town. Great breakfasts on the roof overlooking the Jain temples. Wished we could have stayed much longer. If you have the opportunity to stay here, do so!

United KingdomLiving within the walls of this stunning fort meant that there was late night and early morning noise from the locals. Absolutely to be expected.
We loved staying within the old fort. Our host was kind and attentive and his love and passion for his place of birth was great to see. He took us on a tour of the fort which was interesting and informative. Breakfast in the rooftop was very tasty and our room was a delightful piece of history.

CanadaNo romantic dinners available on the rooftop! The cook, Shubham's sister-in-law, was away in Jodhpur during our stay, having recently given birth to the beginning of the 19th generation of the family to live in this 500 year old haveli. Instead, we ate 2 nights at the Sun Set Palace restaurant, 2 minute walk, decent food and prices with a stunning sunset view.
Our 3 nights in the Junior Suite were just right for us == we liked both its size and its simple historic elegance. Shubham was an excellent host: always providing just the right amount of help when needed. Excellent English, always positive, professional, knowledgable, friendly, kind, with a sense of humour. He even helped us with our shopping and gave a very interesting tour. Breakfasts on the roof were great, as were Shubham's suggestions of restaurants for dinner in their own cook;s absence.

This hotel is the perfect stay, we could not fault a single thing. The check in process, our stay and even the care after our stay were all beyond what we have experienced elsewhere or have expected. The family are exceptionally kind and welcoming, and our stay here made the perfect end to our trip. Highly recommend!

New ZealandWe felt like we were staying in a living museum, a magnificent piece of history. Not only is this 499 year old haveli in almost original condition, but to hear the stories from Shubham really brought it to light. Shubham was one of the kindest people we have met during our 3 weeks in India, and he took us on a free 2-hour tour of the fort that was simply fascinating. We could have kept going for hours, it brought the whole fort to life. He is clearly passionate about Jaisalmer's rich heritage, keen to welcome visitors, and willing to share tales of the city with anyone interested. Our stay was truly memorable and we highly recommend.

United KingdomWith no glass in the windows it was quite noisy, but that's true of many places in the city and so earplugs are essential!
The hotel is amazing, some 500 years old and the room was fabulous, like sleeping in a museum! The family running the hotel were so friendly and really looked after us well, including a walking tour of the fort.

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn't like about our stay at Hotel Suraj, other than that it had to end.
Hotel Suraj is much more than a hotel and has been the most amazing place we have ever stayed on holiday. Shubham, his family and colleagues made us feel an extended part of the family and would constantly go out of their way to make our stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Their haveli, where we stayed, is a spectacular home with fabulous rooms. We would recommend anyone going to India to visit Jaisalmer and, if possible, to stay at Hotel Suraj. Our genuine thanks to all at Hotel Suraj for making our stay so wonderful.

SpainI LOVED this hotel. It's run by a family who actually lives on site. You can go across the street to have your meals on the rooftop they also own which is directly overlooking one of the 9 Jain temples in old town. Dinner is cooked by the mother and is the best food I've had in my entire trip. Everybody is so nice and kind. The son went out of his way to print my travel documents ahead of my flight. He helped with all the questions we had and offered a free guided tour of old town. You could tell this family cared about the history of their city. Really awesome. And the King room....Quite the experience to stay in this massive 500 year old space willed with columns and old flower paintings everywhere. Really wow!

IndiaStaying at Hotel Suraj was honestly one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Jaisalmer. It felt like stepping back in time and becoming a Maharaja! The room was by far the most beautiful I have ever stayed in, with its stunning traditional architecture and authentic haveli charm. The hospitality was exceptional. The people here were sweet, and genuinely helpful. It felt more like staying in a home than a hotel, with personalized attention and a sense of warmth that made the experience unforgettable. If you’re looking for a place that offers a blend of history, beauty, and heartfelt hospitality, Hotel Suraj is a must stay!
