Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwitzerlandSuper friendly hosts. They warmly welcomed us and took their time to socialise with the guests. As both hosts being locals, they could tell us a lot about the living in Iceland. In the morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with local products and even homemade bread. The room and the gigantic bathroom were spotless.

United StatesOf course a private bath is preferred but mine was adjacent so no real bother.
Enchanted home with all the amenities of robe, toiletries, and decor. Inviting hosts for evening snack and an elegant brunch better than any restaurant with the chef’s special touches. So close a drive to Akureyri yet away from the city in a lovely sea area. Don’t miss the fun Christmas House nearby as recommended by the hostess. The Guesthouse is the best way to have a chance to meet locals for a chat. Thank you for your hospitality!

CanadaWe loved our stay and I wish it was longer than two days. Hrefna and Árni made our stay feel like home and took care of everything during our stay. The breakfast was one of the best we ever had and the property looked like it was taken from a magazine. :)

AustraliaSlightly out of town. Our room was tiny and the squeaky floor meant we could hear every step of the people staying next door. I think that the room that we had was overpriced.
The guesthouse is beautifully decorated and has a homely feel to it. Everything is extremely clean and the bathroom is huge. We had to leave very early in the morning which meant skipping breakfast but the host allowed us to make a sandwich to take away.

SwedenThis is one of the best places I have every stayed in on all my travels around the world. The host couple was warm and welcoming and made it feel like you came home every day after long days of hiking. The house is beautifully decorated with every little attention to detail. It manages to capture a balance between homely and cozy and on the seem time feel like staying in a five star hotel. Worth every penny and if we ever return to northern Iceland we do not want to stay anywhere else other than here! The breakfast was amazing and we also got to try out the hot tub after a long day of hiking which was heavenly.

FranceThis is more than a BnB - this is a personal Icelandic experience! Ásar Guesthouse is one of the best place we've ever stayed at. It features a relaxing & welcoming atmosphere, great homemade breakfast, and an outdoor hot tub with views over the mountains. What really makes this place unique is the hosts; as they join their guests for breakfast by the big kitchen table they make everyone feel welcomed to their home. It's worth going to Northern Iceland just to stay at Ásar Guesthouse!

BelgiumWe had such a great time and good feelings at Asar Guesthouse that I don't know where to start. I wish we never had to leave that magical place and our kind hosts. We arrived quite late (around 9 pm) and were warmly welcomed at the door. We then discovered the beautiful house and we got offered to enjoy the hot tub, some tea and homemade cake. And that was just the beginning. Every detail is paid attention to: from recyclable make-up remover pads to local honey with our tea. We had wardrobes, sleeping masks... And did I mention the decoration? Every piece of furniture and decoration in the house is chosen and arranged to the best of tastes. I loved everything about this house which has such good vibes. Breakfast was by far the best we had: extremely generous and diverse (from typical lamb salad to homemade cake, fruits, homemade granola, freshly baked bread, homemade jam...). I also appreciate that the hosts favour local producers. Our hosts were extremely friendly, kind and helpful. Thank you so much for making our (way too short) stay such an amazing experience!

FinlandThere was nothing that I didn’t like.
Peaceful and cozy atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious and beautifully served! Located close to Akureyri so there is plenty to see nearby and if you want relax in the hot tub after a busy day, they will be happy to prepare it for you. We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived until it was time to say “See you next time!”.

FranceHrefna has nailed hospitality. We had a wonderful stay and I can't thank our hosts enough. We feel so lucky to have met this fantastic couple and to have shared some time in their house where we felt at home and genuinely welcomed. The breakfasts are the best we have had anywhere, and surpass even a chic hotel in the capital by far. Dietary requirements? Just ask. Hrefna adapted her signature breakfast dish as soon as she found out my husband was limiting his sugar intake because I hadn't said before arrival. But the choice is vast and varied -and beautifully presented - so most people should be more than happy. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. The shared bathroom was never a problem - and always clean. The hot-tub was a plus - when they persuaded us to use it for our well-being. It was so relaxing and the view amazing. You can feel the love that Hrefna puts into her business, and her desire to engage and exchange with her guests. But if you prefer to be left alone she adapts to everybody's wishes. An art that not many have mastered. Ásar Guesthouse is exceptional and very worthy if its 10.

United KingdomThat it is not closer not closer to our own home!
The property was beautiful. It was in a lovely location and the building itself was gorgeous inside and out. The hosts were two of the most lovely people I have ever met, and welcomed us into their home and made us feel like family. We all ate together (but it was made clear that we could have eaten alone if we preferred) and were served delicious food. We spent hours swapping stories and chatting (again, our choice. Our room was totally private and we could have just retired there for the night if we were tired). There was also a hot tub out back that the hosts filled it for us and even brought out drinks while we were in it. The house was spotlessly clean as well, which added to our comfort. The showers had great water pressure and were lovely and hot (powered by geothermal water!) A fantastic place to stay that we will recommend to everyone.

The hosts are great, open to talk and tell u about iceland. The hot tub with the view was great. This was the only guesthouse where I could discuss for hours with Icelanders.
