Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

As one would expect in a mobile home, the bedrooms are small. There is a storage space for empty cases though and hanging/shelf space to unload onto, so we were very comfortable despite the tight space round the bed
Beautiful, peaceful location. The mobile home had everything we needed and was comfortable and warm. The owner came out to greet us and was very welcoming

Our stay surpassed expectations. It was cold and rainy when we arrived and this cabin provided us with a cozy stay. The hot tub was a welcome treat! The gas fireplace was so cozy on this rainy night. After a dip in the hot tub we sat by the fire. The rooms are small but perfect for what we needed. Spotlessly clean. Our most comfortable night stay in Iceland. In the morning the owners dogs visited us for some fetch. I can’t say enough good things. We left with fond memories.

The cottage is located some 20 km from the nearest town (Hofn) and away from major tourist attractions, a few km from N1 ring road. We used it as a stopover on a tour of Iceland. It is a bit smaller than some other houses we rented, with a narrow corridor between bedrooms and baathroom, though it was not a major issue.
The house was generally fine, with a large living room, well-equipped kitchen, convenient bedrooms and nice views. A major advantage is a "hottub" for 4 persons with water at 40 degrees Celsius ready to be used on arrival. We genuinely enjoyed it. The locality is very quiet, just a few houses and a farm, with a view on a glacier.

The only minor issue is that the hallway to the rooms is pretty narrow and you have to walk a bit to your car, but its on artificial grass and super easy to walk and or roll your suitcases. And its not thát far (maybe 15 meters).
This was our best stay during our roundtrip. The owner had prepared the hottub for us upon arrival. All is nice and tidy but the hallway is a bit narrow and some door is missing but not an essential door. But its minor detail. We got all we need, kitchen is nicely equiped and it was nicely decorated including some warm blankets if you want to dwell outside on private terrace to see auroras (for us too late in the season) and the hottub is easy to reach from inside as well. Sad we only stayed one night however. I definitely would consider to return.

I only spent one night at Birkifell and in all honesty it was not enough. Birkifell is 100% pure charm and comfort. The cabin is small but comfortable and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was pretty much perfect. Coffee machine with coffee, stovetop, oven and microwave, fridge/freezer, cutlery, crockery and cookware. The beds are so comfortable and warm. I slept amazingly well. And now what is truly wow. Hot tub on the verandah with clear, unobstructed views of the sky which was crystal clear. The hot tub was hot, comfortable and clean. The only sound to be heard was me. I have never experienced such quiet and stillness before. It was invigorating. I was sad to have to leave Birkifell but when I come back to Iceland, Birkifell will be my must stay again. I love everything about Birkifell.

We didn't realise that the house is a trailer so the small size of the bedrooms was also a surprise. The house was okay but the price seemed way too steep.
Hot tub was ready to use and the owner was friendly. Our kids loved playing with the owners' dogs.
