Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Very lovely guys running the guesthouse. Very helpful, friendly and nice to talk to. Rooms are well equipped and the price is very fair. I will definitely be coming back.

We stayed at Eric the Red 3 different times on our trip in 3 different rooms. There was some street noise in one of the rooms we stayed in. It wasn’t bad but I was aware of it. It wouldn’t stop me from staying in that room again.
The property was centrally located right across from the church and very close to the bus station. The owners were very nice and great with directions and recommendations. They were also very helpful with our luggage; letting us store it between trips and bringing it up and down the stairs.

I wish they had a bit more for breakfast, including alternatives to dairy milk like Oat or Soy milk for morning tea and coffee.
The location was perfect; the owners were as nice and friendly and helpful as they could be. Really appreciated the converters in the rooms.

Hard to get luggage up & down stairs, but nothing to be done in an old house.
Loved the mix of contemporary & old family furniture, charm, paintings. We’ll stocked kitchen with great snacks and plenty of room.

Really good place to stay. First of all - location. Secondly - value for money. It is not super modern, but very clean and well equipped. Hosts are super friendly and check-in was more than easy. There is shared kitchen with coffee and tea. I heartily recommend :)

Absolutely loved staying here. I felt like part of the family and there was always someone nearby to give me advice and recommendations. Comfy beds, spacious room. Clean and well organised kitchen. I wish that I had booked accommodation here for my entire stay in Reykjavik from the beginning. Unfortunately I only found it for the last few days of my trip. I will definitely stay here again and reccommend Eric the Red Guesthouse to anybody looking for clean, spacious rooms with a homely family atmosphere.

Only drawback was a loose WC..! Fasten that with some strong glue, and hey presto, no complaints😎

I stayed for one night with my mom. The owners were so warm and friendly. We had a bit of a hectic day driving around with my grandparents and bringing them to the airport, but having this accomodation made it much easier. The owner helped move our luggage in and out of the car today and yesterday, plus gave us the room earlier than check-in because it was already cleaned when we arrived just to drop off luggage. The place was beautiful and had so many great books to read :). I could imagine really enjoying staying there in the winter.
