Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe booked this because the apartment looked amazing and it didn't disappoint. We dreamed we would see the northern lights and watch whales in the nearby fjord from the hot tub. Dreams do come true... We were treated to an amazing display of aurora borialis from the panoramic rooftop terrace. And sat having a few beers in the hottub, listening to music watching whales 🐋 swim by will take some beating. One of the highlights of our week long ring road trip. If you're reading this book it! I can't add enough photos, so go see for yourself.

United StatesWhat did I like about this stay? EVERYTHING!! Perfect Score 10. We stayed at numerous hotels during our two weeks in and around Iceland, and I would rate this stay as one of the best, if not the best. Incredible LARGE rooms, exceptional cleanliness, QUIET = great night sleep, great breakfast, and everyone associated with the property was friendly and personable. Hotel is also well decorated, great lighting, and windows for wonderful views. Thanks!!!

United StatesAlthough it was a very nice small hotel, it was quite expensivre. If I visited the area again, I would try to find a less expensive place.
Hotel Hjalteyri was spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The view was lovely, and it was just a short drive to Akureyi where it was easy to find restaurants and grocery stores. There was only one restaurant in the immediate ares, but we didn't eat there and can't comment.

New ZealandThe bathroom was too small, especially the basin top.
The architecture and decor of the hotel were wonderful. The hotel is really a gallery of Icelandic art and style. We had three nights there - not long enough!

United StatesNothing.
This is by-far the best hotel we stayed in Iceland. We enjoyed the location and the facility that much, we ended up staying for breakfast. Breakfast was excellent with pancake on that day. This is like a 5-star hotel, with huge room, a separate bedroom with kingsize bed, a living room with smartTV, kitchenette with full amenities, and huge bathroom. The bed is very comfortable, the internet is strong where we can stream online movies. We love the artworks inside the building throughout. The view of the snowy mountain and water view were great! Love to stay here for more days.

United StatesWe were in a one bedroom apartment. Rooms are huge and the whole building has an airy white modern feel. Basics in the kitchenette, we did not find salt and pepper, but otherwise you get plenty functional utensils pots and pans. Beds are very comfy and the bathroom is huge. Everything is spotless, smells nice and looks brand new. Not one flaw. Morning cappuccino was delicious. Location is beautiful and the collection cars in the back yard adds to the luxury feel. Although I do not know why the school closed in the 80s, spending a night in this place is truly a special experience, happy that the school was given a new purpose and it is so nicely maintained. Such a bang for the buck! This was probably the best place we stayed in Iceland and one of the best we ever stayed in through our travels in years!

AustraliaThe old school now, a beautifully renovated hotel, is such a pleasure to stay in. It is unlike any other hotel in that it's an art gallery displaying the owners extensive collection of icelandic art. The rooms are comfortable, with plenty of space, stylishly decorated, and views over the lake. The beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is adequate. There is also a collection of old cars.displayed.we loved this location out of the hassle and bustle of Akureyri. Down in the small village below is Eyri, a very nice restaurant well recommended.

United StatesIt would be even better if the breakfast is included.
This is the best hotels we stayed in Iceland for our 10 days ring road trip. This hotel is very clean, the room is very spacious, and it was so quiet. The proper is like a little museum with a lot of nice paintings around the hallways and inside rooms. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite, which comes with a large living room and very large kitchen (even though we did not use the kitchen). It is really a home away from home. The staff is also very nice and friendly.

CanadaThe unit was quite warm on arrival, so we turned the heat off and opened the windows to cool it down. It was warm through the night and it affected our sleep.
What a beautiful hotel and apartment it is! It oozes with class and we loved the art in the hallways. It was exceptional value. We loved it. We skipped the breakfast as we made an early start. We used the kitchenette.

CanadaOnly the weather - lol. We enjoyed everything else immensely. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this property for couples.
Driving in the grounds were really well kept - the property did not look like anything we expected. The interior is gorgeous. Quiet sitting, reading, spots. Luxurious feel to the spaces using lighting, fantastic artwork and beautiful books. The views out front were wonderful. Living Area was so comfortable and inviting. Kitchenette had everything needed. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was a delightful getaway in itself.
