Little too noisy when it comes to bedtime, as we were 6 people in the room windows need to be opened and there was some music evening going on. Also a few hairdryers in ladies showers would be really appreciated.

The atmosphere in KEX is really cool.

In the 42-bed room, the rooms had walls dividing every 2 rows so it didn't feel like there were that many people. Best hostel to stay in!

I think the bed was comfy for a few days. But I stayed for about 2 weeks, and after a while I noticed how soft the bed was. I prefer a firmer bed. I do think that kex could get a bit loud. I recommend bringing high quality ear plugs and eye masks. In some of the dorm rooms there are people that may snore a bit.

I loved the staff at Kex. They were very friendly and helpful with my questions. I also enjoyed the breakfast spread in the morning, for a small fee you could enjoy rye bread with jams and butter. Also the pizza and beer were excellent and made fresh. The environment at Kex was excellent it had a lot of fun spaces and was wonderful for solo travelers to meet others. I also enjoyed the concerts and live music on the weekends! super great environment.

This place is okay, i stayed in the 42 bed dorm and the room has no ventilation, so it was very hot and dank. The floors were also very dirty.

The location is nice and is definitely the place to be if you want to be social/party. It is pretty loud and busy all night.

The kitchen is dark and could use at least one other cooking surface. The beds are really noisy. There's a lot of people in the big dorm so constant ins and outs.

The staff was really nice and helpful. Comfy beds. The breakfast is pretty good for the price considering everything so expensive in Reykjavik.

But the hall of bedrooms at third floor smells too much of food. Fair bathroom cleanning. I have to say that the entrance Hostel doesn't do it justice.

I liked the most the silence of the place and respectful roommates. I loved the location. There's a common terrace and a bar that's cool!

We were on the top floor with heavy luggage, so an elevator would've been great. I understand this is a structural situation and maybe we should've packed lighter.

Great location with a beautiful view of the bay. The room was quite large for a central Reykjavik location. The bathrooms were pretty clean for such a large hostel.

Everything is OLD, not vintage but old. Noisy tweens made sleeping impossible. I’ve slept in better pillows in 20$ hotels. I feel ripped off.

Some of the staff lack discretion and professionalism. I was propositioned for sex and shamed when I refused to sleep with a friend of the staff members. Apparently the friend of the man at front desk allegedly received a "warning" about me, from the hostel personnel. If I pay to stay at an establishment, I expect the staff to have a modicum of discretion. I did not harm anyone. The behavior of this man at front desk was nasty nice. The situation was painful and quite odd. I have been to many different hostels and hotels through Booking.com. This is the first time I have experienced this.. Most of us are far from home. Dealing with many difficult situations in our lives. We are allowed to make mistakes and know that the hard earned money we invest at these establishments are respected and appreciated.

This location is perfect to meet friends and is located near the bus station and other landmarks.

For me it was perfect because it's cheap (compared to other accomodations in Reykjavík), it's located directly in the city center and the bus stop isn't far away. It's also clean, which is always one of the most important points for me. I would definitely stay there again, if I come back to Reykjavík!

bad wifi that doesn’t reach all the rooms, squeaky beds, they kick you out of the main lobby after 11pm/12am which is incredibly unfair to people who stay here, facilities could be much better

fun bar , cheaper drinks and food than most places, relatively cheap stay

Overpriced, dirty/stinky, worn out and with sub par service.
    • Leisure trip
    • Group
    • Family Room
    • Stayed 1 night

Room 310 and 311 (Family Suites) have hot water pipes not insulated running through the rooms, making the room temperature extremely HOT even on a cold Icelandic summer day of 5 degrees celsius outside with the windows wide open. The room was fine, although the shared bathrooms reeked sewage, and the sink would back up easily. In addition, the public furniture needed significant repair, the sofas were so worn out in longe areas that the wooden frame was showing through! In addition, they had filled the depression from overuse on the sofa with a random old towel or something, it was not pleasant. Further, the lady at the front desk could use a lesson in being polite to guests - greeting them with "Yes" on arrival isn't exactly welcoming. At the price that KEX charges and with the lack of maintenance, this Hostel seems like a great cash cow for someone who doesn't care about the property much at all. Not to mention, they also have signage asking you to strip your bed after paying such a large sum of money to stay. I would recommend the HI Property in Reykjavik for a similar price, and better quality stay.

The location is great, and the Hostel has the potential to be a nice quality, basic accommodation with character, but it is just not there yet. I love the look and feel they are going for, but it needs basic upgrades to become reasonably comfortable for guests.

Incredibly noisy. Bar supposedly closes at 11, but from 11 the music only got louder and it kept going until almost 2 in the morning. Impossible to sleep even with earplugs. I was happy to stay in a hostel with a party until 11 but 2am is another story!! The beds were creaking badly every time someone moved in them so I'll let you imagine the chorus in a shared dormitory... Some bathrooms were very dirty and didn't get cleaned for 2 days. Thankfully some of them were ok and the room seemed super clean.

Very cool vibe inside the building both in the bar and the rooms corridors with great couches to lounge on and cool decorations. Some bathrooms are individual for maximum privacy
