Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

- a bit pricey for a room without bathroom but still we felt lucky to even get one room in this area - we found that the kitchen was quite busy in the morning although it is actually quite spacious. Maybe avoid to use it between 7-8am as everyone would be getting ready for the day
- Top Location close to the black beach and sounded by beautiful nature - the hostel has a very modern Nordic style everywhere

All sink dimensions are really tiny. Some areation should be added to the dormitory to avoid to keep the window opened all the night that risks to freeze the people too close to it.
In this hostel you can find anything you need: large and equipped kitchen, several bathrooms and showers, places to socialize. Staff is kind and helpful, and the price is lower than similar solutions in the same zone.

It has a kitchen equipped with all the tools you need, making it convenient if you want to cook your own food. The bathroom is also nice and clean.

View was limited and it is great place to crash for one night
great ambience just like other hostels, great parking, food facility, dining area, kitchen facility, etc. Bathroom and restrooms were great. Very very close to Black sand beach and town was a big bonus

The happy hour drinks were amazing and the view from the room was superb—no need to TV! We had an amazing window we here you could see the clavier, mountains and the beach all at once

The rooms were good and clean, the shared kitchen was very well equipped and large enough to host all guests. The bar and launche are was good. The shared toilets and shower area was good en clean.

The rooms are not super spacious, but not too small either. A bit bigger would be interesting, especially for families.
The Barn is a beautiful hostel and the perfect place/ base for your visit to Southern Iceland. We stayed for three nights with our 3-year-old son, which was an adventure at itself, but definitely made easier by our stay here. The hostel environment, while still having the opportunity to book a private room is fantastic. Our son enjoyed the company of several other kids, which made it a bit more relaxed for us. We had a nice stay at the Barn, a beautifully decorated hostel with a very warm atmosphere.

The hostel room was extremely small for 12 people. We couldn't even fit our luggage there. It is quite expensive for what it is. But there aren't that many places to stay around, so you can't really choose.
The facilities, kitchen, bar, location, cleaniness all are excellent.

The location was perfect to visit Dyrholaey and Reynisfjara, also very close to Vik. The bed was comfortable and the room was big enough to fit even our four suitcases. The kitchen and breakfast area was wonderful. We would definitely stay again!

My hot water ran out and couldn’t shower but they were very nice and gave us free breakfast. The breakfast was great. I showered in the morning with hot water
This is a luxury hostel. With a bar and great facilities.

Kitchen doesn’t have a great ventilation system, can be quite stuffy inside

There was a huge group of guest who were loud during the night. Glad the rooms were well insulated and the doors to the double rooms blocked out most of the sound.
