Just stayed for 2 nights at this great property in Matera. The location was perfect, patio is a great suntrap. The room is lovely, breakfast good, beautifully clean, bed super comfy. Guiseppe is amazingly helpful and great communication throughout. We drove from Bari, carpark €5 a day and shuttle or easy walk to property. We really loved our 2 night stay, perfect amount of time. Take comfy shoes!!

Outstanding interior design: just enough to have all the modern comforts but respectful to the location and surroundings. Clean throughout. Although we only stayed 1 night the host wanted us to make the most of the visit in Matera. Had an amazing sleep. Very quiet, although in close proximity of fabulous restaurants and landmarks. We want to go back at some point and hopefully stay here for a few nights.

Lovely room in the old city. Convenient to everything and easily accessed. Lavish breakfast foods regularly replenished - juice, fruit juice, yoghurt, array of fruits and breads, salami, cream cheese etc. Good water pressure. The host was welcoming and responsive and made helpful travel suggestions. Charming place to stay.

Great place in a beautiful location! Host (Giuseppe) was amazing - informative, easy to get in touch with and very helpful! He had so much love and passion to Matera, it was so fascinating to hear his stories. Place was clean, modern but also keeping the Matera history alive. The room had everything we needed and more! I enjoyed my stay very much!

It's a big climb up to the Duomo but in Matera you're either going to be going up or returning up.

The owner was very helpful, letting us in early, and best of all providing luggage storage after we checked out. (Surprisingly luggage storage in Matera seems to be quite limited). The rooms are luxurious. They are all different so your room may not match a particular photo. Ours both had outside space available.

The host, Giuseppe, is what makes this stay special. He was very attentive, kind and helpful. He provided us with phone numbers for taxis, a map of exactly where his guest house is, a landmark restaurant to aid the taxi for the location and a photo of his front door, which I utilized to help the taxi driver find the house. We were late in arriving and Giuseppe was there waiting for us outside where the taxi could stop. He helped us with our luggage, and when inside our suite, gave us some history of his home and locations of what to see (with a map), where to eat, and other cities to visit in the area based on our likes. He also told us that he was readily available should we want or need anything else. The suite itself was wonderful. It was unique, comfortable, clean, quiet, and in the perfect location for exploring Matera. The bathroom was the biggest and nicest of all of our stays in Italy. The cleaning staff was friendly and efficient. Our stay here (3 nights) was fantastic. Grazie Mille Giuseppe.

Everything was perfect. The location was excellent. Only footsteps to lovely restaurants. Even though we were in the heart of Sassi town the room was peaceful as it is made of stone. Breakfast was plentiful and we enjoyed using the terrace to eat. Cleaning was excellent

We were very happy with what was provided for breakfast and the general comfort of the room. The host was also extremely helpful in terms of giving us tips about restaurants, where to go and making sure we were comfortable in the accommodation. We would love to go back!

This property was unique and excellent. Everything was thought of. Very safe and very clean. Breakfast was fine. Great location to everything you would want to do in old town. The manager was very accommodating and very informative about the old town. I would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous accommodation very comfortable for 4 persons. Really clean great selection of breakfast items and drinks. Catered for coeliac guest. Beds were comfortable. Location is brilliant right beside restaurants and bars. Car parking instructions were perfect and shuttle bus was an added bonus in the warm weather.

Everything was absolutely perfect. This place is a gem. Super convenient location (right in the Sasso Barisano), stylish, spacious and comfortable rooms, gourmet breakfast with local products right in the room (breakfast can also be enjoyed in the lovely common terrace). Giuseppe is a delightful host, he spent a lot of time with us making sure we had everything we needed for our stay, and provided a lot of helpful information about Matera and what to do. He truly enjoys being a host and goes above and beyond. Staying at the Dimore dei Mercanti enabled us to experience Matera in the best possible way. Can't recommend enough and can't wait to go back.
