THE VIEW! Probably the best in Matera. The room (unique cave style itself) I stayed in had a kind of private terrace, and the view of the town, the valley, the river, and the mountains—with a beer or coffee in hand—was the most beautiful scenery and best cozy, relaxing time in my life. And of course, the innkeeper, Valentina's service was perfect and very thoughtful.

Nothing really, but if I had to be a nit picker I would say the pillows are a bit hard, and we prefer a freshly cooked breakfast, or at least a cornetto and capiccino, so we opted out of the breakfast offer.

Excellent location just at the edge of the Sassi with a beautiful view over them, but at the same time close enough to be able to find parking outside the ZTL area. Place was super cosy and very clean, shower had excellent pressure and fittings working perfectly.

Great location and wonderful host. The view from the terrace over Matera stunning. Beautiful and clean cave room! You have to experience it. Valentina and Francesco were wonderful hosts and very helpful. We were given all the information that helped us easily find all places and spend a short but wonderful time. I would definitely recommend Torreta ai Sassi! We will definitely return there again.

The amazing view from the terrace looking back into the Sassi and the fact that it was dug into the rock as a cave, made for a memorable stay. Host was very passionate about the property and the location which added to our experience.

The breakfast box was full of sweet, processed foods. I would not opt for this again. There are quite a few steps down and up to the property which is not unusual in Italy, therefore light luggage would be recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay here with the magnificent views from our terrace. Our host Valentina could not have been more helpful. She showed us on the map all the places we should visit, she also booked dinner reservations for us for both evenings. They were not tourist traps which really appealled to us. The location was perfect and near to everything. Opening the gate into the property was like entering a secret garden.

Great location. Great accomodation and Great hosts. The view over Matera was jaw dropping, such a magical place to sit on the patio watching the sun go down.. The room was very special, a cave room! It was very pretty, with a lot of attention to small details and spotlessly clean. Our hosts were super helpful, organising taxis and dinner reservations. They repaired my reading glasses and prepared our room for an early check-in. I would definitely recommend Torretta ai Sassi. Matera is a very special place with so much to explore, you really need to stay overnight. We stayed 2 nights and loved every minute of it.

We booked this for the terrace and stunning view of Matera Sassi, and were not dissappointed. An awesome view. It was a bonus that the host, Valentina, was amazing to. She helped us park, gave local information, best tour, and great restaurant choices. Most helpful. Facilities were all good, clean, comfortable. A memorable stay!

Parking can be a bit tricky in Matera, maybe the possibility to park closer to the property would be nice but this has nothing to do with the facilities.

Valentina was an outstanding host. She was very communicative and helped me from finding a place to park to booking tours and restaurants for me. The property has an amazing view of the whole Matera and away from the crowds. Facilities are as shown in the pictures. I wish i would have stayed one more night.

Not sure if it was due to the natural humidity of the cave room or the mattress and comforter materials themselves, but they felt a bit heavy and clammy/not very breathable (like foam), otherwise this place would be a 10 in my book. Regardless, we slept well and will definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to Matera.

Fantastic location (major sites easily accessible on foot), unbeatable view, careful attention to room amenities and the warmest and most helpful host you will likely encounter. As soon as we parked our car in a free lot a short walk away, our host texted us in real time with instructions on how to reach the property (with photos). She provided a detailed tour of our rooms and ensured we had what we needed, right down to umbrellas in case of rain and gluten free nibblies for me to accommodate my dietary restriction. During check in she also secured dinner reservations on our behalf for both nights of our stay, with one of her restaurant recommendations being so tasty that we returned for lunch on our last day (La Lopa). The two rooms we reserved were quiet, very clean, well equipped, with updated bathrooms and a spacious patio with tables and chairs and the best view. The host lives on the property and is close at hand via text if anything is needed, but otherwise allows for your privacy. We lamented only having two days there!

Everything was perfect. Valentina is an amazing host and hooked us up with amazing restaurants during our three night stay. The property is amazing. Magical views of the heart of the Sassi. The entire experience at Torretta left us speechless. Do yourself a favor and book before this secret gem is discovered. I rarely write reviews but can’t help but share the magic of Torretta ai Sassi!

Beautiful property that lets you feel the history of this unique city. Our accommodation was in a cave room which was atmospheric but comfortable and well equipped. The views! And Valentina, the owner, went above and beyond in meeting us at 1 in the morning after the train we were supposed to take was canceled. We ended up on a 9 hour bus ride from Rome, but Valentina arranged a pick up and then settled us in. What a positive and friendly human being she is too!

The location is PERFECT!!!! It’s in the Sassi, historic part and super easy to walk everywhere but it’s located so that there are views of the Sassi. Free parking is very close by. Torretta is beautiful, small, charming, with incredible terraces and views. Valentina was a wonderful host. She recommended and made dinner reservations for us and was always available and full of love for her incredible home town of Matera. This really is THE place to stay in Matera! Enjoy!!!
