Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomProbably best to get back at the time when Marian picks people up if the weather is rainy and it is late. May be a little strenuous for people not used to walking but you can also commission a taxi to take you to the hostel itself.
Marian was a very responsive host. The seaviews from the hostel are lovely. Breakfast was always very nice and nice sets of people arriving. Friendly atmosphere. Great place to chill. Marian also organises different activities. You have to get a taxi to Stony Hill Flats to get to the hostel. Marian will collect you. It is nice walking down. At night, you can see nice fireflies as one approaches the road to the hostel. Many thanks for your help, Marian.

CroatiaAmazing vibes, really cool and helpful staff. Favourite place in Jamaica so far. You wake up in the middle of the jungle with the sounds of nature. Felt really safe and the view is amazing! Good WiFi as well. Excellent for solo travelers, the owner will give you a lift to town and back if you have no way to reach the hostel so location is not a problem. Also amazing breakfast, 10/10, could not recommend more!

United KingdomThe property has two dogs - not a problem - but because they shared the furniture with the guests, the soft furnishings had a very strong smell of ‘dog’. A regular steam clean would solve the problem and keep the furniture in a more hygienic state
Great location, good to be away from the town. We loved the cottage where we stayed. Clean and well equipped kitchen. Great ambience

FranceWe loved the breakfast, the hosts (especially the cute baby ;) ), the surroundings (the beautiful jungle), the view, the babyfoot games, the rides in the truck. Marian is very nice and helps you if you have any problem. It’s a real hostel where you can feel that Marian and Anna welcome you warmly in their home. A lot of different people go there, be prepared to meet a lot of nice people !

BrazilMarian and Ana were lovely hosts and made all guests feel comfortable. The place has arguably the best view of Portland. It is nice and quiet a bit distant from the centre, which was not a problem because Marian would leave us and pick us up and combined a combined time.

ItalyAll good :-)
I had a fantastic time staying with Mariam at his great hostel. Mariam is a great guy, I came as a guest but I feel like I left as a friend! We went out together a couple of times, it was a great experience :-) The hostel itself is awesome. The view is great, facilities are top notch, and you couldn't ask for a better breakfast in the morning. If you feel like stretching your legs, do walk the way up or down at least once, it was great and very safe.

IndiaI suppose a swimming pool would be nice 😄
Free breakfast was excellent, and is a good way of everybody meeting up in the morning. The location is great except can be a little isolated so works very well that the hostel owner gives everyone (who wants it) a lift half way into town every morning, and can pick you up from the drop off spot in the early evening. Staff were helpful and integrated well with the guests. Trips out etc were good.

Canadanothing really but I have to say that the road to get there is the worst I’ve seen in Jamaica: if you’re driving by yourself, I advive you not to get there at night the first day.
This is the greatest hostel I’ve ever been to! Marian is a great host and the house has only good vibes. The view from the hostel is gorgeous, so much that is hard to leave the place every morning, even to go see one of the numerous wonderful falls that you’re surrended by or to go swin at the beach. The area is wonderful to visit, quiet and wild (the best in Jamaica).

United KingdomThe views from the place are incredible, you really are away from it all and can properly chill and relax here. it’s easy enough to get to, with the host picking up from the bottom of the hill twice a day, or taxis will take you up. Breakfasts are great, two beautiful dogs and the best views on the island.

Marian & Anna are lovely hosts! They care for really everything you need. The Location of the hostel is out the city, but the view and the quietness upthere is stunning. Next route taxi road is reachable quite easy. Tours offered and done by Marian are awesome for a fair price. Also the recommendations were all perfectly good. We recommend to stay in Germaican Hostel for every Traveller who is not looking for a luxury resort but a lovely, clean and well equipped (especially kitchen) place with extraordinary kind hosts.

The owners and staff are European and they run this place just like a hostel in Europe, and they keep standards incredibly high here. Having worked in a few hostels myself I see the extra effort that goes into this operation and it’s greatly appreciated. I could write a short story about how good my experience was here but I will try keep it brief. The owners and staff are super approachable, humble and a happy team that are great to be around. Like some hostels in Europe a breakfast is included in the cost of your stay, and might I add not a basic one…the best inna Jamaica, you should come for the breakfast alone, I’ll not spoil it! The property is amazing and the views from the comfortable porch even more so, so much so I recommend that you get your supplies in town before you come up here and just spend your time chilling and enjoying the property, rain or sun it’s the best place to relax away from it all. A short walk from the property you can grab an inexpensive route taxi to town for supplies. The owners know everything to do and more in the area and are happy to share their knowledge and insights on the best things to do. I backpacked around Jamaica for 3 months and this was the best hostel I stayed at hands down, don’t even bother looking at anything else in Portland, this is the place to be!

SpainThe misleading best of this place is its location only because of the views, BUT BIG ISSUE HERE IS THE ACCESS TO THE LOCATION. The dirt road to the Hostel is very rough, muddy, slippery, full of potholes, rocks, steep ascents and descents and much longer than GMaps tells you. Before going we asked the owner if the Hostel was accessible with a normal rental car, he said the road was uncomfortable but normal cars came to the area and just follow the signs. Well if you have a 4x4 you are fine, but in a normal car I strongly advice you not to attempt it unless you want to get stuck in mud or much worse break you steering or the engine crankcase on a rock, pay a fortune to the rental company and ruin your holiday. The signs to the Hostel are also old, dark, blurry, half covered in vegetation and easy to miss, so do not even think to arrive at night unless you know the way by heart. Yes, other standard cars do make it, but this does not mean the road is good or in an acceptable condition, and you only need to look at the dilapidated condition of the local cars from the villagers around. Actually our way out we came across a French couple going to another nearby accommodation that exploded a tire and damaged the ring on a prominent stone, surrounded by locals arguing about how to get their car out of the way. Additionally, I can’t believe the suspiciously enthusiastic reviews about this place. Our little bungalow was nice and the view was also nice, but there was no hot water, actually there was barely cold water as the water pressure is so low you can`t wash your long hair; the lighting in the room is so poor you can’t read a book; wifi was erratic; not TV or AC (we don’t care about those but some people do); and the breakfast some reviews rave about is just bread, small pancakes, some fruits and coffee! The place is very isolated, the closest shops are several km way on that donkey road and the hostel has no restaurant, you have to bring all your food beforehand.
