Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The location is close to the main attractions and supermarkets, however, the area is not the best to walk around specially if you are female travelers.
It is a beautiful property, room was comfortable and everything was clean. Kitchen was fully equipped and it has a nice area to chill. The staff is really helpful.

wifi not available in the room just outside not really comfortable after long traveling you cant go to youre bed relax chill until when you making plan you need energy to stay outside where everybody smoking .....another big problem they has big dog( rottweiler) not really good for hostel where is the lots of different people....
normal hostel was ....was not too bad and middle of the city close to beach

Wifi only in the common space
Right in the city centre of Montego Bay. The room was basic but there was a nice common space outside. Bathrooms are clean and spacious.

All good
This was my second stay at Mobay Kotch and the first time on my own. The location is great in downtown Montego Bay. You are near everything you could need. The beds are very comfortable and I felt very safe. It's a great place to interact with other travellers and decide where to go if you are travelling around the island and just unwind into island life after arriving in Jamaica 🇯🇲 The staff are great, Marie and Mel took care of everything. The bathrooms are always clean and tidy, and there is a well equipped kitchen, but be aware that there are no hot showers, but Jamaica is warm I highly recommend a stay at Mobay Kotch

The place has character and offers a far more authentic experience than an all-inclusive... and Vanessa is awesome! Keep in mind: it doesn't offer luxury.

It’s a very clean house in a good location. The staff were super lovely and helpful every time we had questions. It felt very homely and the atmosphere was great! Despite its simplicity it was really family friendly too. They even have a child loving dog :)

Mobay...I prefer to stay in less touristic place, like hope bay. Mobay equals Babylon to me.

All was excellent.
It is a colonial house and looks exactly as in the photos. The mattresses were exceptional. The huge kitchen and backyard made a nice shared area for travellers from the world.

I would prefer to have access to the internet in my room, not just the meeting area. Please replace the tattered drapes and control the mice.
Location in downtown Montego Bay is not "quiet" as you have the privilege to experience the busy and noisy life of the Jamaicans. Easy to find places to eat including trying soup at the street vendors. Wanted good jerk chicken and oxtail and found both excellent. Had not requested a "quiet" room but a private room which worked out great. Nice building in MoBay amongst the history of the people.

Wifi doesn't work very well, and only works in the courtyard area. Not the hostel's fault, but downtown Montego Bay is not a very compelling place to stay. The whole neighborhood is in bad condition and there's not much of anything to see or do. I will say, though, that we didn't have any problems with safety or people bothering us when we walked around.
The woman who runs it was friendly and really helpful, when asked she gave us a lot of good information for the rest of our time in Jamaica. The house looks nice and has a good feel to it, and the courtyard area is great for hanging out. In general, there's a lot of space for hanging out and socializing both inside and outside. Generally clean.
