Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaBit of a walk to get to the furthest onsens, but well rewarded once there.
Great to experience the Japanese Onsen culture and staying at a ryokan. This included wearing a traditional Yakuta and Geta (wooden sandals). Also liked the private Onsen included with our stay.

United StatesOverall a great location it's walking distance from train station and next to shops and restaurants. They even held our bags after checkout so we could wander around the next day. The room came with dinner and breakfast, and it was delicious. It was a traditional meal with so many courses, we counted 10 for dinner. We ate downstairs in their dining area, it was perfect. We all got our own yukata robes to wear around town with wooden sandals, but you can wear your own . I suggest you bring our own as wooden ones are not the most comfortable. Purchase at this hotel gets you entrance to all 7 bathhouses. We loved going around the nearby shops and bars in the evening after dinner. Beds are very comfortable and they even put a pot of ice water in our room for the evening, which was a wonderful touch. Note, our room was on the 3rd floor with many stairs. Something you should keep note of if you have mobility issues. People mentioned the noise level in the reviews, yes you can hear hustle and bustle of town but it was worth it. We would return again. This place is a gem!

FinlandYukatas tend to be to small, and so it was here, too. Trains and the train gate especially make frequent noise, although not between 23-7.
Very nice personnel. Good japanese breakfast, and onsen availability was good. Small establishment that, while modern, gives a feeling of authenticity.

The location was fantastic, and the room was very clean and comfortable. They let us borrow an umbrella for our walk to the train station.

MalaysiaI wasn't sure if anyone spoke English there as we understood Mandarin and I spoke Japanese. Not something that I didn't like but writing for other travellers who don't speak both.
The location was perfect as my mom had weak knees and couldn't walk much from the station. We also ordered the breakfast halfway and they accommodated us for last minute order and the food served was amazing! Travelled in a big group with a family of 6 and they helped set up the rooms to be opposite each other for a closer bond.

GermanyIt was quite hard to cope with the amount of food one is being served with. Too much for European stomachs. :-)
The service, the friendliness of the staff, the food - all were really excellent. One can also enjoy two private onsen in the house. Also, the location is great, since it's only a few meters to the next public onsen.

United StatesThis was the perfect place for an authentic stay in Kinosaki. The location allows for you to visit all seven onsen, the rooms were spacious and clean, and, best of all, the dinner and breakfast were tasty feasts. Both meals took place in our room, where staff cleared the area and then served us several courses of delicious food. We were lucky to be in town during the famous crab season and enjoyed both crab and shabu shabu tajima beef for dinner. After dinner, the space was cleaned and our tatami beds were set up in the evening. We didn't stay around to watch, of course, because post-dinner onsen is a must! We had such a thrill walking around town in the yukata that were provided by the hotel and also appreciated the umbrellas they gave us to shelter from the light mist. Ichidaya is a great spot for anyone looking for a hotel that balances the freedom of visiting all that Kinosaki has to offer (we also made it to Onsen-ji, up to the top of Mt. Daishi, and visited several shops) while also experiencing the magic of ryokan hospitality.

CanadaThe futon beds were (as usual at ryokans) very uncomfortable. It takes a couple of days to recover.
The dinners and breakfasts were over the top, both in quality and volume. In fact, there was far too much food. The room was spacious and the AC worked well (important in September in Japan). Good proximity to everything in Kinosaki and close to the station.

United StatesThis traditional ryokan delivered on an amazing and unique experience enjoyed by my family of 4 (2 teen boys, 14 and 18). The location of Ichidaya was ideal, 5 min walk from the train station and in the heart of the town. The 5 course dinner served in our traditional room was delicious and was followed up by an equally delicious traditional Japanese breakfast in the room the next morning. The town is stunning, though we were lucky enough to be there during the peak of the cherry blossoms. Don't miss the Kinosaki Ropeway, a cable car to the top of the mountain with a beautiful view and a visit to the Buddhist temple there

FranceThe place was very noisy. The railroad crossing is next to the ryokan, which means the alarm is on very often. Also, we could hear the staff running into the stairs very late and early, all day long.

SwitzerlandThe meals were too over the top - it’s not possible to eat so much food. They should consider food waste when deciding how much to serve people. The staff’s English capabilities were limited. The location is right near both the street and the train tracks which meant it was noisy when trying to sleep.

SwitzerlandIt was stated but not very clear in the booking.com page that the shower was a shared facility so we missed this detail. As the shower facility is together with the private onsen, it has to be booked and they limit the time to 45min for using the shower and private onsen which made it very restrictive and inconvenient. Also the parking facility was very far, and we needed to pay for it and only until 11am. Check-out was at 10am, whereas we were only able to check-in at 3pm the day before. The futon beds were also not very comfortable. For the price paid, it was not very worth it. Staff was very polite, but English was limited so it was hard to understand her. If you are looking for a very special and memorable stay with good service and facilities, this is not the one..
Location was good and was next to the main street and next to one of the 7 public onsens. They provided yukata, baskets and shoes for going to the public onsens. Staff was polite.
