Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanSlight inconvenience in the location, only accessible by buses or walking approx 15 minutes to the nearest subway station. Would recommend getting a Kyoto city day bus pass if staying here, especially in the summer to avoid walking in the heat!
Excellent amenities and room upgrade to a deluxe King. Very comfortable rooms with a nice lounge area and TV, perfect after a day's trip in Kyoto. Very helpful and accommodating staff, with requests such as ordering taxis. Did not have the chance to try the breakfast, but it looked good!

United KingdomOn a very busy wide road, you could hear the road noise, to be honest it didn't bother us but our friends that had the room next door found it a bit noisy, sometimes you had to wait quite a while for the lift, especially in the morning if there was a large party staying there, and also it could do with more washing machines, sometimes people would leave there washing on and go out of the day, or all evening, if you told the staff they would take it out so you could use one, but they really should not have to do that !! But they were only little things nothing to really spoil your holiday.
The rooms were Western type so spacious, fantastic shower, and the onsen was lovely, but I think the men had a better view out of their window!

AustraliaAbout a 10 min walk from gojo or a 10-1500Y taxi ride from the main station. No adjoining door for 2 rooms.
Helpful staff. We arrived before check in and left our bags that were delivered to our room by the time we returned. Everything clean and spotless. Beds very comfortable. Onsen clean and had it to myself. Perfect way to end the day. Just wish we'd ordered the breakfast with our rooms. We had to book 2 rooms for our family and they were co-located without asking.

HungaryIt was a bit of a disappointment that the public bath (onsen) didn't accept tattooed guests. I understand this procedure with the traditional ones, but as this hotel had many international guests, it didn't make much sense, or at least they should mention this to guests in the description, so they are aware.
We had a good time at this hotel, the laundry facility was a very helpful addition.

JapanIt’s illegal to make a photocopy of a residence card (for residents in Japan). Some hotels ask for it and some don’t. What’s required is merely an ID to show, not to copy. I’m always disappointed in hotels that copy my ID (residence card) and proud of those that do not copy it. I allow hotels to copy as not to cause a scene.
Public bath, breakfast, amenities, private bathroom were all nice. I enjoyed the view from the room. My partner likes the floor-to-ceiling window. Wifi was solid in the room. The bed was pretty comfortable. Facilities were clean.

United KingdomThe hotel was a bit of a walk from the train station.
The best thing about this hotel was the spa. Unfortunately I only got to try it once during our 3 day stay as it closed at certain times of day. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It even provided pyjamas and slippers.

JapanThe hotel backs onto a large main road and the traffic was especially noisy in the evening and the morning. My room did not have black out blinds either, so between the traffic and the light, it was an early wake-up every morning.
The hotel was a 10 minute walk to Gojo station on the Karasuma Line, which was only one stop away from Kyoto station so easy to change to other places. There was also a bus stop less than 10 minutes walk where you can get the bus to Kinkaku-ji. The room was comfortable and a good size, with the usual amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful, and allowed us to leave our luggage prior to check-in. The breakfast was a Western/Japanese buffet, with a good range of foods, such as hot foods, salads, fruits, yogurt, rice and soups, etc. Although it was always busy, we were able to get a table each morning without waiting. The onsen was great after a long day of walking and also includes a small sauna room.

Good location 20 minutes walk from the train station and very close to bus stop that take you to most places of interest. The hotel staff were super friendly and ready to help when needed. Good breakfast with bacon and eggs and so on as well as Asian food, and breakfast time was generous. There is also an onsen/spa on fir guest use.Good

NetherlandsThe bed was very hard as was the pillow. I got a sore back. The spa doesnt open until 5 pm. As mentioned the european style breakfast could be a bit more elaborate (maybe some fried eggs and cheese etc).
Staff was friendly, the room was more towards european size. Amenities were excellent. Breakfast was okay, more catered to Asians though. The contintental breakfast options were very limited. They offer massages as well. Aircon works great.

CanadaKyoto has an excellent subway system, so it's unfortunate that the hotel is in a bit of a dead-zone between the lines. It's about a 15 minute walk to any one of them..

NetherlandsLocation was hard to reach via metro, but with plenty of buses available. We were 4 people and they forgot to leave towels for the kids on all days, so I had to go to the reception everyday to pick them up.
New room/building, with an amazing "onsen" (traditional Japanese warm bath) on the last floor.
