Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

BrazilConveniently located near the train station and the stop where you will be dropped off if you come by bus from Kumamoto. Staff was always very kind and helpful (thank YOU ALL). Room is spartan (outdated?) and bathroom is miniscule (that prefab plastic one). You get to use the public bath at the other Amanek (the rich cousin one) and that is a bonus. Regardless of the bathroom, I still consider this Amanek a nice deal.

Hong KongI really appreciate the help the hotel staff gave me. I left some cash in the room's safe and only realized it after I arrived in another city... Even though it took some days, the staff still managed to transfer the money to my bank account.

United StatesBathroom could have used a better scrubbing.
I stayed at the Amanek Yula Re initially then moved to this hotel when I extended my stay for a few days. Unfortunately this hotel suffered in comparison. It was pretty basic. One thing to note is that you can use all the facilities at the main hotel; rooftop pool and indoor onsen as well as the breakfast if you have purchased that in your package.

United StatesThere's a Amanek Inn and a Amanek Hotel. If you book the Inn you need to walk over to the hotel for breakfast and to use the onsen. The Booking. Com write up is a little misleading.
Short walk from train station. No shortage of restaurants, pubs, and bars nearby.

JapanHmmm the walls were a bit thin in the Amanek Inn building, hence we could hear noise from other rooms sometimes. Not a big deal, just a comment: They didn't require guests to shower/quick rinse before using the pool (I'm used to do that at the gym and pool I go to) and after a long Japanese summer day, thought it would be more considerate towards other guests.
Great location. Loved the rooftop pool and bar! Onsen was good and all the staff was super polite and friendly.

CanadaAlways wished the slippers were more comfortable and useful. I stumble around as they fall off and I regret putting them on.
I liked using the adjacent hotel facilities. The onsen was clean, interesting and relaxing. Enjoyed the use of kimonos at the resort. Breakfast was a bit pricey but had terrific variety and featured some local specialties. Excellent. The location was convenient to the train and town.

AustraliaWindow ledge was a bit dusty. Jacuzzi did not seem to be working. Stairs from the rooftop to the lower floor were wet and slippery, did not feel safe. There was pretty much no bench space in the bathroom but that didn't bother me. Breakfast buffet seemed a little expensive. Beware that the sento can be very crowded at certain times of the day.
Amanek includes 2 buildings, the Yula-re and the Inn. The Yula-re gives slightly fancier vibes and that's where the breakfast buffet, smoking room, sento, rooftop pool, gym and jacuzzi are located. I stayed next door at the Amanek Inn. The lobby is very modern and on the first floor there's a little library where you can read or simply relax. There's also a massage place on the same floor along with a microwave. There's only one lift for the building. The staff is friendly and accommodating, will store your luggage and provide great restaurant recommendations. My room was on the top floor in the corner and had possibly the best view, particularly at sunrise. The room size was ok for a solo traveller with a regular size suitcase. Loved that I could connect my phone to the TV seamlessly. Towels, slippers and yukata are provided in the room along with toiletries. FYI - sento and pool are located next door and you will have to briefly walk outdoors if you stay at the Inn to reach the other building's lobby. Wish the yukatas provided at the Yula-re were available for purchase. They were so pretty. Would stay here again.

Hong KongBath Room - The shower head is broken. Wall - The wall is so thin I can the music play by the room next door is as loud as speaker. Lighting - There is only one switch for the whole room so you cannot choose to have a dim lighting at night. Curtain - The room is dusty. Temperature - The Air Conditional turn itself frequently. Service - Staff cant help with all the issue above. He can only switch my shower head. I have a 18 days trip in Japan this time and this room is the WORST!!! Do not stay here!

ChinaWe booked the standard room, to avoid the budget rooms, which looked very small. When we checked in, we were disappointed to find that our rooms were in the building annex to the main facilities, and they were tiny and had an absurdly small bathroom, almost like an airplane bathroom, but with a shower. In the bathroom, the ceiling is so low that a relatively tall person can’t stand. We ended up having to pay 150% more than what we had paid already to stay in a normal hotel room, in the main building. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, but the pictures of the room are misleading. Either they tried to give us budget rooms, or the pictures are from another type of room. The pictures focus on the facilities available next door and don’t show the reality of the rooms they are renting in the annex.

AustriaCheck in is from 15:00 and when I arrived to the hotel at 14:30, I could not occupy my room. In most European hotels it would not be an issue, but as I see it's a generic approach in Japan that it's not really possible to check in before the official check in time. Anyway, the front desk staff was nice, they suggested me a great place for a quick lunch, so at the end it was not an issue that I could check in only after 15:00.
This hotel offers an amazing value - the hotel itself is a basic one, but nice and clean. The real value is that it offers free access to all the amenities of the other neighboring AMANEK Hotel which is a marvel. The breakfast is an amazing feast offering the best from the region. There is an amazing onsen on the 14th floor and a rooftop pool on the 15th floor overlooking the whole city - and it's all yours. The location of the hotel is also great, a short walk away from Beppu station and you can also reach the famous Kannawa onsen area with a short bus ride from the station. I look forward to returning to this hotel and Beppu, this stay was the highlight of my entire Japan trip.

CanadaReally no complaints.
5 minute walk to the main station and there is a grocery store on the opposite side. Everything was clean and there was ample space for two guests. If you travel with a large luggage, it would be difficult to open but for backpackers or carry-on luggage, it's no issue. Many local resaurants near by and not noisey. There was a smart TV which I really appreciated too. Highly recommend and would come back!
