We stayed at this hotel 2 different times (at the start and end of our trip) and would've stayed longer if they had the availability. Why? The LOCATION. We were first timers to Japan it was recommended to stay in Shinjuku or Shibuya etc. But to me, that's like staying in Times Square in New York. Ueno has a much more laid back, old-Tokyo vibe. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from Ueno station, as well as accessible to Keisei-Ueno station which is the train directly from Narita Airport. It's in a great little part of Ueno which is close to all of the action, you step out of the building and there are shops, izakayas, restaurants, convenience stores, other hotels and a lot of locals. You're also close to a lot of name brand shops like Uniqlo as well as shops in the station itself. Ueno is well connected to other places in the city. The room itself is pretty standard and yes they are SMALL. We are a short couple so it wasn't a huge issue but if you are a larger person or have a lot of luggage, you might struggle. But all the rooms in this price range in central Tokyo are going to be SMALL. Check-in and check-out was easy. This APA provided space under the bed for storage. There are NO closets, just hooks. TV, Internet, fridge, kettle, desk w/ chair (even though you don't really have space to sit at the desk). All bathroom amenities. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The room basically juuuuust fits a double bed length-wise. The shower is also small. We debated on staying at a cheaper APA ~15 minute walk from Ueno station, in a more residential area, and we passed by it and there was nothing in that area. It's worth being close to a main station. After walking all day, you just want to get to your hotel! We also stayed at APA Hotel Higashi-Shinjuku-Ekimae, and THIS UENO hotel is better!

The size of the room for one person was great, a couple is tight. Staff were friendly and I liked the microwave in the lobby to heat meals if needed.

The bathrooms were very small. We're 6ft and not large people, they were tight. Rubbish isn't emptied daily so we felt it built up and we would have liked somewhere to have taken this. Also the international plugs don't fit a standard NZ 3 pin plug, so we had to buy an adapter here to charge all that we needed.

The location was fantastic and incredibly handy to numerous train stations and food places. We loved the friendliness of the staff, nothing was ever too difficult. The simple rooms were modern and effective for what we needed. Daily amenities were given on your door and the range of products offered means we can travel without carrying numerous body washes, shampoos, etc

The breakfast was not good and it was different quality than the other APA hotel i stayed before and it was even way different than the photos showed on their website. If i knew this before, i would reserve it without the breakfast. I even tried to cancel breakfast in spot, but they said since booked via booking.com, is not possible to cancel the breakfast.

The breakfast was not great: not really Japanese, nor Western, a bit in between and not integrated into the hotel, just borrowing a fast-food restaurant space during morning time.

Excellent location for a clean and well-organised hotel. Its fantastic location is the best point: near Ueno train Station, close to two metro stations, 5-min walk to Ueno Park, and near countlesss of typical restaurants. A good deep-dive into a less touristical Tokyo. Good note: the luggages can be stored under the bed!

We basically liked everything, would stay here again.

Very much enjoyed the location. First time to Japan and were torn about whether to stay Shinjuku side or Ueno side, and were SO happy to choose Ueno. Very well connected location to Tokyo station and the rest of the city. You’d pay a lot more for the same quality of hotel in Shinjuku! Ueno is also so much nicer, more local, close to parks and yet still vibey at night (maybe nothing late late night but a few izakayas). Hotel is about a 6 min walk to Ueno station, shopping street and also close to the Narita AirPort Express exit. The room itself is SMALL, but that’s the Japanese standard. It just about fits a double bed. You will have trouble opening your suitcase. We packed light. The hotel doesn’t have a laundry. Didn’t interact with the staff, very self serve. Everything was clean with modern furnishings. Some things to mention as standard in hotels (at this price point based on 4 hotels in different cities): you will have to request a room cleaning, you get tones of room toiletries EXCEPT lotion (big shampoo, conditioner, and body soap - all great quality - and not the tiny bottles in North America). Heating and cooling is central. Rooms are SMALL.

The room was extremely small but most hotel rooms over all in Tokyo area could be small as well. I’m not sure. I won’t share the room with my sister again for my next visit. It’s too stuffy. They didn’t clean your room everyday unless you asked for it which I did and the house keeper was good. I asked for extra blanket and they would charge you for that.

The location is very good. Next to the market and train stations both to the city center and express train to Narita airport. The water pressure was very good and amenities were good. The heater was good. The bed was comfortable.

- If the lobby / Reception is more organized. Alot of luggage lying around for check in & check outs . the lobby looks disorganized, crowed with people. - Not enough chairs for waiting. - check out too early at 10am. If can extend to at least 12 pm.

We were hoping for a laundry room in the hotel itself but had to go to a laundromat nearby. The directions were provided by the hotel. It took quite a while to get to our room because we had to wait long for the lifts.

The location was superb. We were in the heart of Okachimachi and right beside Ameyoko shopping street, just a few minutes walk away from Ueno and Okachimachi station. The room, although small, was clean, and we were given fresh amenities (towels, sleeping robes, etc.) every day. Check out was a very fast and easy process as well. We were able to store our luggage with the hotel even after we checked out.

The room was small (yes I know this is Tokyo) and the lobby is tiny and often full of stored luggage.

The hotel is beautifully located in the centre of Ueno with its food and drinks places, shopping and transport. There is walking access to several museums in the nearby park as well as the airport railway. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The room is small and I could not store my luggage easily in the room. There was nowhere to store my clothes either.

Room was quite small, difficult to open the luggage. Bathroom was also very small but functional. I suggest you reduce single-use plastic. New towels are left everyday outside the door inside a plastic bag- a fabric bag could be used instead and reused many times.

Very good location close to Ueno station. Cleaning service was exceptionally great. Check in was easy with a self service machine. Very good price for the room.
