Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Netherlandssmell in the bathroom is sometimes not so great.
we liked the contactless check-in with our dear samouraï :) the room was spacious enough and had AC. the location for us was perfect, close to bars/ restaurants / karaoke. 15 min walk to the ferry terminal.

SingaporeWe got a connecting room and the doorway to the other room is very narrow. While the twin room is spacious, the double room is tight and hard to put a large size luggage. While the hotel employees were friendly, they don't speak English. The hotel doesn't provide free parking but u can get discounted parking at 1500 JPY for 20 hours at the parking next to hotel.
It is a new hotel. Hotel is very generous with good quality toiletries which you can help yourself to, at the lobby. Self check-in via automated machine is efficient. Good location; near the night spots in Kagoshima and located just opposite Don Don Donki, a popular cheap chain superstore where you can get anything you need. Automated multi-story Parking is just on the right side of the hotel; note that car park entrance is just next to hotel where u have to drive into the pedestrian walkway.

JapanLiked everything, except pillows were a bit flat and the hotel would not provide any extra. Also men's bath had a sauna while women's did not.
The hotel was very quiet and super clean.

SingaporeBathroom bathtub drain was not cleared/cleaned during 2 of the nights. Understand the concept of eco friendly housekeeping by not changing linens for consecutive nights stay, even ok with no daily vacuuming, but cleaning the drain is something very basic to prevent choking.

United StatesGreat if you prefer to check in with an animated dinosaur rather than ever see a human. In our case it was difficult and annoying that the arrangement was so impersonal when we wanted to do something slightly out of the ordinary (leave a suitcase overnight in storage while we visited Yakushima) and there was no human around, but if you have a straightforward stay the human-free approach shouldn't be an issue and is even amusing.
Straightforward hotel. Located downtown, easy access to restaurants and walkable to the port, many museums, etc.

United States1. The check-in process is a weird, unmanned, nonintuitive process. Some sort of pseudo-shogun image on a screen talks to you but it isn't at all clear what's going on. The automated check-in process won't work unless you type in exactly the name under which you booked the accommodation, but not necessarily in the same word order. You end up knocking on a nearby "employees only" door behind which several people are sitting to try to get some help. 2. I got there early but there wasn't even any consideration of early check-in. 3. Kagoshima as a city is not as interesting as Fukuoka or Nagasaki. The architecture is uninspired and tired.
1. The location is walkable both from the train station and the Sakurajima ferry terminal, though taking the bus from the train station is easy. 2. The city's historical role in the overthrow of the samurai system in the 1800s is interesting.

United StatesFelt very impersonable with no one to really interact with. Check in was unimpressive with the hologram character as I thought it would be more fun and interactive. I was really looking forward to a unique and fun experience w the “robots” which is why we booked this hotel, but it didn’t turn out that way. We found a dirty used face towel tucked behind the shampoo bottles in the bathtub/shower. The “onsen/furo” facility had dirty water with hair and particles floating in the water.
Location was convenient to train station, bus stops

AustraliaAutomated check in was impersonal. It was hard to do anything non standard (ie split the bill). The onsen water was tap water, in Kagoshima! That was very disappointing.
New and clean. Staff were very helpful, when you could interact with them.
