Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomFabulous and comfortable. Onsen was great with lots of little touches to make it feel special. Rooms comfortable and spacious (for a Japanese hotel).

SingaporeNot the property itself but do note that it is the choice of group tours and local travelers - as a result congestion is an issue that really kills the overall experience. Upon entering you are constantly greeted with noisy tourists. You would have to wait in line for breakfasts (lucky if you have a spot from 6:30-9:00am) and use of onsens. It could be the specific time we went on a weekend but my take is there are other choices available.
Excellent one of a kind modern hotel that keeps the traditional feel of a ryokan.

JapanThe property is excellent with a mixed Japanese and western style . The private onsens are the biggest Plus!! However, while using one of the private baths, my hand got badly bruised . The walls of the bath tub in the private bath were probably made of stone and were very sharp and rough!

Very near to Beppu station. Lotsa free stuffs like ramen, coffee, ice cream, Yakult, etc. Room is spacious and amenities are complete. No shoes in the hotel as all shoes are put in lockers at the entrance. In-house onsen is good.

United KingdomThe private onsens were (unsurprisingly) in high demand and worked on a first-come-first-served basis which meant it was difficult to get a spot. You could monitor the status on the TV in your room. I ended up getting up at 3am to try one.
Hotel was in a great location just a few steps away from the JR station and in the middle of town so easy to get around. There were shops, restaurants, convenience stores located nearby. I really liked the traditional look of the hotel and it was impeccably presented - it really made it feel like a great experience. The hotel has tatami throughout - you remove your shoes when you arrive at the hotel. Check-in was straightforward and efficient. My room was really comfortable and a good size with plenty of space for luggage. Yukata is provided which you can wear throughout the hotel. The highlight was the onsens on the top floor - the large public bath is great and I tried one of the private ones which was really nice too. The hotel has laundry facilities which were useful and worked well. Breakfast was good (although busy) and had lots of dishes including local specialities from the area, primarily focused on Japanese food but with some Western choices. The staff were friendly and efficient. It was a really nice stay in the heart of Beppu and it was a really nice, semi-traditional experience for not much more money than a standard hotel room.

JapanThe room windows didn’t allow for compete dark room. I have. A hard time sleeping in a bright room.
Where do I start? OnsenS on site? Public and family baths on site? A lounge with massage chairs FREE popsicles! No shoes property from the moment you walk in! It’s all about relaxation since you set your feet in. I don’t give it a complete perfect score because for me, I need complete darkness to sleep. The room was too bright at night but went to youme town round the corner and got heated eye mask the next night and I was completely relaxed. The private baths were absolute cute and my kids loved it. Totally recommend this place.

United KingdomNothing to complain. Just some customers having a heavy baggage with wear wheels causing the floor with dirt marks.
The 8 private hot baths are excellent! Free drinks, yakult drinks, ice lollies and evening noodles are served. Very happy experience in the hotel. Very nice room, nice staffs, clean environment. Convenient and close to JR and bus station. Customer needs to take off shoes making the environment very clean.

ThailandThe hotel was quite crowded during our stay. Did not really feel at ease. Long queue for private onsen and not tidy at the dressing area for public onsen. Pillow is too flat. Tatami mat in elevator got musky smell (it was a rainy day).
Good location. Easy parking available for ¥800. Attentive staffs at parking and reception. Plenty of laundry machines and dryers. Good breakfast.

United StatesIt was a little more expensive than I was expecting. At times there were very large crowds at check in/check out/meal times that kept things from feeling tranquil. The hotel rooms were comfortable, but I could hear noise from the hallway.
Breakfast and onsen were very nice. On-site parking was incredibly convenient if you are coming by car. However, the hotel is also very close to the train station, certainly within walking distance. Many nice restaurants around, and it is close to the shore if you enjoy beautiful early morning walks.

United KingdomRooms are small of course but if you’re here for 1 or 2 nights it’s no problem. The check in staff will not let you check in 1 minute before 3pm. Seems unnecessarily strict. We’re all sitting waiting for the 3pm queue to begin. In Europe if the room is ready/free you can check in whenever.
The 7 private onsens and the single sex communal onsens in the hotel are all excellent! The little extras .. removing your shoes at the door , the free ice creams, Yakult drink and evening ramen , just add to the feeling that this is somewhere special.

SingaporeAbsolutely love this hotel where you can truly immerse yourself in Japanese culture. The moment you take off your shoes at the front entrance, the ryokan experience awaits. The hotel offers both public and private onsens, massage chairs as well as complimentary ice cream, yakult and ramen. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We were happy to able to change our 2 rooms to a large family room. The hotel is also conveniently located, just a 2 minute walk from the train station.
