Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaOur family and friends (3 adults, 3 teenagers) stayed here for a week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Hiro was an amazing host. The location was fantastic, walking distance to Otaru station and close to the canal. The apartment was very clean and the kitchen and living area large and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, and being able to order delicious food from Hiro's restaurant on the ground floor was amazing. Just need to be aware that the stairs to 2nd floor bedrooms and living areas on 3rd floor are a bit steep. We loved this apartment and would definitely stay here again. Thanks Hiro!

AustraliaThe house of stone and iron was a magical experience for us. It is unique and a destination in itself. You can walk from Otaru station and it is near the canal. The restaurant downstairs is fantastic and, as they were fully booked they brought food to our room as if it was an extension of the restaurant. They brought three rounds of drinks up the steep stairs for us! The sleeping situation was perfect for our group. The bunks were wonderful. We love to visit again.

Australiamore hooks in the rooms would be handy to hang jackets, and a sharp knife in the kitchen - otherwise the apartment was well furnished.
this unique building offered our family of 5 a warm and interesting place to stay in the heart of Otaru. Hiro and team were welcoming and their restaurant was a lovely touch to have just downstairs.

TaiwanBed is capsule, yet still quite comfortable. I love the penthouse. The restaurant on first floor is the killer! Best western food I have ever tasted in Japan. Way above my expectations yet the price was shockingly reasonable! One of the best experiencea in this trip.

TaiwanThe beds are so comfy😍 There’s a restaurant (ran by the host) just on the first floor, which is a convenient option if you’re craving for a delicious dinner! The host would also offer recommendations for local restaurants and ice cream shops.

CanadaIt’s an old building, so insulation from the cold wasn’t the best, but that’s part of the charm
Very unique and historic building, very comfortable and cool bunk bed set up

It’s not my first time visiting Otaru, but Stone and Iron made me wanna visit Otaru again! I was already very excited when I booked this historical stone house. It is more amazing than what I expected! The owner Hiro is a super nice host and excellent chef. We enjoyed so much having our dinner in his lovely stone house. Food is fantastic! We had a good sleep as it’s so quiet. The stone house looks stunning in the snow!

IndonesiaNothing. It was great!
Charming! Such a unique and cozy place to stay. An easy walk from the train station and a short walk to the canal, museum, and tourist shops. The owner was lovely and friendly and helped us make last minute skiing plans. The food from the restaurant downstairs was delicious. Our family of five loved it.

TaiwanA historic building with great character. The owner of the homestay has a restaurant on the first floor and can provide timely assistance. There is a double room and a 6-person room on the 2nd floor. The living room and kitchen are on the third floor. The rooms are comfortable and the stairs are steep, recommended for younger groups.

Hong KongIf you have larger suitcases and luggage then you will have to haul it up a steep flight of stairs. But the staff is very helpful with helping you bring it up.
The location is excellent, and walking distance to the canal. The rooms are great and there is even an outdoor sitting area.

JapanThe only thing we didn’t like us that we only stayed for one night! This is definitely a place you’ll enjoy relaxing in for at least two nights.
This is such an awesome place to stay in Otaru! We wish we could have stayed two nights here as the apartment was so unique and there was so much to see/do in Otaru we only scratched the surface with our 1 day/1 night visit. This would be a great location for families or groups of friends as there’s a bunk room that can sleep six plus a second bedroom that sleeps two. A huge living room area with a comfy couch and nicely appointed kitchen with a large table if you want to cook on your own. The best part is Hiru’s restaurant and cafe on the first floor. Definitely book in for dinner here and have your coffee here in the morning. He lived in Australia, so speaks excellent English and his coffee and cooking are some of the best we’ve had in Japan!

Hong KongStaff didn’t speak English and it’s very hard to communicate. It’s not a hotel, just a penthouse that is good for bag packers only. They provide capsule beds. Stairs are long and steep, not friendly for kids or luggage. No service at all. And you will be the only one in this entire individual stone house. And the only lock is a simple electronic lock door downstairs. It’s on top of a restaurant and the whole place smells smoky and oily.
Location is closed to Otaru Canal, and quite closed to one big LeTao store which closes at 10pm.
