Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkWhile the overall concept of the facility is appealing, I unfortunately had a few disappointments during my stay. Firstly, there was no proper introduction or orientation provided upon check-in. I wasn’t informed about the amenities, what was available for use, or any specific policies. This left me confused about access to areas like the onsen, sauna, food and drink zones. One key issue was the complimentary drink ticket—I wasn’t told about it or how to use it, so I mistakenly threw it away. Clear communication at check-in would’ve easily prevented this. The biggest concern, however, was the ventilation inside the capsule. It was very weak, making it hard to get any fresh air, especially when the entrance was closed. The small light inside doubled as a heater, making the space uncomfortably warm rather than cozy. With just a bit more guidance and attention to guest comfort, this could’ve been a much better experience.
What I really loved about this place was its location—absolutely ideal. It’s close to the station, making it super convenient to get around. At night, there’s easy access to the local nightlife, and in the morning, you’ve got charming markets to explore. The whole area has a really pleasant, inviting vibe. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Even though they didn’t speak much English, it was clear they made a real effort to communicate and help however they could, which I genuinely appreciated. Despite it being a busy period, I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful the atmosphere was. The space stayed quiet at all times, and everyone was respectful of one another. It created a really comfortable and relaxing environment. Overall, a great experience and I’d definitely recommend it to others!

United StatesMy oldest kid apparently had a neighbor in the next capsule that snored super loud and obnoxiously. They clearly had untreated sleep apnea, so the snoring and sudden starts as the guy woke up repeatedly made it hard for my kid to sleep. Can't really blame the capsule hotel for that though, about they only thing they could do would be to offer earplugs or soundproof the capsules somehow.
While in Japan, my (teen/adult) kids wanted to try a capsule hotel. Gran Customa Ueno was a great choice. Capsules were comfortable, free curry, free pajamas, clean facilities, private shower rooms, a lounge area with a good sized library of Manga and magazines (Unfortunately we don't read japanese), and a 7-11 adjacent to the hotel with a door passing from the back of the hotel lobby directly into the back of the 7-11 so we could buy snacks/drinks/whatever. You don't even have to change out of PJ's and slippers to go to 7-11 since you never go outside. :) Gran Customa also had an internet cafe adjacent to the capsul hotel, maybe I'll visit that next time. For the price, with food included, this seemed like a great value for 1-2 people. Paying for 3 people gets close to where we could have rented a traditional hotel room instead, but we were there for the experience. If you just need a simple place to sleep for the night, and maybe a good sized helping of curry, I highly reccommend Gran Customa Ueno.

United KingdomI thought the hotel and the area were outstanding, best time I've had in Tokyo so far. However the experience was marred by machine noises at 4:30 am. This was probably from the washing machines that were near my capsule. I'd definitely go back there if I can get a capsule at the other end of the floor.

PhilippinesCapsule seems to be quite dated but is clean. I didn't noticed that the cleaning time is 10AM and they woke me up apologizing - which was my fault.
Near Ameyoko and Ueno Station. Ample number of coin laundry and dryer. Staff were cheerful. Vending machine onsite, and has direct access to a konbini.

I always avoided staying here because of having to check out early everyday, but I’m glad I stayed here because this will be one of my favorite places to stay while in Tokyo. The all-day free curry rice was a cool amenity. It’s good and hot curry too and you could technically have all of your meals here if you don’t mind curry everyday. The 7-11 connected to the building was also cool and you could get a drink or a 200 yen piece of chiki to plop onto your curry. There’s also some nice chairs you can just relax in. There are two private stall showers on the same floor as your bed if you don’t feel comfortable taking public showers in the spa. There are also washers and dryers available on the same floor. Beds were good enough. There’s a TV and mirror inside with power outlet. Aesthetically, the place looks a little outdated, like 90s, but it’s not a big deal. Located right in Ameya Market, so there’s plenty of activity.

JapanThe bathrooms and hot spring changing room were messy and dirty. Upper capsules can be difficult to climb in, and capsules are a bit cramped with little space available for personal items.
Third time in this hotel, but first time after the rename into Gran Custama. Some things did not change: the hot spring was great (with a sauna!), and the capsules were quiet. Locker size was perfect, and there is a baggage room to store large suitcases in the lobby. The 2nd floor is a great place: you can relax, get a free drink, and eat free curry with rice 24/7.

BrazilEven though the hotel was clean, I could not get over the moldy smell of the accommodations. Maybe it is because of Japan's humidity or the rainy climate, but I did not get the same smell in other hotels I stayed in the country. Rooms don´t have space for luggage, so you have to leave at the reception, where there is no comfort in opening and organizing.
Location right next to a few train stations. The reception and the onsen stay open after midnight.

AustraliaMay have been a communication issue but was told I couldn't store luggage once I'm checked out (only needed 2-3 hrs), be aware this might be the case if you are booking and would like this as an added service (which I've not found an issue at other accommodations).
Great location, easy to get to from Narita airport on express train and a short walk. Free rice curry all night, public bath and sauna is great for relaxing at end of day. The capsules were comfortable enough.

United StatesThere is a built-in TV in the capsule room, and I kept hitting my head on it when I entered (and I'm very short, so this may be tough for most people). It was probably one of the smallest capsule bed rooms I've stayed in (mostly because of that TV and maybe a lower ceiling).
I stayed in a capsule room with a twin bed (lower bunk). The hotel was clean, convenient, and had great value (they provide a lot for a very low price per night). There is free curry rice, and there is a floor with free manga that you can borrow (I didn't use this). The shower rooms and WCs were conveniently close to the bed areas. The powder room came with free toothbrushes, combs, etc. which was a nice plus. The locker in the locker room could fit small luggage or a backpack.
