Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalA bit of a walk from the train/metro stations but you do have a bus stop near by if that bus line suits you.
I guess I wanted the Capsule experience but this is not the place. It is just a bit poor according to Japanese expectations but would not say for you not to stay! Toilet and shower facilities are great and clean just does not deliver on the capsule idea, thats all.

United StatesIt was okay for one night, surprised that a premium room still has a curtain like door but not an actual door. You could hear everything and everyone around you. The bathroom could have been cleaner. And the front desk is not the friendliest.

NetherlandsThe communal room is not great and you will just be mostly in your pod/room so that is a bit of a shame, staff is friendly but not good in in English very friendly but it is hard to have any questions answered. When you are looking for a place in a less busy area it is perfect.

United StatesLiked: clean. Plenty of restrooms and showers (though some were on other floors-- 2 & 4). Capsule itself was pretty roomy and the small shelves were helpful, though it could get a little warm. The location is a little out of the way, but frequent buses kept us well connected to everything we wanted to see. Disliked: little to no soundproofing making sleep difficult even with offered earplugs. The biggest downside was the mattress as it was thin and often had us waking up with more pains than we went to bed with. I think if this hostel upgraded it's beds it would make it a great place to stay. Also, be aware of the 200 yen a night fee that you have to pay at check-in. It is a Kyoto city requirement, but is not mentioned on the booking.com site. Payment can be made in coins or with credit card, but bills cannot be broken at the front desk. Conclusion: a good option for a night or two, but can be hard on the body.

GermanySome guests were unfortunately annoying and didn’t follow the rules. They were using their phones, and for this reason, I couldn’t sleep on the first night. However, I reported this to the staff, and they immediately took note of the guests

BelgiumWe merely wanted to experience what it was like, so we hopped in for a quick shower and so around 1800 on a Friday. It was not busy yet, yet we had the impression everything was kept very clean! The double room is was approx. 220x280 and included a table and a chair. The curtain was lockable, but I don’t think this will stop loud noise. The showers were well equipped… (no need to bring your own shampoo!), sound proofed and very clean when we were there.

AustraliaIf you have larger bags/suitcases it might be a hassle pulling them up the stairs. There’s not much luggage space, but the staff will hold it for you if it’s too big and you want to keep it extra safe. There’s hostel rooms are probably a little dated, but it still has everything you need!
Great value for money. Toothbrush, razor and comb provided, alongside fresh towels and showering essentials. Bus stops within a 2/5 minute walk. Convenience stores the same. Spacious capsules. Staff were very sweet and accommodating!

United StatesThe shared bathroom space is limited. There’s only one shower per floor. This can be a bit of a hassle sometimes, but didn’t have any issues and it was very clean with great amenities (soap, toothpaste, brushes, etc.)
Very clean, and accessible. Easy to take public transport to any major tourist destinations. Free amenities (toothbrush, razor, soap, toothpaste, combs).

CanadaVery strict on rules. No early check in or outs, no usage of any of the facilities between 10am and 3pm. This has led me to believe that they only allow one night stays at a time, if you want to stay two nights in a row, you have to check out, store your bags at the front reception, and check back in at 3pm. They do this at other hostels in Japan also, but my first experience in all of my backpacking years. I also found it bizzare that when coming back to pick up my bags, I was not allowed to use the washroom right before I leave. Also the mattresses are like shikibuton but thinner, not comfortable at all.
Super clean facilities.

SingaporeThe double cabins were separated by partition walls which had gaps on top, which means every small bit of sound can be heard throughout the dorm. Lounge temperature was not well regulated and it was often too cold to sit and eat my meals leisurely. Location of hotel is a bit off. Supermarket, food options and bus stop for bus to train station is 10 min walk away. There is a bus stop a a couple of minutes away with buses that can take you to some sights though.
Very clean hotel. Booked the double cabin despite traveling solo and am glad that I paid extra for the space and not having to climb. Cabin comes with individually controlled air con. Sufficient toilet and shower cubicles. There is a lounge area where you can get hot n cold water and next to it is the laundry room. Staff were friendly and helpful.
