Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe host was so friendly and helpful. Kinosaki is a lovely place to visit with the onsen being the top attraction; but the host showed us how to make the most of it. The location is a bit away from the centre but the bus is easy enough to take. Highly recommended

United StatesYuko was an incredibly welcome host for the guesthouse. She communicates with you and asks for your needs before you arrive as far as transportation, food/water, and more. She makes sure you're comfortable and the environment is set up very well for meeting new travelers as well.Out of all of the, guesthouses/hostels I've stayed in for Japan, this one felt the most like home.

United StatesKinosaki Hideya was so cute and comfortable! This is a local family's home that also functions as a hostel / guesthouse. It was right on the beach and accessible to the main downtown of Kinosaki by car, bus or bike. I rented a bike from the hostel and used it for two days - only 15 minutes to downtown. The owner, Yuko, is also super accommodating and happily drove me when requested. This is truly and authentic experience for those who want a glimpse into local life outside the curated (and generic) ryokan experience. I will say I had a private tatami room and it was very, very nice and comfortable!! Yuko is also a great cook! She serves a full Japanese breakfast a la carte if requested, and other favorites like curry and udon for lunch or dinner!

I really enjoyed and felt comfortable during my stay here. I think this was one of the highlights during my trip to japan. I met some very kind people who I am still in contact with and had a very relaxing and nice stay. I really enjoyed riding around on the bike in this area. The owner of this place was very kind and helpful and even drove me to the train station. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!

JapanThe location is pretty limiting, they offer to pick you up and take you back to Kinosaki, for ¥500 per person so you should take that into account. Other than that there is a once a day bus, and an infrequent bus from a stop 20 minutes walk across the river.
For this price you will struggle to find anywhere near to Kinosaki, and for the twin room it was a steal. Also the host was very nice and accommodating.

TaiwanAlthough it takes a bit more effort to get there, I really love the atmosphere of this place. I didn't meet the host the first night and felt a bit cold, but I didn't mention it. To my surprise, the second night I found a hot water bottle in my bed before I went to sleep! The last bus from Kinosaki Onsen leaves a little after 5pm, so if you want to stay in Kinosaki Onsen until the evening, cycling is a good option. The bicycle was really great to ride! Genbudo Cave is also worth visiting; I cycled there after soaking in the onsen. Thanks for all the help from the host!

GermanyThe location is a bit far away from the town without a car, but the bus is driving a few times a day (15 min) and the owner of the guesthouse offers to drive/ pick up for a small fee. For this price the compromise is absolutely worth it.
It was a really nice and cute guesthouse with incredible friendly and warm people! Big recommendation!

United StatesYuka-chan is the best. She is totally Japanese in terms of friendliness, kindness, and hospitality but she is also atypical Japanese. She is full of energy, jokes, and very open-minded. If you meet her, you will find this out. The guesthouse location is 20 minute bicycle ride from the Kinosaki onsen so consider this if you wish to stay at her guesthouse. But if you do, the guesthouse is in a beautiful location near the sea and river. If you go in the summer, you can surf in the sea or kayak in the river. Both at walking distance. In the summer, I hear they occasionally have BBQ. Bike rental is 150 yen and the ride to the onsen is pleasant. Yuka-chan will help you out with recommendations of what to do and where to eat.

ItalyThe place is a bit far from the centre, but it’s absolutely not a problem! You can easily work a schedule around the bus, or ask Yuko-san for a ride into town!
Yuko-san did an absolutely amazing work with the place! The vibe is really welcoming and the rooms are super comfortable. Yuko-san’s cooking is also amazing :)

GermanyStaying here was the highlight of our Japan trip, the city of Kinosakionsen is really charming and the Natur around it really worth a visit. Yuku is the best host! From picking us up at the at the train station to renting us some Bikes (to get into town) to driving us back to the station at 06:40 in the morning, we’re really thankful for her. The stay itself was comfortable and clean, it really was like staying at a friends place, the atmosphere was really relaxed and casual. If we ever come back we‘ll stay here again! Thank you again Yuku!

United KingdomAbsolutely loved our stay here. The accommodation is super cosy and felt like home! You are able to use all of the facilities such as laundry and bike rental etc for a low price and also able to use the big kitchen. The location is about a 15 minute bike ride from Kinosaki town / 5 minute drive but the location is right next to a beach and some places to hikes and it was lovely to cycle around so it wasn’t a problem for us. Yuke could not do enough for us and welcomed us with a map of Kinosaki and all the recommendations and also gave us lifts when needed.

Super cute and cosy home, I love that we can hang out in the common area downstairs. It was nice to be away from the centre of the town and easy enough to get there with the local bus, renting the bikes, or a lift with Yuko. Beds were comfy and room was cosy and warm. Yuko is so lovely and fun to talk with! Her recommendations for where to eat in town where great too. Breakfast was delicious! We'd love to go back :)

United KingdomThe location is quite a way out of Kinosaki-Onsen and the buses aren't great. However you can arrange lifts with Yuko and, of course, rent bikes from her.
Cozy and Cheap it certainly is. It's a large and relaxed guest house that we felt very comfortable in. Yuko, the owner, was so friendly and helpful. Having bikes available was a big bonus.

CanadaThere was a strong stench coming from the upstairs washroom around the urinal. Since there were no curtains for the windows, we woke up much earlier than our alarms due to the brightness of our private room.
Countryside accommodation which had comfortable beds, air conditioning and bidet toilets. We walked to the beach area with our preschooler to enjoy the tide and saw a deer on our first evening. Yuko-san (owner) was very nice and helpful in picking us up from the train station and Kinosaki Onsen town. She felt like a friend you could stay with. She prepped and cooked for us daily Japanese-style breakfasts during our 2-night stay. Her cat was fun to interact with and hear running around.
