Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt's a great place to stay. The staff were so helpful and friendly. They gave us a lift to the bus station, booked dinner for us in an excellent local restaurant, and even lent us umbrellas. Super clean and comfortable rooms.

United StatesA luggage holder in the room would be much nicer, rather than having to put our case on the floor. I would like to suggest a mattress topper as the mattress was quite hard and my back didn't like that. Please provide the correct number if calling from overseas. We tried multiple combinations with the japan code (and we have overseas plan) when we were struggling with the key lock.
The place was great, good location, easy enough to find, the room was modern, spacious, clean, warm and having a cake gift was a nice touch thanks. Communicating via email was nicely done, easy to book or ask questions.

SwitzerlandI didn’t dislike anything, but as a solo traveler it would’ve been nicer to be at a property that had staff on site.
The room was very clean, comfortable and had everything I needed. It was very convenient for Shirakawa-go sights and supplies were restocked during my stay.

PhilippinesThe location is 20-min walk away from the bus. You should be able to book a free service from the owner ahead of time if you are carrying heavy bags.
I love the cleanliness and the spacious room. It also comes with essentials (i.e. toiletries and towels)

AustraliaWhile we very much enjoyed our stay, there were inconsiderate guests upstairs that moved between 2 rooms for the majority of the evening (from 7pm until 10:30pm) making alot of noise with their suitcases. They also woke us up at 5am when they left.
Great location to Shirakawa Village and restaurants nearby. Room was spacious, warm and cozy. We enjoyed the convenience of parking out the front and using codes to access building and room instead of holding onto cards/keys

Hong KongIt probably has nothing to do with the location but none of the restaurants in the area are open after 5pm. We had to drive 20km to get a proper meal.
The hotel is relatively new, it even smells like fresh wood, like it's been newly renovated. The room is quiet, rather spacious, and quite clean.

MalaysiaWe did not realise the hotel was a 15 minute walk (in the snow) as the local bus did not operate due to the weather conditions. We made the mistake of not arranging for pick up from the bus station prior to arrival.
The hotel was comfortable and the added pajamas was a nice touch. The drop-off service to the station was great but has to be arranged prior to leaving (usually before 9am). Overall it was a great stay. Please take note that only one restaurant (Tenkara, a 5 minute walk from the hotel) is opened for dinner. The village of Shirakawa-go remains its peace and tranquillity once the last bus leaves in the evening making it such a magical place to visit.

I felt I was very lucky to be able to book a room here for the illumination event on Jan. 19, 2025. The room is modern and well-equipped, it meets all our needs as city dwellers who explore this village for the first time. This hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the Shirakawago Bus Terminal, but we didn't feel it's a long walk given all the beautiful snow and village scenes alongside the paths. The staff were nice and friendly, and they did help us a lot on our specific needs: we arrived in the morning of the illumination day, and we were allowed to hand our big suit cases to a member of staff. When we were back in the hotel for the tickets of the illumination event, our suit cases were already in our room. This saved us quite some efforts to store our suit cases at the Shirakawago Bus Terminal. After the event was over, I asked the member of staff who would drive us back to the hotel about a restaurant nearby for our dinner. He told us that restaurant opened until 9 PM that day and drove us directly there, which saved us efforts and left us more time to enjoy the wonderful Hida Beef. I appreciate all the kindly help from everyone in this hotel, and I will stay here again when I visit Shirakawago next time.

SingaporePrice is not cheap but given that it's during the Shirakawago winter light up, the markup was understandable. Only complaint is that it's a little isolated and the only dining place in that area was about 200m away when we returned from the light up. However, our driver graciously offered to send us to the restaurant.
Room has all we need but is more functional than luxurious. We liked the firm bed and the fact that the place was well maintained.
