Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThis funky boutique hotel is a great find. Right opposite the Gora train station makes it the ideal spot for exploring the Hakone area and using the Hakone Free Pass. I had a dinner and breakfast included and both were exceptional. The onsen is clean and large and well maintained. Being right opposite the Gora train station means you can be the first one up the mountain to the ropeway in the morning and beat the crowds of day trippers. The Gora Park Gardens are also worth visiting and the Hakone Open Air Museum is only one stop away on the train. The room was spacious, modern and had a fridge, kettle , hairdryer, slippers, PJs, and amenities like toothbrush etc. I highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in Hakone. It had a great feel about it and I couldn't fault it.

CanadaRecommend to stay away from ordering “butterfly squid with potatoes” for dinner. It is not very appealing as it sits in a sizzling hot cast iron pan in 1/2 inch of oil. It would be best ordered with a big salad as the meal itself was not filling.
The room was spacious and well laid out. They offered kimonos and slippers for everyone. The onsen was a real treat. A delicious breakfast was included in our room rate. As for dinner, we ordered “A là carte”. Food was well presented and good quality. It was easier to eat in the hotel than going out to find a restaurant as the March weather was a bit cold. Hotel was a 5 minute walk to the Gora station where the tram was located to take you up the mountain to the ropeway (gondola) to see Mt. Fuji.

United KingdomBeautifully situated. Views from the balcony were stunning. Room was larger than expected. Onsen was lovely and perfect location for the cable car and tozan train. We loved the little touches like the cold mini soda for after the Onsen.

MalaysiaDespite being close to Gora station, getting here to and from elsewhere in Japan is not exactly the most convenient, multiple transfers might be necessary even from Odawara. Reception is not always manned, especially in daytime, so might have to wait / call them using the phone provided.
The room is spacious and clean, and beds quite comfortable. Interior design of the property is rather tastefully done. Property is a 1-min walk away to Gora train and cable car station, and within a 12-min walking distance to the open air museum and a Lawson convenience mart. Staff members are friendly and helpful.

AustraliaThe only negative was that we booked dinner with the hotel in advance only to find out that the restaurant was closed both nights we were there and it was really difficult to find places to eat nearby.
Overall we were very happy with our stay at Emblem Flow. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and the onsen was great. It's a great location next to Gora station and makes a convenient base for the hakone loop and other sights in the area.

AustraliaReception staff felt a bit standoffish but were very helpful.
Rooms and beds were very comfy, lots of space for suitcases. Also surprisingly quiet - did not hear any noise from neighbouring rooms or from outside despite being right next to the Gora train/cable car station.

AustraliaOur beds were a bit hard but think it was because it was on the floor. We will definitely choose a different style next time .
The food was delicious, staff very helpful and locations perfect. You are basically next to the station and ropeway . We had a wonderful time . Not sure why it’s only a 2 star ⭐️

AustraliaI was busy enjoying my stay in Japan elsewhere before arriving here. I was sent a form to filled-in a few days prior to my stay. It is great they would like to ensure customers are satisfied with their stay by seeking information regarding the type of stay though.
Breakfast was amazing for the two night stay. Freshly made, plus buffet. there is even fries available in the buffet, which i liked. Just be aware there is an Onsen tax. Fresh daily towels need to be requested. Staff can understand, speak and explain in English. I got lost finding the accommodation from the train station - need to go down steps - to go through an underpass - then up steps again.

Hong KongStaff can speak English but there was a bit of confusion regarding the ticket for dinner. The price includes the ticket for dinner but you will need to pay extra for ordering set. There was a bit of misunderstanding because the staff said チッケト when referring to ticket and we didn’t understand at first.
Very close to Gora station. Less than one minute walk. The food was great. Very comfortable beds. We were lucky that there was no one when we went to the onsen baths. Microwave is available in the public area.

JapanSometimes the front desk was empty, so I had to wait for the officer to come.
I like how close the hotel is to Gora Station. I stayed in a mixed dormitory room. The room was nice, and the bed was comfortable. The toilet and shower room were comfortable as well. The breakfasts were amazing! I really liked it!
