Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsThe house itself is beautiful—if you appreciate traditional Japanese architecture, this is a must-see. It has an incredible location, with a view of Mt. Fuji right from the entrance. Although the owner speaks only a little English, he was extremely helpful, and we used Google Translate whenever necessary. He kindly recommended local spots for dining, sightseeing, and activities. Throughout our stay, he brought us tea multiple times and even served us breakfast each morning. While the bedding is on the floor in traditional Japanese style, it was actually more comfortable than the beds at the hotels I stayed at in Osaka and Kyoto. Overall, this was an amazing experience, and I would definitely recommend it!

LithuaniaThe staff does not speak English but tries to compensate with Google Translate. While it helps with basic needs, I expect some friendly chats and small talk with the owners. You know, ask simple questions, get some recommendations, opinions, etc. This is not the case, unfortunately.
Firstly, I'd like to say that this was a last-minute reservation I made in Fujiyoshida. Due to logistic challenges, I had to cancel a much better one. As for the things I've liked, in general, the Ryokan has a good location - a bit noisy, but good enough for walking and riding around - buses, trains, taxis. It is in the walkable distance from Mt. Fuji station. The staff is helpful and proactively offers treats and help - thank you. Lots of restaurants and good onsen nearby.

GermanyThe single shower (bath room) is shared and can only be used in the afternoon, but sharing worked without any problems. Rooms can get a bit cold, but there is an extra heater close to the bed and under the little table!
Extremely friendly personal, very nice, traditional room, well decorated. The house has a nice garden and looks like a traditional japanese villa. Distance to Mt. Fuji station and Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine are both about 20-25min by foot.

The hosts were lovely and welcoming, the place is immaculately clean. If you're on the taller side be aware that the futon will be a bit short so ask for an extra one. Rooms will be colder in winter make sure you prepare to be warm.

JapanAs the big onsen of the town is open until 11pm, it would be better if door was closed only at 11:30pm rather than at 10:30pm. Not a huge issue of course.
The host couple were amazingly friendly, the house is beautiful, the room was very comfy and very close to the center of the town.

GermanyThe shower room is very old and you are limited to evening showers. But this is a very minor downside.
The older couple who hosted us are lovely and care taking beyond believe. Such a nice couple. You can feel the joy they have to provide foreigners a unique Japanese experience. I would give them 15/10 points if possible. The accommodation itself is traditional, clean and very spacious. I highly recommend staying there for one night or two. You get a once in a lifetime experience.

Overall, host was very nice and warm, he provided green tea and fruits for us. Although he couldn't speak in English, we were still able to communicate through Google translate. It was a great place to experience local life. There were quite a lot of restaurants nearby, but the location of the place was quite far from the station if you walk. It took about half an hour walk.

United KingdomThe shower times and a curfew. A traditional house so respected that.
The house is in a good location and is a beautiful property. It has been looked after well and the family are lovely. The booking system for the shower was a little tedious. You are only able to use it from 3pm-9:30pm. I would say if you are looking for a house share experience then go for it but if you want your own bathroom and can come and go as you please (they have a 10pm curfew) then go with a hotel.

AustraliaThe property was lovely but we didn’t realise it was a home not a typical guest house. It was a bit hard to find because it is just a house with no signage and was all dark when we arrived in the early evening. There is only one shared toilet and a shared shower which is mostly used by the hosts. I think the host tried to encourage us to use the onsen across the road instead (my Japanese wasn’t good enough to understand).
I loved the home-stay, traditional Japanese vibe of this stay. It was a good location close to Fuji-Q Highland and heaps of restaurants. The host was so lovely and brought us tea and snacks, and tried her absolute best to communicate with us even though she speaks no English and we speak extremely basic Japanese. The house was beautiful, room was lovely, the futon beds were comfy and there was a heater/aircon (Dyson).
