Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanThe location is not too convenient for backpackers, there are bus stops around but the bus schedule is not very frequent and everything close early.
Manager and staff are very friendly and helpful. Great experience of traditional Japanese futons and public bath. Very spacious room - one bedroom and one living room - can see Mt. Fuji from the window in the room.

FranceIt wasn’t the case at my previous stay, but this time the futons were kind of thin, so it was not really confortable to sleep.
I already stayed at this hotel one time, that’s why I chose it again. The personel is nice and helpful. They came to the station to take us to the hotel by car, which was appreciable for my parents and me with our luggages. They provide bike renting so we could enjoy the kawaguchi lake.

United StatesThis place is an absolute shame to call I itself a ryokan. There’s no real service to speak of, just a basic check-in. The room, while offering a nice view, is extremely minimalistic—almost empty—with thin walls that let you hear every word from your neighbors. The lighting is old and barely working, making the already cold room feel even more unwelcoming. The onsen was the biggest disappointment—messy, moldy, and just as cold as the room. Nothing about the building resembles a traditional ryokan; it feels more like a cheap pension house with none of the charm or hospitality you’d expect. If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese inn experience, look elsewhere.
The view as good as promised.

AustraliaSo worth paying the extra for the view of Fuji. Waking up in the morning was so cool! Sleeping on the floor is a bit hard for some, I wasn’t overly comfortable however it was just a part of the experience !

NetherlandsWe were a bit surprised that the shower is a traditional shared shower room without privacy. It was not a problem for us, but it might be nice for guests to know that shared bathroom also means there are no individual stalls.

JapanThe place requires a lot of maintenance. The room was big and could be comfortable, but the Japanese paper windows were ripped and stained with watermarks, the tatami had gaps full of dust, and the walls were badly painted. The futon and blanket provided were clean but thin. If it weren’t for the AC, we would have frozen. Although the toilet room looked like it was recently renovated, it was not clean, and the sink was the worst. The building we stayed in was cold, smelly, and the shoe rack was full of dust. Additionally, the public bath was located in a different building, so we had to go outside in pajamas and a coat to get from our room to the bathroom—which was also not as clean as it should have been.
The only good thing was the nice guy at the reception desk who picked us up at the station by car. He was polite and helpful. Apart from that, I had a bad experience.

SpainNot a deal breaker, but rather a suggestion, some towel hangers in the toilet in the room would be nice, for handtowels.
Very close to lake Kawaguchi, there's also a couple of shrines as a temple 11 minutes away. The breakfast they serve is delicious. I do recommend this to people who want to try sleeping on a futon and try a ryokan.

United KingdomRooms were not clean. Our floor had a huge section of mould. There was no fridge in our room, but there was one in our other family's room. The bathroom was not clean. Even though there was technically a view of Mount Fuji, it was just the tip, as there was a house blocking the way. There was no lift, so we had to go to the 3rd floor, struggling with our baby, the cot and the luggage up the stairs.
Large room, and it did have a view of Mount Fuji. There was parking available too.

United KingdomThe room was dirty , the corridors were dirty , spiders everywhere and the windows blind were broken. It was a bit disappointing seeing the status of the room. The showers were in a separate building which wasn't easy considering it was raining. Overall it felt the place needs some improvement and cleaning to make you feel more comfortable
The location is convenient and near the lake. The room is traditional Japanese and they provide yukatas
