We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaWould recommend highly as a temple stay but guests need to be aware it’s shared onsen (separated into male and female) bathing facilities only, no showers available.
It was a true temple stay and quite traditional so a great experience to remember. The rooms were quite spacious and comfortable including cushions and low table to sit at as well as comfy lounge chairs and coffee table for sitting options. When we went to dinner the monks came in and prepared the futons for the night and when we went to breakfast they came in and packed up bedding to return room to day configuration. The meals were beautiful vegetarian cuisine, nutritious and beautifully presented in private dining rooms, both dinner and breakfast. We went to the early morning prayer ceremony which was a lovely experience. Just 6 or 7 couples where we listened to chanting and the monks prayed for the wellbeing of the world.

IsraelThe place is very impressive and it's a unique experience. The staff is very kind and attentive, the place itself is also very beautiful and kept well. The location is also great usually as there's a bus stop right at it (was in repairs when we came though, but still not far from the next stop as well). The food in the morning and dinner were really great in our opinion, and we got the room for ourselves only for eating which was very nice and fun. The rooms for sleeping are also superb, very comfortable and great. The onsen was also very nice :)

United StatesThe pillows were very hard and there was no private toilet in the room.
The temple lodging was impeccably clean and the rooms were spacious. The monks were very accommodating and helpful. The vegetarian breakfast and dinner were very good and we loved having our own separate dining room to eat. The onsen was very nice and relaxing. The Buddhistbservice at 6:00 am was interesting.

United KingdomIt was a bit expensive for what it was, but makes sense when you think it’s a functioning temple and not a commercial hotel.
Lovely room with a view of the garden, it was a fabulous experience, the food was delicious.

BelgiumStaying in a temple was a great experience. The temple was gorgeous, the monks were welcoming, the food was delicious, and the room was big and comfortable. We were invated to participate in the morning ceromony. I appreciated that they provided explanations afterwards so that we could fully enjoyed it.

AustraliaIt would be impossible, as a tourist, to have a true monastery experience in an overnight stay, but the beautiful monastery and lovely monks gave us an inkling of what being a monk means. Sleeping and eating on the floor is less comfortable but essential for that experience. Beautiful monastery within walking distance of temples and Okunoin cemetery. Well worth staying overnight to appreciate Koyasan more fully.

AustraliaNothing. It was all good.
A fascinating experience. The rules and strict timetable were surprisingly comforting. The food was lovely and the morning ceremony was quite mesmerising. Watching snow fall over the garden from our room was a bonus. Highly recommend a garden view room.

New Zealandthe mattress- the worst we have had! We appreciate this is a monastery and its frugal living, but this was not budget accomodation. We did stay in quite a few traditional Japanese lodges, and the futons generally were quite comfortable. This isn't a 'dont like', but the village has just two cafe/bar/restaraunts open after 7 so dont expect any 'night life' in Koyasan.
Both meals ( breakfast and dinner) were vegetarian, adequate and beautifully presented. We were the only guests, so had a most peaceful few days. The new onson was just superb thanks- no expense spared here. We were quite centrally locates, bus at the entry. The opportunity to join the monks in morning devotions was most appreciated on the first morning.

GermanyMy stay at this hotel in Koyasan, managed by monks, was an unforgettable experience. The monks' hospitality and guidance throughout our stay were exceptional. The private dining in a traditional Japanese setting was exquisite, and the onsen was a relaxing highlight. Participating in the morning prayer provided a unique spiritual connection. The monks' parting gift added a personal touch to our departure. If you seek a remarkable and culturally rich stay in Koyasan, I highly recommend this hotel.

Czech RepublicMaybe just the curfew at 21:00, although it is understandable.
Amazing place to stay. The morning prayer was definitely a highlight. Loved all of it. The temple is beautiful, with amazing gardens. The room was also very nice, spacious and well equipped. Staff was very kind. Dinner was served in a private dining room, the food was very nice (but if you cant eat Japanese food definitely bring something to eat as you cant buy anything at the temple). The onsen was modern and clean, men and women are separated. Thank you very much, would definitely recommend!

SingaporeNothing that I don't like. Happy with everything. It was pleasant stay
Very flexible to accommodate requests. Room very spacious n comfortable. Kind of them upgrade us to garden view room with no extra charge and make my long hours travel day. My mum very enjoys the meals(dinner n bfast). Lastly, I truly enjoy it to keep the temple no too commercial. I stay in another temple less than 6months ago, very commercial. Too business oriented. Please Ryusenin continue to classic culture, do not turn it too commercial. Thank you.

CanadaI was a bit uncomfortable not having locks on our door.
It was our first time staying in a temple and it was truly an experience. The temple itself was like a maze, there were so many turns we had to do before reaching our room haha but we got the hang of it quickly. The halfboard they offered was phenomenal, the best vegetarian food we have ever had! The 6am ceremony was very interesting to watch and see in person where it really shows the dedication the monks have. Location wise, it was near the bus stop and was around a 25 minute walk to the cemetery which was one of the main reasons why we wanted to go to Koyasan.
